The trollest of mod madnesses one of these years is to not have mod madness at all.

[edit] Which is not the case this year...

Word filters can be enacted at other times than Mod Madness.
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.

But not that instance, of course. That wasn't a word filter. That was the clacks.

It is written in ancient texts that Mod Madness was an annual celebration of pagan Mods. It is said the ancient peoples praised their moderators with activities that included yodeling, angry ranting, gnashing of teeth, breakdancing, and moonwalking. These celebrations were later co-opted (and many activities distorted and/or completely removed) by the Roman Catholic Church into what is now known as Easter. Later still, capitalism co-opted the holiday for massive consumption of forum posts.

So -that's- why they ship hazardous materials like Liquefied Godwin and TV Tropes across the nation, industrial forum post production. I'd been wondering about that.
We're in the traffic-chopper over the XKCD boards where there's been a thread-derailment. A Liquified Godwin spill has evacuated threads in a fourty-post radius of the accident, Lolcats and TVTropes have broken free of their containers. It is believed that the Point has perished.

Now to check the forum for growing weirdness!

I'm not sure how you get a post count of 3765 by lurking, but to get a full appreciation of the phenomenon that is Modness you really have to participate. Only by trying to post coherent prose can you tell quite what you're up against.

I don't think I'll ever manage to have as much fun with a madness as I did the first time I was let loose on filters.

That was a bloody amount of work, but oh so worth it.

Angua, your effort with the filters was spectacular (I might be a little biased though, because it came with a dose of learning about languages which is a surefire way to make me love anything.)

The begending is just the endginning repeating.

gmal, you did "ye olde Ænglisc" filters, didn't you? Those were also top tier.

Yeah, I did one year regularizing all verbs, the next year was Old(ish) English, and then Angua was responsible for the pinnacle of total-language-change filters, so we've basically retired that now.

I mean we've retired the total-language-change thing.

Obviously there'll be wordfilters as usual.

Four Madnesses are older than your forum account, so I feel like you haven't earned the "old man yells at cloud" connotation "curmudgeonly" usually has.

Like most of life it'll happen when it happens. If it starts early, it ends early, if it starts later, it ends later. I'm happy to savor the madness and memories of madness in the announcement thread until the tankers of alcohol arrive at the Mod's residences and the alcohol-poisoning fueled hallucinatory dementia begins.
We're in the traffic-chopper over the XKCD boards where there's been a thread-derailment. A Liquified Godwin spill has evacuated threads in a fourty-post radius of the accident, Lolcats and TVTropes have broken free of their containers. It is believed that the Point has perished.
