Posters, and the Posting of Them

Postby Kaletécho » Sun Dec 23, 2007 6:04 pm UTC

Believe it or not, no pun intended.

What kind of posters do you have hanging in your flat/dorm/bedroom/basement?
Would you be embarrassed if your mother saw them?
If so, you have pictures of them?

I myself have a quadrilingual periodic table of the elements (English, French, Spanish, and German), a Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue' poster and a map of the continental US (NatGeo FTW).

I have several wolves, a world map (because my geographic knowledge is beyond terrible), a heat-imaged pic of me holding a piece of plasticine cooled down to about -40C, a poster of an angel (I have a big obsession with winged creatures). I'm about to put this up on kitchen door (I made it last night because I was bored and wanted to experiment with vector images):

In my room, I have several band posters (Alexisonfire, Silverstein, Atreyu, Underoath), a couple hockey posters, and some art pieces that some girls in my class painted for me, and two pencil drawings that I stole from the 'Student Artwork' bulletin board at my highschool because they're funny.

Here's one of the pencil drawings:

In our bedroom (me and my bf) we have band-posters (AFI, Blink-182, the Offspring, Sublime, Rammstein, NOFX) and in the living room we have a Reservoir Dog's poster and a poster from The March Of the Emperor Penguin.

I'm gonna make some art and frame some pictures to put up later, but I'm lazy:)

At university, I have a movie poster of Kill Bill, a movie poster of Snakes on a Plane, and a movie poster of Sin City (Little Nancy Callahan. She grew up. She filled out.). Lots of R-rated movies, for some reason. Plus, I have one of the 5 Chinese Elements, which normally goes over my desk. At home, I mostly have some really nice crayon drawings from my friend. She's an art student now, but these were from when she was mostly in an anime phase, so I should get some new ones. XD

That one's really cool, I gave that to a friend recently. He used to have a portrait of Legolas over his bed, insisting that his mom made him have it there every time i bullied him about it.. I think Nancy Callahan is more fitting for a 17-year old boys bedroom:)

Hehe. Much. Though considering I was a 20 year old girl, maybe Legolas would be more appropriate over my bed than Nancy Callahan. XD Still an awesome poster though.

On my walls, I have:
- Various drawings that I've done, or were given to me
- Huge cinema sized film posters (Darjeeling Limited, Edward Scissorhands, Hot Fuzz and Fear and Loathing)
- Band posters (Too much Radiohead, Joy Division and MSI. Plus some smallers ones of Jason Mraz, Bowie, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits)
- Game posters (pretty much any Bioware-related poster I can convince Gamestop to give me)
- And then a wall of old gig tickets/flyers, postcards and photos of my friends, family, and me and MSI. :D

Um. Yeah.

My only poster is the Map of the Interwebs. I feel somehow lacking, but I feel even more lacking in wall space to put awesome posters on. (Besides, I need room to hang swords.)

I've got...

An opera poster for Verdi's "Rigoletto" (one of the few I've seen in person).

A vintage-looking movie poster for "Star Wars" (officially "A New Hope" but this is back when it was still just "Star Wars")

A poster for "Casablanca" complete with Bogey and Bergman.

Over my bed, there's a "Princess Bride" silouette picture.

And across the room, my own dear handmade Jack Sparrow Jolly Roger (done to promote my most recent production of "The Pirates of Penzance")

Oh Yeah ^^x

Only two (I need more, namely something along the lines of Firefly or Arrested Development or something clever and computer-science-y): An O.A.R. poster, and a Dave Matthews Band 2007 tour poster I paid thirty bucks for.

As for the ripoff price for the DMB poster, I really really wanted it.

I'm a sucker.

Just staring.

I have posters of:

-a sculpture by Alexander Calder(the one who invented mobiles) (sculpture is The Arch, a different angle than the picture there)
-a poster for Spamalot from Broadway
-from IBM- their "What makes you special?" ad campaign- it's dark bluish and has text in a row in various colors with such things as "not usual", "not obvious", "not comparable", and on the bottom it says "what makes you special?" in white
-picture of an aquarium
-"The Photonic Spectrum Reference Wall Chart", which is a placeholder for me someday printing the Electromagnetic Spectrum comic
-"The Moon" from a Smithsonian museum
-one of the Unicorn Tapestries (this in poster form, pretty much, without the clicking on it for details)
-a Chagall painting, image search finds picture of it here

I am rabidly collecting movie posters. Once I have an excessive collection, I'm am planning on siccing my obsession onto games posters.

So far, I have:

- A massive Scarface poster (technically a flag, but I treat it as a poster)
- A Clockwork Orange poster (to be precise, a blown-up film still)
- A Rocky Horror Picture Show poster
- A Jurassic Park poster
- A Pulp Fiction poster
- A Godzilla poster
- Various band posters (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Steppenwolf, T-Rex etc). I buys 'em as I sees 'em.
- The Online Communities poster. I love my intarbutts.

I'm getting a poster at the average of one a month. My next victims include The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Metropolis, Attack of the 50 ft Woman, Requiem for a Dream and Lolita.

Mine too, I got the Director's Cut for Christmas and one of the first things I did was scan in that page at 400dpi so I could make it into a poster.

And holy crap that was the fastest response I have ever seen, keep up the good work, Belial.

WIN. For reals. I managed to track down the all of the individual issues (color covers, tee hee!) but now I need to lay my hands on the Director's Cut. (Because that's like, my favorite 'episode' ever. "I have these moral dilemmas...")

That's also an excellent solution to my empty-walls problem - indeed, anyone's empty-wall problem: Vasquez.
I wrote it in a style I fondly refer to as "unabashedly fancy" - i.e., "Fuck Zen minimalism, I'm gonna use all of my favorite words and stack loads of complex syntax n' modifying phrases'n'clauses in this motherfucker, goddamn."

I'm pretty happy with my walls now, a Soviet Union propaganda poster and a WWII-era U.S. navy recruiting poster. The only problem with the Soviet poster is I don't know what it says. This isn't a poster but I also have a woven lion from Kenya hanging on the wall.
