Hair length

Postby Cheese » Wed Dec 05, 2007 7:20 pm UTC

Okay, six options, plus the arbitrary silly one. Do you have long/short/somewhere in between/nonexistent hair for a guy/girl?

I'm interested in the average hair length for self-proclaimed nerds (which most of us are), especially for males, as I do notice more long haired, nerdilly inclined men than non-nerds with similar length.

Oh, and I'm male, with somewhere inbetween hair (it's getting long, but is only a few inches below my shoulders at the moment).

I'm a brunette, always have been, well no, that's a lie, short-lived stint as a blonde, they do not have more fun, and my hair is far too long, past my armpits, but I'm getting it cut on Friday.

My hair is a bit above my shoulders. I can never quite decide if that's medium length or short.

I have no idea. My hair is just below shoulder length, and I always considered it short, but recently I got told off because apparently it's long... Even for a female. They were guys, but I think they obviously don't know the women I know.

So before I answer, someone define "Short" and "Long" in female's hair for me.

I'm male. My hair used to be long (mid-back length), but before that (and after) it was very short. A little bit more than an inch.

Currently, it's about chin-length. I said "in between".

I selected long, because it is long in my peer group. I am a male and the back of my hair maybe touches my shoulders? Just barely though.

I'd say below shoulders length is long, above chin length short, and anything in between is mid-length.

It's currently to about ear length, and is getting longer (because I'm not cutting it, not because it's growing). It came down from a little past shoulder length last spring to pretty much ubershort, and that's just unacceptable.
Totally not a hypothetical...

I like to keep my hair short, because it requires little care other than an approximately-monthly shearing with a beard trimmer. It also gives me the opportunity to tell just about everyone that they "look like a damn hippie".

Mine's shortish now (male), but for a year after I graduated from High School I had hair right above my shoulder blades. My brother and his friends called me Jesus until I cut it, 'cause I vaguely resembled Ted Neely from JCS :P.

I'm male and I keep my hair short. If it gets any longer than I have it now (just over an inch, I think) then I have to get it cut. I have really thick hair and it's annoying to deal with when it gets too long ("too long" by my definition of long).

Whoo hoo! First man with no hair! Actually, it's still pretty thick on the sides and back, but I keep it clipped super-short and since I'm blond, it's like it's not there.

I can't say the same about my beard, which makes visible nicks in razor blades after one use, so I quit shaving.

I voted short (guy), but it's not buzz cut short or anything. Basically when the stuff made from ground up volcanoes loses the ability to keep it pointing upwards I get it cut.

Wasn't so much as criticism for having long hair, but calling it long. They also complain when I cll my hair brown. Any female can look at my hair, particularly in the sun, and tell you it's brown, but since it's so dark my male friends just say it's black and tell me I'm nitpicking. We get into a lot of odd debates concerning fashion.

I guess it's different for men (and for hair that short), but I have incredibly thick hair too, and I can't control it unless it's long enough to weigh itself down. If I ever cut it above my shoulders, the thickness of it fills out and goes effectively horizontal.

I had a similar problem where it was also curly. I like my hair below my shoulders, but it was too big, especially on the bottom edge. So the hairdresser cut really long layers into it, and now it falls perfectly, and my hair doesn't fill 3/4s of an ID photo.

Mmm, point. Still, my hair looks infinitely better now even on a humid day. It looked like a tent before. Occasionally, it looked like a tent that was trying to become an afro.

Mine is just longer than collar length. My dad is disapproving, but I'll wait until school complains before I get it cut back a bit. It grows like a weed anyway.

Mine's a bit below my shoulders now, but I'm going to get it cut over winter break. My ideal length is a little bit above shoulder height.

My hair is naturally straight, but invariably curls up a bit at the ends. It looks rather silly when it's too short.

Long, and getting longer :) I've also had really short hair (boyshort - my bf liked that the most..he's so gay), really long hair (like..all the way down to my ass) and in-between-hair.. I'm a natural blond, but I've also been a brunette for a year and now I'm bleaching it to be even blonder. Thinking about going partly pink (my bf votes for all pink..) got the dye just need my mom to help me fix it (she's the only one I'd trust to do it).

Interesting,yes? :)

Do mean to ask, "at this moment"? Or...

It has, in times long past, reached my belt. At other times it has been cut to less than 1/2 inch. At this specific point in time, it is just about reaching my shirt collar and growing longer each day.

i voted mid-length/female... my hair just touches my shoulders. it's currently shorter than anything i've had before (since i started to have a say in how my hair was cut, as a caveat) and i was really worried i wouldn't like it (i've always loved long hair).

but i trust my hairdresser and she's proved to be right again!! i'm kinda loving it this length!

Female, i voted 'in between', since I consider 'long' hair to go down to the middle of the back. Mine is over shoulder length (longer), and I'll let it grow to see how long it will get.
Now I have to decide if I want do dye it black or stay with red. I don't feel like red at the moment, but black is so determinating if you want to let your hair grow out.

Male and I voted "in between" simply because I'm growing it out and it's not exactly short, which I consider to be the buzz cuts I'd get on occasion. Right now, the sides and back are short-ish, but my bangs are just long enough to stab me in the eye if I'm not careful.

Female, and mine is really long. Like down to the middle of my butt at least, and if I'm on something squishy I sit on the ends of it. I haven't ever had it shorter than waist length since I could get it to grow that long, but this is the longest it's ever been (but not by much). I generally chop a few inches off sometime over the summer but this time I got curious to see how long I could get it to grow before it looked really bad or I got sick of it. Not sure why, but I've always liked my hair as long as possible.

Male and long. Mid-back length, and I'm going to keep growing it.
I get lots of people asking me when I'm going to cut my hair which really pisses me off. I don't see why they feel they need to know, or they believe I would answer them even if I were going to get it cut (because it's generally people in the negatives on my like-o-meter).

It's really thick too, and likes to poof. I just keep it in a ponytail all the time. This has caused hilarious gender misconceptions before, and I'm sure it will continue to.

Male, long. It's about mid-back, maybe a bit shy of it. I only cut it when I notice tons of split ends, and then it's just an inch or less here and there. The point being that it does not appear to have been cut.
So, I got tired of the fact that the appearance of my band name in my signature made my posts on this forum the dominant result when googling for my music. Anyway, if you think I might happen to be a good musician, you can test this theory here.
