Wonderful.

It rained all of yesterday and flooded a few places and they're still not canceling school.

Douches.
Significantly less weird than I used to be. Still pretty weird.

Why did I say yes when you (school newspaper staff) asked if you could "make up a quote"? How could I possibly have thought that was a good idea? How did I forget that most of the newspaper staff appears to be incompetent? How did I forget that you're not exactly the brightest bulb around? The quote you made up makes me sound like a conceited asshole. Is it really that hard to make up quotes that don't make people sound like conceited assholes? Apparently not because the quotes you made up for other people are completely reasonable.

I'm seriously going to ask if I can help edit that garbage. Here's a sample sentence from an article entitled "Student relects on high school experience." Yes, the paper says "relects." In huge, bold letters. At least it's not on the cover. Anyway, the sentence: "Students have to take SAT prep and prepare themselves for the tests will be are their tickets into a good university." Obviously I'm cherry-picking an example and the paper isn't usually that bad, but there are usually tons of spelling and grammar issues (and that's ignoring the fact that the writing itself is generally garbage.)

That's completely and totally lame. And totally why I would never participate in an amateur's night. (How's the job going, by the way? It sounds like it would be fun... most of the time.)

Something similar happened in my high school talent show. A fat girl in my year and her skinny friend decided to do a dance to that one song... singing it to myself until I remember the title... I love Rock and Roll. It was a well-choreographed dance, using chairs as props. Both girls were unpopular and you know how catty high school girls can be... and how uh, asshole-ish the guys can be toward an unattractive female.

Not only were other participants in the show rude toward them both (I was doing a sax solo and a bunch of band kids were in the show/running it, so I heard all of the inside gossip), on the night of the talent show they got booed by most of the students attending, almost off the stage. She managed to finish the dance before she made it offstage and cried.

The whole thing made me really angry because she was always an unfailingly nice person. And I thought the dance was good, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten past the choir director's audition. She just happened to have acne and a big stomach and not a lot of money.

so yeah. People suck.

What in the name of fuck were you thinking, 10:10? Fine, fine, getting people to reduce their carbon emissions - a noble goal, if slightly short on scale. But why at any point during the filming of this new advert did none of you realise that it might be in poor taste, quite disturbing, and likely to push back any hopes of convincing people?

10:10 - "No Pressure" (NSFW - GORE)

(Gore as in violence, not Gore as in Al Gore)

I mean... what. WHAT. Why did you think this would convince anyone? The casual sociopathy and the message that people would take from it can not help your cause in any way. People who were undecided or skeptical would hardly be persuaded by an argument that basically goes "Join or Die". And it worries me (onside) about the thoughts of the people behind the advert. And what's worse, it's fuelled the flames of people who belittle and rage against the AGW movement.

10:10 have apologised for it. And I guess this is providing publicity, in a way. But it's still not a good way to get attention.

Letting agents: I'm not surprised at you being lying scum and advertising properties that you let weeks ago. Everyone knows the stereotype of people in the property business being untrustworthy. Why must you also shoot yourselves in the foot? I gave you all my contact details so you could contact me when the property you assured me was coming onto the market was availabe for viewing. I come back today to find out why you haven't contacted me, and lo and behold the property has already been let. Do you think that's going to make me want to try to see other properties from you? No, it just reinforces my belief that I'm going to get screwed around with and not get anywhere.
Oh, and why are half the letting agents in town shut on a Saturday? Let me spell it out for them: You want to rent properties to people. People need money to pay rent. People make money by working. Most people work Monday to Friday. Wouldn't it be a good idea to be open on Saturday, so we can see what properties you actually have available? If you were, you might end up letting a property to us and collecting your exorbitant fees. Fuckwits.
Please note that despite the lovely avatar Sungura gave me, I am not a medical doctor.

Possibly my proudest moment on the fora.

As for the advert itself, that was unbelievably horrifying. Join our cause or we'll press a button to make you die in a gruesome fashion. How did anyone think a message like that was a good idea?

Isn't most of the 'green propaganda' just along the lines of «Drop that 20W light bulb or go to hell!»? I think the whole climate change message per se is often done completely wrong. After all man-made climate change is far less proven than some people want it to look like, considering how the majority of climate models it's based on work under the assumption that man-made CO2 is the decisive factor and then call «man-made CO2 is a decisive factor» their result... I'd much prefer a message based on the very simple and common sense argument, that putting a large volume of gas into the atmosphere just can't be healthy in the long run.

