we were playing maw (the game where everyone who wins gets to make a rule), and someone made a rule that everyone who plays a card that's the same number as the one before has to sing. then he rickrolled us.

they've made a site that restores the web page to normal size and then moves the web page's position like every 5 seconds. and to close it you have to go through a bunch of little text boxes that contain the lyrics. so you get rickroll'd not once, but twice. dammit steve *shakes fist at rl friend who sent me the link*

Rick rolling is so old now....

It was funny tolerable for a while... Now it is just annoying.

Guys!
I once rickrolled my entire university history class.
It was April Fool's Day, and I was fooling around on my laptop in class, when I clicked on a link someone had posted on the main page of isohunt.com.

Which led to a rickroll, of course.
But I, in my unsuspectingness, had left my volume at FULL BLAST, and it took a few moments before I could turn it off.

My boyfriend rickrolled me today. I gave him my USB at lunch to transfer over some music files I asked him to download for me, and once he gave it back he implied that he may have given me some porn. I got home and discovered a folder on the USB marked 'Yaoi'. Myself being a huge yaoi fan, I was dismayed to find the file contained only a single picture (it was a completely random picture of Super Saiyan Pyramid Head and not yaoi at all) and a word file entitled 'Links'.

Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

There were two legitimate links in there though, and I got my music, so I'm happy.

I don't frequent other fora much any more. When I ventured out to another forum I was horrified to find out that people were still actively rickrolling without irony. I was more than horrified. I was sadly amused that it had continued so long.

I go to other fora soemtimes and see people bitching at the mods, mods bitching at the people, and people in general jumping all over each other. Then I come back here and bask in the warm light-blue glow of this site.

So for a couple more legitimate rickroll incidents:

I got rickrolled three times during PAX last weekend.
Jonathan Coulton did it twice to a crowd of thousands -- once with the video and everything, and again during a different song.
Wil Wheaton opened his monologue with the lyrics as a dramatic poetry reading.

But it was all in good fun :)

Most Epic Rickroll. Ever.

Postby TheMaskedAvenger » Wed Sep 10, 2008 4:04 pm UTC

Right, here's an idea I got off another forum for the most amazing rickroll ever. The upcoming MTV Europe Music Awards are being held in Liverpool soon and the basic idea if that for the 'best act ever' we get as many people as we can to vote for Rick Astley. If you wish to take part, just follow this link: http://ema.mtv.co.uk/vote/#_ Then scroll down until it says 'Don't see your favourite artist listed? Write-in your unsung nominee here.' Click 'Best Act Ever' then type in 'Rick Astley'. If we get enough people, then perhaps we can perform the most epic rickroll to date, to thirty-million people live! If you wish to post this somewhere else, then feel free too, otherwise we will struggle for votes. Thank you very much to anyone who takes part and Happy Rick-Rolling! :D
Why is writing a materpiece so hard to write? Most consist of three chords and a bloke who can't sing groaning about life in Manchester. Why can't I do that?

Rickrolling is a disgrace. It was funny when it first surfaced on 4chan (I admit I used to chan alot) but it spiraled out of control within days. Now there's rickrolling t-shirts, tributes on youtube, just a shame to everything the internet stands for. Independence, originality, creativity. All of it is bukkake'd on when someone is rickrolled.

As I wandered through a dilapidated Hobby Lobby, I heard the first opening lines of Sweet Home Alabama. Suddenly, the music went quiet, and a soft static sound played through the intercom for a second or two. Moments later, I heard Rick Astley blaring through the store.

I still want to know who was bored enough to Rickroll two dozen bitter old ladies.

I'm told someone sang "never gonna give you up" at karaoke on Wednesday at the Asgard, but I don't actually remember it happening at all.

During orientation week at University we were all split into teams within our faculty, and one of the teams mainly made of software engineers started singing 'never going to give you up' during their time to cheer. It was very well played, they rick rolled the entire group of first year Mathies.

I work at Best Buy and we periodically have early morning meetings where we have to watch videos put together by corporate. A month or so ago they had one of the recurring "characters," a hand puppet dog, launch into "Never Gonna Give You Up" after someone said something about going back to the eighties.

So yea, we were rickrolled by corporate at seven in the morning.

I got Rickrolled by my government teacher and the REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION!
So, for government class, we had to write an analysis of McCain's presidential acceptance speech. Having missed the live version, I do the easy thing: hop onto youtube and search. I get a few results with the speech in several parts, but don't feel like having to click. Then I see one thta appears to be the entire thing in one sitting- it's long enough, and the thumb was of McCain.
Click, and what do I get!?
Bam bam, bam bam bam- Bu biddi buddu!
I didn't know whether to hurt the computer or die of laughter.

My friends and I got rickrolled by a dr. who episode once ( I think it was in Season 1 of the newest incarnation? Might have been season 2)

Spoiler:
Rose goes back to the day her father died and it's playing in his car.

We all looked at each other incredulously and then wondered if it had been deliberate or not. There's no telling with the BBC.

That would have been season 1, which I think was before RRing really got any mainstream attention. So my guess is that either one of the writers was a regular on 4chan, or (more likely) they were looking for a song to represent the cheesy 80s.

At this point in the day (almost 2 PM), I've already heard the song in 2 different rooms. My floor has a ton of /b/tards, so it's par for the course.

The really bad thing about it is that it wasn't the regular version, but a cover made by an alum. It's even worse then the original (but still well done in it's own way), mostly because of half tone-deaf singing. If you really want to watch it, it's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6GfSxUHo9s
