TLAs

What are some of your favorite TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms)? I actually don't have much else to write, I just thought it could be a fun topic.

I'd recommend this as brief topic in 'fleeting thoughts' or whatever the thread's called, but anyway, my TLA:

LRF(s).
Little Rubber Feet

Used in a computing store, with staff that patronize you, as they know what a hard drive is and the majority of their customers probably don't. Anyway, if they get particularly annoying, ask how many LRFs the machine in question has. Most likely, they'll go off to find the manager at some point... when they come back with no idea, and ask you what an LRF is, explain. Then leave the shop promptly and buy what you need somewhere else, or while the victim isn't doing a shift.

Oh me yarm!

My friends in college and I had so many damn TLAs to memorize that we actually did use the terms TLA and MLA (Multiple Letter Acronym) far too much. And we made up a lot of our own.
Because it's too damn easy to just say something, we had to make comments really verbose and then shorten them.
WTQ - With the Quickness
WTS - With the Slickness
WTD - With the Definite (are we seeing the trend?)
WTA - With the Absolute
and if you're really cool you do things WTQATS- with the quickness and the slickness, (and occasionally "and the definite and the absolute")
ATD, ATA.

We were in MAF where we'd use the MLA style to write papers on the EEZ and UNCLOS and things like that. We had too much fun. Or not fun at all. But we did LOL from time to time. And say WTF a lot.

I'm also an EWF- Tori Amos' name for her fans: Ears With Feet. Good times.

I like acronyms. A lot.

I fairly crass, but useful one:

RCH - Red Cunt Hair - The smallest amount of adjustment that can be made. "Just turn the valve an RCH and we'll be done."

A CCC or a "3C" is a chocolate chip cookie, of course. Not my favorite TLA, but a good starting point.

The one thing I miss about being in college are all the YIPs. Young impressionable persons. You could get them to do anything.

Besides, I always thought WAG stood for wild-ass-guess.

If WAG stands for 'Wives and girlfriends', then WAGs would be kind of like PIN number; WAGs would be something like 'wives and girlfriendses'. Why it's better that way? Mostly just because saying 'WAG' as a plural doesn't sound right. "Yeah, we got really drunk and stayed out way too late. All of our WAG were pissed."

No.

Last week I sent an email from work titled "FPD BCM ISS?" and starting, jokingly, with "Oh me yarm, too many TLAs!"

("Fresh PonD Books Cards Magazines In Store Special?" is the decrypted title, where "Fresh Pond" is one of our stores, "Books Cards Magazines" is a department, and well, the rest is obvious, I hope. Yes, "FPD" is technically cheating. No, I don't care.) We seriously drown on the things at work here. ("RCM SSI wants to know if the new UDF takes POS PLUs?" Oh me yarm WTF BBQ PIE.)

I think my favourite TLA is probably "WTH", because it's an interpret your own - people can assume I'm being as polite or impolite as they'd like. (Though folks offended by "hell" still confuse me.) Also because it inevitably comes up a lot.

Surprised "BTW" hasn't made an appearance yet.

Anyway I sometimes enjoy taking three letter acronyms and saying them in real life, but using the NATO phonetic alphabet to say them, particularly "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot."

The swedish military is supposed to adapt to the NATO standards. Its really hillarious since noone can remember the new stuff let alone the the old ones, and the result is usually a horrible mix (traditionally the use is rather rare since Swedish carries very well over radio, specific letters rarely sound similar and so on)
So almost everyone just makes up shit as they go along
i heard "Caesar kukar ur fullkommligt" reporting in, making the commanding staff giggelingly reprimand them.

(Caesar dicks out completly)

My favorite TLA would have to be GDB? (GÃ¥r det bra?) which means Is it going well? (Goes it well? directly translated)
