Fictional Races

Postby Aeltar » Wed Aug 29, 2007 12:23 am UTC

If you were able to be any species in fiction or reality, what would you be? This includes everything from Tolkien's Elves to real-life mice. Your choice.

Personally, I would be an Andalite. If you don't know what they are, read the Animorphs series by K.A. Applegate. I would be one because they have incredible physical and technological prowess, and are just cool.

Yeerk? Slimy bastard. Invading minds, enslaving entire races (Hork-Bajir comes to mind) and decimating civilizations? All they're good for is Tail-Blade target practice.

Yeerks. A race that sucks so much they needed an entire, *other* race just so they could have things like *thumbs* and *eyes*.

And then they had to steal all of their technology.

Just so that they could be continuously outsmarted and out-fought by a handful of high schoolers, an andalite cadet, and a pacifist aibo on steroids.

Masters of being bad at everything.

Myself? I'd be torn between Panserbjorne or Corax.

I don't quite recall the name of the race, but it'd have to be the race that the Ellimist arose from.

They lived on freaking floating CRYSTALS. That's ridiculously awesome.

EDIT: The Keltrans!

That's all.

Not really. Iorek was smart, and Iofur was dumb, but in the way power hungry kings among humans tend to be stupid. Mostly in the "overconfident and insecure" kind of way.

An Elder God. Say, something similar to Yog-Sothoth. (No, not quite like his sons in The Dunwich Horror)

Alternatively, being one of the Xeelee might be interesting. Especially if I get their technology.
Why do you assume that I exist?

Now that I think about it Yeerks are almost identical to Goa-uld... huh,,
yeah...

Anywho, a Protoss Dark Templar would be pretty cool. I WOULD be an Archon, but then I'd have to share my soul with some other guy... not enthusiastic about that...

Or a Zerg Cerebrate, that'd be pretty cool.

Maybe a Kree or a Super-Skrull.

But Not, repeat NOT, a Shi-Ar...

In no particular order, maybe:

Chirpsithra (Larry Niven, The Draco Tavern)

Gand (Star Wars)

Cylon (Battlestar Galactica, new series)

Oankali (Octavia Butler, Xenogenesis)

definitely predator.

Cool tech, and a total badass. That and I even find the culture somewhat appealing.

That, or the Xenofungus of Alpha Centauri... it'd be cool to be immortal.

A gargoyle. A la the Disney sort. Though the turning to stone thing would suck. Even so...

Alternately, a DnD style dragon, specifically an Eberronian kind.

Possibly a crystal dragon too, so I can be down with the whole psionics thing.

A unicorn person from the Acorna series. (Mostly just cause then I could run really really fast, it always seemed fun to be able to be built to run effortlessly).

Or a Gungan, just cause they have an interesting society and technology, or something small and draconic (but not a treasure hording aloof jerkface), or something from Dromaesaur or Troodon family...

Time lord? Hmm... Nah, too depressing.

Are Princes of Amber a race? Because Random was pretty damn cool. I totally ripped most of his character off for some old chat-based RP many years ago.

I know there are better ones, I just can't think of them right now.

I'm kinda a Corwin fan myself.

And oh MAN. I can't BELIEVE I forgot Elans.

Elans are humans who undergo a process that basically reboots them. Their memories of their previous life become more distant, like... you know what happened in your last life, but it's like it happened to someone else. In exchange, you will never age, gain the potential for unusual psychic powers... you get the ability to shrug off small amounts of damage instantly, to boost your resistance to disease, boost your reflexes, and boost your willpower, and you can forgo food and water for a day by just expending a little bit of your mental energy (you can't do much at first, but training your powers increases the amount you can do this)

And you will never ever age. Furthermore, you can still die... so when the world ends, you'll know peace like anyone else (no floating in space forever like some forms of immortality).

Granted, you lose your humanity in the process (in DnD terms, you have more in common with Cthulhu on the inside than most other human beings) but damn, I'd trade my humanity in a heartbeat for that.

Damn, I forgot about Elans, too.

I once worked up a timeline, stretching into the far future, about how Elans, little by little, turned themselves into illithids, took over the universe, and then travelled back to prehistory to create themselves.

I think I want to change my vote.

... that's... really strange, becuase I wrote a similar story, only... backwards. In which a race evolved that was rather similar to Elans, but when they went back in time to escape the apocalypse, they had to go through the Far Realm (since the Far Realm is outside of time), and in doing so became twisted into the Illithids and forgot their true origins.

So yes. Elans = hardcore. And they're about forty billion times cooler than elves, who for some reason I despise. I just cannot stand elves, and I don't know why. Probably elf fanboys...

That...is an interesting thought. I never put the transformation up to the travel itself.

I mostly set it up so that they kept adding more and more psionic ability to their base makeup, until it become too demanding on their brains and their neurons started to burn out. So they started incorporating cephalopod material into their bodies to take advantage of the nonlocalized nervous systems.

And then when that wasn't enough, resorted to neural parasitism to feed their growing lust for innate psionic power.

I'm feeling like I have to go with Planeswalker. I mean, think about it. I could replace my eyes with freaking gemstones. Plus, the whole "can't die of natural causes, or being stabbed, or even dismembered".

Sweet.

Also, major kudos for making me remember Animorphs.

"YOU'RE NOT A DAMN ELAN!"

However... being a High Alector from Modesitt's Corean Chronicles would be pretty awesome too. Not Highest, since shadowmatching sucks, but a reasonably powerful Alector chilling in that research city Asulet runs whose name I can never remember.

I've had friends who claimed to be elves and things! But that was different... mainly because they were serious. I honestly don't know why I was friends with them. Most of them are on medication now.

For those of you that don't know, otherkin make TERRIBLE friends.

On a side note: I think it would be cool to be one of the more powerful Free Magic beings from Abhorsen trilogy.

Protoss, Shakuras exile. Controlling the void is so much cooler than the Khala. Plus they've hinted at more abilities being open to dark templar, and they can archon meld as well. Being an archon would be pretty cool. I mean, you (and a friend) become an energy being who rapes things with the power of its mind.

Hell, protoss are just cool in general.
