"It" was referring to the machine that reads scantrons. I'm not that great at pronouns.

"Scantron" is the machine...

Well, when a teacher hands out tests, they don't say they're handing out prepared forms for use in scantrons, they just say they're handing out scantrons. I've never heard the first usage of the term, I've always heard it called a scantron machine.

Yep. We don't even use Scantron anymore (usually), but a Grade Master (iirc). Still call it Scantron, though, and I can't wait until we overthrow their patent claim.

I've always assumed 'Scantron' was a brand name, and that therefore things emblazoned with the 'Scantron' logo could all be called 'scantrons' equally well. Just as one might refer to "my Nikes" to refer to shoes in one context and golf balls in another. Or how "Polaroid" to refer to both the camera made by Polaroid and the photo printout produced by a Polaroid camera.

I've heard older physics professors refer to Polaroids as a polarizing filter as well.

Made this ages ago. Don't remember the source though.

Or, in English:
Meet hat guy.
Hat guy and hat hat guy are clearly different people.
Hat-Q is equal to Hat-Hat Q for all vectors Q in n-dimensional space. (Where hat is taken to mean the unit vector operator)
So hat guy and hat hat guy are equal.
Contradiction!
I edit my posts a lot and sometimes the words wrong order words appear in sentences get messed up.
