If I had to turn for someone..

Postby monks23 » Wed Sep 05, 2007 7:58 am UTC

A friend and I were in deep, deep discussion about whome we would turn for the other day, and I concluded that my choice would be the creator of xkcd.

Note; I am infact a girl, so technically there would be no real turning happening. Unless I turned over in bed to find said creator there 8)

Uh... welcome? It certainly doesn't look like spam, no links or anything...

On that note, let me give you a piece of advice. Could you please post in the Introduction Thread at the top of the General sub-forums? It would be nice, so we know you aren't a hit-and run, or a spammer, or some other sort.

Also, I have no idea what you just said. None whatsoever, although I'm lead to believe that:

a. I (monks23) would want to be xkcd for a day.
b. I would want xkcd to hang with me for a day.
c. I want to make xkcd like me for a day. (I know for a fact that he loves all the little raptors, because the comics tell me soOOOOOOOOOO!!!)
d. I want to bear xkcd's children, or at least engage in said (insert taboo activity here).

Its not spam, its just a random burst of xkcd appreciation.

Random, I'll agree. Borderline stalkerish, perhaps.

And in answer to your question, a, d and e. Definately e.

Don't worry about it, it's just the time when spammers roam and mods are generally offline. There might be one or two up, but perusing a sub-forum can easily take up a good amount of time, and patrolling all of the forums for spam can take hours. Once kept a record of how long it took for spam to be deleted from General, pretty much from the time I started on the forums to the time I went to sleep there was a couple of threads not deleted.

Of course, I start late (for Eastern Seaboard Time) so the mods are mostly sleeping, and some of the Oz/NZ mods aren't as active as they were...

Forgive me if my question seems somewhat ignorant, but what exactly does the phrase "to turn for someone" mean?
:)

You are carrying:
- a slightly paranoid Android
- two left feet (not my own)
- a still unfed and very hungry hippo
- broadsword of +5 ridiculousness stained with the blood of the undead souls
- a stetson Resistol, cuz stetson Resistols are cool.

No No, fair enough question.

Well, "to turn for someone" would be to say "I would change my current hetersexual tendencies, towards a more homosexual tendencies for BLAH person"

As I pointed out, I would'nt exactly be changing my tendencies, but it seemed like a logical thread name because that's where the conversation originally began, whether we would turn for Keira Knightley (no. never in her wildest dreams) or Kristin Kreuk (no doubt about it. Louis Lane, thats practically superwoman right there.)

Wait... if a bisexual turns, is there anything different at all?

Mmmm, in that case I'd turn for every pretty boy and girl!

Well I guess literally it would mean that I'd go for everything that was NOT an attractive man or woman. Which is a sickening thought to say the least.

But okay, since I'm a guy, let's say David Bowie.

How can you make that decision when you haven't met the person. If I was ever going to consider becoming a homosexual, it would need to be for someone I knew very well and likely for a long time.

I understand being open to the possibility, but I think if you are willing to say you would turn without first even meeting the person I think there might be a deeper issue.

In the same way that I know how many kids I could beat up before they overpowered me without actually doing it.

I agree it is a fun thing to joke about. But it didn't seem like OP was joking around.

Not to say that is a bad thing or anything, just kind of confusing.

I should think she was joking around, especially since her conclusion was actually a guy, so she'd be in a heterosexual relationship requiring no turning at all.

But yes. Neil Gaiman. I don't KNOW why. It's not fangirlism, because there are plenty of writers I like just as much, if not more, than he, so I can only assume it's because he has a je ne sais qua about him.

Mine is just because I really like the guy, and he is quite handsome in his black-clothed gothy way.

Also then I would get to hang around with Tori Amos and that would be so cool.

Why are we not discussing for whom we would willingly become vampires? This thread is made of lost opportunity.

I really love that "it" was an option here.

Um, also, I would turn for no one. To stay on topic and whatnot. There just isn't a lady that appeals to me enough to turn away from the male gender and favour the female gender. Or even just this one lady.

I would seriously consider turning for Jea (Dj Sharpnel). But i may not do it. I'm still thinking about it. Otherwise, i think that's all.

Oh and if Bladecham was guy I'd consider it too. But she's not so no problem there.

I don't know. I guess there is a possibility of me one day meeting the lady of my dreams and turning for her, but I can't think of anyone after scouring my brain for a minute or two. I'm not saying it'll never ever in my whole life happen, but I just don't see it happening.

When I was a kid I always thought it was pronounced like Louis. Ah, youth.

Lois is pronounced 'Low-is' and Louis is 'Loo-ee' with French pronunciation; I really don't know why Louis is pronounced 'Loo-is' by Americans.

Also, I find it kinda laughable that people talk about 'turning' when, really, if you only find one or two people of a gender who are not your usual preference, it's just that they're special, not that you're suddenly gay or bi. You can be straight/gay and still find the occasional anomaly in your attraction. I mean, if it seems like a lot of men/women catch you fancy but you prefer women/men for actual relationships, you may be sexually bi but romantically, you may prefer only one gender to date seriously.

That's perfectly normal, and how I am with men. I don't find them, like, icky, but I can't understand why I find some men attractive, but I'm well-aware of why I find women so lovely. Women tug at my heartstrings, but some men are unique enough in my eyes to stir the loins, I suppose--but I feel nothing for them emotionally unless lust is a viable emotion and not a response.

If you find yourself constantly 'turning' back and forth between genders, as in, gay-straight-gay-straight-gay-straight on a case-by-case basis, well, you're probably just be bi/pansexual.

Turning seems kinda awkward when held against serious business sexual preference definitions, but in a joking manner, yeah, Neil Gaiman. >__>; He's not gonna make me hunger for muscle men instead of wispy wenches, but he's one of those wildcards I just accept as attractive.

As for vampirism, I think that's an awkward thing to assert--I like bein' human. Besides, who says modern lit is correct about vampires? What if we were all Nosferatu? Ewww...

Fuck. Chalk another one up. What is it with gaunt, slightly-bewildered British men?

Yes, Clive Owen is very attractive. I have no idea why. It weirds me out because I think I focus on characteristics that aren't supposed to be attractive, like the slope of his face and how he holds his lips when he talks.

Im with ya on Edward Norton. Hes not regular attractive, but theres *something* there!

But Im a lady, so it doesnt really count.
Although, just as a side note.. Angelina Jolie... NO! Does she look like an alien to no one else?
She only looked away for a moment, and the mask slipped, and you fell. All your tomorrows start here.
