well...I'm in London....but erm, NOT ME! I'm not awfully good with people!

A rickrolling waterloo station or trafalgar square sounds like fun.

Why haven't we thought of this earliar? We need to Rick Roll Jon Stewart and/or Stephen Colbert.

This thread has become tl;dr for the time being. However, a couple of brief comments. First, has this (news article, not rickroll; you can verify by looking at the url if you don't believe me) been posted yet? Second, here's an interview with Astley on the subject of the rickroll. And finally, you may find Rickroll link removed entertaining.

I swear I'm gonna start answering rickrolls with the banhammer. Cut it out. - Hammer

edit: OK, so I guess the simple rickrolls are ok as long as they don't do the "take over your computer" thing. They're still incredibly annoying, but I guess I won't ban you for them - Hammer :D
This is a placeholder until I think of something more creative to put here.

I have a friend who's an intern on The Colbert Report, but I'd bet money it's already been done.

What about getting Stephen Colbert to rickroll a guest?

It would be easier to get him to invite Stewart on his show again and Rickroll him, because, y'know, he'd have to convince the guest in advance.
Wait...."Jimmy" RickRolls Colbert! That would be awesome!

Stephen Colbert might know what a Rickroll is, but I doubt Jon Stewart would. How well would it go over with the Colbert audience? What percentage of them are internet dorks? Maybe half? I dunno.

Two things- this project, to be truly xkcd needs a human hamster ball involved, preferably containing Rick Astley/a Rick-a-like. Picture an expectant audience, waiting for their performer/presenter/show when Rick Astley rolls across the stage singing "Never Gonna Give You Up". Personally, I think this would be lol to the nth degree. (EXTRA CREDIT: Add in crowdsurfing).

Alternatively, if we can convince/bribe/seduce a news show's media controller to replace the entire video clip collection for the show with the clip, pretty much
the same thing as in the comic, except to an entire country.

Newscaster: ...we go live to ____
*Never gonna give you up*
Newscaster: Uhh...we seem to have the wrong video...*ahem*...we go live to ____...
*...never gonna let you down...*

You get the idea.

Also... how about getting a search engine to redirect all searches to the youtube clip?

Exactly, but for real. It would be even better if it went to a actual results page, where everything is a rickroll.
Anyone know how many searches Google or Yahoo gets a day?

Um, when I searched through it, it did redirect all of the search results to a RickRoll. Did I miss something in what you were trying to say?

I mean the the actual Google homepage, not a fake (a working fake, but fake nonetheless),
I would bet very few people would stumble upon that site looking for google.com.
Also, one that doesn't just redirect "I'm feeling lucky'' searches.

The one linked goes to a rickroll for all the results. And if we somehow had mass access to people's computers we could make some custom DNS entries into the hosts files and redirect google.com to that page...unfortunately, I don't think we have mass access to that.

The easy way to do it is to send it to someone as the result of a search Like this
or if you have physical access to their machine, set the fake Google to be the homepage when they're not looking.

Yes, but that still doesn't cause the roll if they go to Google.