Talked to a lady running an essential oils booth at a local fair with a sign that said "We love skeptics". This is all paraphrased, of course:

Me: "I'm curious as to how you make these without any chemicals."

Her: "Well, none of these things in the ingredients are chemicals."

Me: "Erm, yes they are. Vitamin E, that's a chemical, right?"

Her: "No."

Me: "Well, what would you say a chemical is?"

Her: "I don't know."

Later on:

Me: "Have you tried using placeboes when you conduct your research?"

Her: "Well, no, we haven't tried that."

Even later:

Her: "Your brain sends endorphins to the affected area. I don't know how it works, but I know it does. Let me put it this way: I don't know how a phone works, but it does."

*Pleasantries*

*I leave*

Me, in my head on the way home: "I happen to know how a phone works, and I know enough about how the brain works to be able to tell you that that is not how endorphins work."

Yeah, I cleaned the keyboard of my Toshiba laptop the other day. I took off all the keys and found a layer of hairy, sticky filth. I cleaned it as much as I could, but I don't think it'll ever be completely clean.

If I really want to clean it, I take all of the keys off and get a bottle of rubbing alcohol and some cotton balls. I would do that right now, but it's a lot of work and I'm lazy.

Rant: I'm learning Hebrew from a Romanian whose accent is demolishing the language and, when I try to point that out, thinks that I don't understand the topic as a whole. She is zooming through vocabulary words and I can't maintain them, and I think I'm actually losing my ability to speak Hebrew while I'm here in Israel, while it should be the other way around.

I'm disgruntled in the greatest.

Which would entail switching out of the class into a class full of people who are at such a lower level than me.

This program isn't rich, only enough for about 4 Hebrew teachers.

Solution: keep attending this teacher until you're at the level of the people who are currently below you, then switch teachers.

God dammit. All I wanted to do was play some fucking Mechwarrior. I put CD1 into the drive and start it up. Oh, I need CD#2 to run. SO I look, and can't find CD #2. Ok, find the no cd hack. It doesn't work. Try this other no cd hack I found. That doesn't work. Try the free version you can download from mektek. It won't install. Fuck. Seriously, all I want to do is play a game that I fucking paid for, and that you can GET FOR FREE. And I can't.

I can top that. Tried to play a slightly aged game this summer and found that the copy protection decides that newer version of windows equal piracy. The bloody CD is in the drive, what else do you want?

I'm gonna hedge my bets and probably go with one of the more sexual iterations of http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=FFF

Spoiler:
Why is it this hard to just find a job? I mean, I heard all about the economy and how it's apparently very hard to find a job and all, but being the naive, innocent teenager I am (was?) I just thought people were being dramatic. People are dramatic all the time! How was I supposed to know they were being serious about this? Dammit, I just want to be some minimum-wage slave flipping burgers or stocking shelves or something. I don't particularly care at this point, as long as I make some money. Fuck this whole "growing up" thing. I didn't want and didn't need financial responsibilities, and now that I have them I can't be responsible for them! This is bullshit! How many applications do I have to fill out before I am even recognized? I got an interview at the first place I applied to, then never heard from them again. Since then I've applied to more than 50 places and haven't heard a thing, except from Lowe's, who keeps sending me form "We regret to inform you, etc" emails.

Along the same lines, how long is my dad going to punish me for not having a job? The whole point of it in the first place (which I agreed with) was that I was wasting my time not looking for a job. Now that I am spending most of my free time trying to find employment, why am I not allowed some enjoyment in those few spare hours? I can only clean and organize my room (one of the precious few remaining forms of entertainment available to me anymore) so many times before it becomes boring, and I can't drive anywhere to do anything because I can't fucking pay for gas. It's not like he's any help in the matter anyways, he hasn't had to apply for a job in over 19 years, and even then he hardly had to work for it. Times have changed ever so slightly since then.

Spoil't because I kind of come off as a self-entitled brat. Which I guess is probably true, but still. Fuck this shit.

tl;dr: whaaah, finding jobs is hard.

I'm fairly sure there's a typo in my calculus textbook. Unfortunately, I spent way too much time trying to see where I went wrong before coming to that conclusion.

It's true, and I had to go through this myself right at the start of the recession. All the oldies keep insisting that it shouldn't be hard to find a job and that if you're having trouble, you must be doing something wrong.

The only thing I can suggest is to be relentless in sending out applications. Send hundreds if you have to. Roll the dice enough times and it's bound to come up with a six eventually.

What he said. Looking for a job is soul-destroying, especially right now.

Unrelated rant: Brain. Shut. The fuck. Up. Already. I am unamused by your ridiculous rambling.
