Right, good afternoon.

You may have noticed that the xkcdsw archive is up to date, with the latest posts made here having been archived. With the completion of the archive comes a chance for some basic statistics.

Image
This thread was a lot more busy in '09 than it has been thus far this year. Makes my life easier as an archivist, but I'm sure there's life in the old dog yet. Commentaries welcome on whether this is a trend, if it's related to trends in the wider xkcd, and so forth.

Image
Vista is, of course, the ultimate meme: it's been used 90 times throughout this thread. A close second is "I've never been so turned on in my life", used 67 times. The recent spate of Kama Sutra sourcing has helped it into third place, and there are many other memes you'll recognise in the list of top sources.

Let me know if you think of any other statistics that would be useful; I'll draw up graphs like those above, and all graphs will be available at http://xkcdsw.com/charts. In the meantime, I'll keep an eye out for new posts. Keep posting!

Nice work :-) I was just wondering, I noticed that all of my xkcdsws seem to have disappeared from the site, accessing them through the archive produces an error, how come?

Sometime last year, the fora software was upgraded; this resulted in a large number of posts losing the links to their images, so I couldn't see the images when I came around to indexing them.

If you've got copies of your comics somewhere, I'll be only too glad to put them in. I'll probably run through the whole thread again at some point too, see if I can pick up any images that have reappeared.

Edit: In the meantime, the full list of posts which have their images missing is at http://xkcdsw.com/missing.

This. Had. To be done.

On a similar note, the 2008-09 recession was certainly caused by the overproduction of decline graphs.

One usability issue I found with your site: When using Browse by Author or Browse by Source, if I click on a comic and then click Back, it takes me to the first author/source on the list, rather than taking me to the author/source I was just viewing (thus making it more difficult to view all comics by a particular author/from a particular source).

Two9A wrote:Edit: In the meantime, the full list of posts which have their images missing is at http://xkcdsw.com/missing.
Have you checked to make sure that none of the ones on that list are actually on the site under a different number due to the author re-uploading them to the thread? (I vaguely remember something like that being true a long time ago, but I'm not completely certain.)

Just post them in here, or put them in a PM to me. As long as you say they're old images for re-inclusion, and not new ones to tack on the end, I'll put them in place.

chridd wrote:Have you checked to make sure that none of the ones on that list are actually on the site under a different number due to the author re-uploading them to the thread?
I don't recall anything of that kind happening, but I've checked the list of duplicate-named comics (there are two 'Abstraction's by yourself, for example), and comics with duplicate alt-text. They all seem to be different, and not exact duplicates; if you come across any in your travels, let me know.

chridd wrote:When using Browse by Author or Browse by Source, if I click on a comic and then click Back, it takes me to the first author/source on the list, rather than taking me to the author/source I was just viewing (thus making it more difficult to view all comics by a particular author/from a particular source).
Mm, I noticed myself when using it recently that it does that. I've got a workaround plotted in my head, but it's a matter of implementation; I'll see what I can do.

Much thanks; there are now "only" 162 missing comics. You probably need an R-axis on your Dow graph, unless it's sitting at 210 or so today. I've no idea what the actual figure is, but it's probably higher.
