My xkcd shirt finally came in today!

For those interested, it's the "Stand back! I'm going to try science!" shirt... and I'm excited because I always get poked fun at for approaching things so scientifically. :)

I got a new phone yesterday that is so sexy that I tried to have sex with it. I also cut off all of my hair.

I just moved into my dorm for the first time. The bad part about it is that where I'm going to school it's in the 100F range of temperature and I'm having to make walks all around campus.

My writer's block has gone and I've managed to write two pages of this young adult-sci-fi stuff I've been working on, all of which I'm dreadfully happy with.

Also, Heroes is on tonight, episode 4. Win.

I sent a 4"x6" card to PostSecret.

Half of me hopes it never sees the website or book, other half hopes to the higher powers that it sees both. We'll see.

Dropping that in the big blue box was incredibly liberating. Made my day, really.

Congrats!!

As for me... I gave blood! At first they didn't think my vein was big enough, but it worked. I haven't donated in a while and this also made it so I didn't have to work for like an hour (after which, lunchtime!) so that was fun. Plus I get iodine-y arms and a potential to help up to three people. ^_^

Sweet! I gave blood last week. I like doing it, but for somewhat selfish reasons. I see it as the charity I don't have to pay for.

Does that make me a bad person?

There's nothing bad about giving. And reworded to make it sound better. ;-)

Speaking of charity one can afford, did you know that it costs $52 - $96 to join the bone marrow registry? There are some organizations that will cover the cost, but still. I'd like to be a donor, but I'm poor.

Holy crapsticks. That's a lot. Why is it so high? Are you paying them to take stuff out? Err.

I started to donate because it was convenient at my HS and I really wanted to know what blood type I was. Very simple (A+ by the way). Then I realized that it really is a good thing, and way more effective than shelling out coins to the Salvation Army Santa. So... I don't think it matters what your motive is, as long as you do it.

The website when I originally checked it said, "Your tissue type is used to match you to patients. Your tissue type is identified by testing a sample of your blood or cheek cells. The amount you may be asked to pay for tissue typing ranges from $52 to $96, depending on where and how you join."

The current version says, "When you join the NMDP Registry, you may or may not be asked to pay the costs of your tissue typing. Costs depend on resources and support available. Your tissue type is used to match you to patients and is identified by testing a sample of your blood or cheek cells. On average, the tissue typing to add each new donor to our Registry costs $52."

Whoa. I'll stick with blood for now, thanks. Although tissue matching kinda sounds like fun. Anyway.

Forgot to add that I finally found the last in a series of books I've been looking for (K-PAX, yay dorkiness) and it is shipping from the UK next week! Whee!!! I've heard it isn't so good but the compulsion to fulfill the trilogy beat that out. Thank you, Border's salesman who recommended abebooks.com!

Alright, I'm done being a commercial for blood & books now.

it contained a picture of one of the pallet jacks where he works (home depot) painted kitten pink. the message read:

"i got bored at work today so i spraypainted the warehouse guys' Pallet jack pink. Tomorrow I'm going to stencil a hello kitty face on the largest part. They are going to be so pissed on monday"
