I've been 16 for a whole...21 hours now!

Congrats to me for not yet dying?

But no, seriously. Why do we celebrate birthdays?

On January 10th I turn 18 :D Oh glorious responsibilities!

Every time my birthday passes I want to play the song "Time" by Pink Floyd. It just fits so well.

So we still post our Birthdays here?

Mine is 12th of May, so I share it with Peshmerga! Whoever Peshmerga is, would Peshmerga like to post here so I can introduce myself to Peshmerga?

On January 5 I'm 18...not looking forward to it, it kinda feels like the point where I'm going to have to stop hoping that one day when I open my wardrobe Narnia will be there... :P

Turns out it's just an arbitrary number. Now, almost two months in, I'm still always imagining hidden groves whilst wandering the forest and half expecting to find hidden passages and nifty secret rooms in the old buildings.

On a related note, I really miss the MIT basements.

That's what I'm hoping for. The problem is other people -- there's a bit of an expectation put on turning 18...as if I'm suddenly going to change overnight.

Oh well, at least I'll be able to buy booze. I'm sure that makes up for it somehow. :P

Hah! I don't even get to do that. All I got were the abilities to vote and to contractually sign my life over to someone else. I guess I can buy cigarettes and porn now too, but I don't have any interest in either of those things. Nor in alcohol, really, but I dislike being told that I can't do something.

I still need to find out how the hell you register to vote in the US from the UK...

You might stop hoping that it will happen on its own, but you may also start realizing how much you are capable of making happen yourself when you no longer have to listen to the people who tell you that it's impossible.

Should I be PMing Ren or something to get my Birthday on it, or will she eventually see the post I made?

See, I have solved the whole dd/mm vs. mm/dd debate! Simply arrange to be born on a date where they are interchangeable and the problem is solved.

I feel jealous that my birthday is already taken, but I also get a sick feeling in my stomach knowing I'm coming up on 25 next year.

(June 9)

It's not that I want to make everyone older than me feel "old" (although, I do), but time flies by so quickly that it really does make me ill to think about it slipping away.

September 18th.

I don't even want to say how old I'm going to be.

I can't even believe i'm going to be 29. The thought of being that close to actually being 30 really is frightening.

Saying you feel old in your 20's does not lend you an air of maturity. It's like a 5-year-old stumbling into the room saying he's having a mid-life crisis. It's cute maybe once.

Unless you are a ballet dancer or gymnast, get over the big bad 20's. You're still children.

The aire of maturity just because you're out of your 20s comes off as complete bullshit to me, as well.

The fact that I recognize exactly how quickly life flows by means that the few years til I'm 30 mean dick. Nothing more.

(I never said I'm mature because I get perks out of poking people's oversensitive ego's. The fact that you're so annoyed with younger people just means you're a bit oversensitive about your own age.)

<- That's my serious take on what is supposed to be a frivilous birthday thread.
