What Time zone are you in?

Postby clockworkmonk » Sun Sep 09, 2007 5:35 pm UTC

I was just wondering how we all track time, so here we go!

Being in central Texas, I am in GMT -6 (but acting as -5 right now because of Daylight Savings Time)

I know there are a lot of options, and I did not include all of them, but get as close as you can.

Used to be +12/+13, now I'm -4 or -5 or so. I haven't quite figured it out yet :)

Nominally -5, but currently stuck in the demonic grasp of daylight savings time.

If you're in the US, the furthest east you can be is -5. Though most of the GMT -5 time zone is in Daylight Savings Time now, so it's effectively -4. Just not actually -4.

Could this be telepathy at work? Just before I went to sleep last night (about midnight BST - probably 11pm GMT) I thought about a thread arranging people by timezone, or latitude, or longditude, as a pollish way of mapping people. Great minds...

Well, then, I do believe I'm -5, seeing as how I'm in Virginia.

I've been in -6 for more than a year, but since I grew up in -5 and am returning there in a couple weeks, that's the one I picked.
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.

Possibly, but that would kind of imply that it's just really unpleasant

well would a footnote to the flavour of describing mean as something good help?

Wait, the english general public lies on GMT, and they are mean...
(xkcd'ers are not the general public, as is said so often on these fora).

GMT -4 normally, but with DST, I have no idea what it is right now, nor do I care enough to find out, as time zones+DST makes my head hurt.

To be really technical, Guam is part of the US, and GMT+10

Not that being anywhere else in New Zealand would change your time-zone :)

So are you a uni student in Dunedin? If so, you'll know lots of people I know :) (Until a week ago I lived in Wellington, and lots of my mates went to study in Dunedin)

oh btw... Z > GMT

Z is two less letters and it means the same damn thing and us meteorology people use it and everyone else should and I'm saying this last part so I could have a lot of "and"s in this sentence.
