If you're going to have animations, or movie clips, or even a slideshow, fine - the visual is offering a lot of information, but otherwise I'd far prefer just to read the script. It's faster, I can more easily skim, skip and check back, I can annotate stuff, I can read it on more devices, it's far more data efficient etc. etc.
I suppose there is some advantage to seeing the person who is authoring the piece, but surely a photo of them accomplishes almost as much as a video.
Also props to the few people that provide transcripts with their videos - that's an ideal solution.
I Agree. This is why I don't like most internet videos when I am searching for information. I want text to read and I want to read it at my pace and easily figure out where the info I need is. Videos are not needed for sooooo many things people make videos for these days. I can see how some people may prefer the format. Not me. I like books.
The worst problem I encounter with that shit is.. video game walkthroughs. I get stuck sometimes, I want to look up some information. Not proud of it, but not denying it either.
I liked the Gamefaq days where people would have a table of contents with a pseudo-random hash-like thing (Chapter 3 : Ice Kingdom [v74na8768a]) so you could just search for that and find the chapter you wanted, or in some cases the game just has obvious parts and you want to find what to do where...
But no, all I can find are walkthrough videos. Where if I turn the sound on, get to listen to some obnoxious voice on a shitty mic talking about upcoming sections ("Don't forget to get torches here, you'll need them in Chapter 5 when the Trollknights attack") and either way, I'm scanning through the 20 minute video looking for the part I'm stuck in, OR I'm looking at his giant list of videos all given shitty punny names (Walkthrough Part 5 - Big Trouble in Ice Castles) that also make it hard to find as... in my hypothetical, I'm in the Ice Kingdom. Is there an Ice Castle later or is that the same thing or....?
