(Please don't be offended by this, OP, it's not a criticism aimed at you)

There seems to be several "costume ideas" threads, every one for a different forumite and a different occassion.
This one;
Musical fancy dress party;
General fancy dress party;
"Anything but clothes" party;
and they're just the ones posted this year.

Merge? Perhaps a general costume thread (or even sticky if it's that popular)? This one tried to be a general costume thread:
"Nerding it up hardcore: dress-up! (Post Pictures)"

edit: ok I will also try to help, not just be a mod-wannabe. Last sci fi party I went to my friend managed an AWESOME job of an alien monster robot thingy with green refuse sacks taped together over his clothes to cover most of his body, some green diswashing type gloves, cardboard covers for his shoes and a cilindrical cardboard "head" with a visor cut out for his eyes and an antenae stuck on top (pipe cleaner or something). Unfortunately I don't have access to the photos from here.

sorry and thanks, i forgot the obligatory search...

it seems that that costume your friend made took ages to prepare...scrathc that... it sounds like an awesome costume, especially value wise...
i think i will try make this a general thread, with any cool geeky or nerdy or nerd-type costumes - like space ones don't have to be nerdy or geeky, but should still find their way here...
on the point that they don't have to be nerdy or geeky, it sure does help if they are...

funnily enough, it seems i'm not needed at this disco (i was going to be working, as a techie) so i'm not going, as i don't find them all that much fun
so, lets just all suggest awesome costumes that we wished we would do, or we have seen done, like:

have fun... i would go first, but i don't have any good ideas at the moment...
EDIT:
lol, it seems i forgot about all my summer plans...

i need ideas for a costume on the theme of
JAPAN*
it shouldn't be to expensive (<£10) and should be able to pack small
i don't really like the manga style of stuff, so perhaps best not to go down that route...
btw, for info i'm a medium build white british male, so nothing that isn't to hard
*= the party is at a music festival as well which rather restricts me as i'm camping...

BTW, always remember the excuse of "oh, i'm sorry i thought it was a <insert theme here> party"

I was particularly amused by this one:
You know someone eventually had to screw up something as simple as a Red Dress...

Yeah, so it was a Read Dress. That's close enough right?

This will probably be unhelpful to you given your time frame, but I'm going to my senior prom wearing a dress and a suit, split in half on the y axis. I'll be my own date, tux on the right, gown on the left.

that's the best, or a slight cahnge to one of the idea above and go half ninja half pirate...

but that'd make me a target from both...

i think it's a risk i'm willing to take....

Japanese school girl (sailor uniform). Bonus points if you're a 300 pound Caucasian male.

i'm 78kg about... don't know what that is in pounds, but could wear a sumo-suit

ok, the original request has been fulfilled, i think i'll buy a pirate costume and a ninja costume... and wear the bottom half of the first and the top half of the second the first day, and then the other halves the second day...

i still want to hear good ideas, cos i can still change my mind, before the 1st april

and i still want to see other costumes...

I once had a pirates vs. ninjas party. Tragically, only two people came as pirates, so the ninjas killed them easily.

My point being, theme parties rule.
