Wanna Go To Stanford... For Free?

Postby Mighty Jalapeno » Thu Sep 18, 2008 4:19 pm UTC

Well, now you can!

Stanford University will soon begin offering a series of 10 free, online computer science and electrical engineering courses. Initial courses will provide an introduction to computer science and an introduction to field of robotics, among other topics. The courses, offered under the auspices of Stanford Engineering Everywhere (SEE),are nearly identical to standard courses offered to registered Stanford students and will comprise downloadable video lectures, handouts, assignments, exams, and transcripts. And get this: all the courses' materials are being released under the Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license."

Wow. I remember MIT doing something similar to this, I believe it was called Open Courseware? Either way, it looks like a great thing.

....Anyone else disappointed? :?

I mean, that's cool and all... but I was expecting something... different, I guess.
...It made more sense in my head.

I took a few hours to listen to the first few lectures in the Fourier class. It's not bad at all. I'm going to keep going with it.

Take off that red shirt!

On a more serious note, that's pretty cool. Even though it's considered "sleeping with the enemy," it's still very educational nonetheless.

This is really awesome, though useless to me. For, I have neglected on getting a decent mathematical education, and though I now regret it, there's not much I can do about it. I'm sure these will all be far too advanced to give me anything worth knowing, but, it is a great idea for sure. I hope schools will continue such a trend. Unlikely will that happen, however.
Hi, love!

Might be a bit late but THANK YOU SO MUCH.

They have intro programming courses in there. I don't think I EVER would've gotten to an Intro Programming course on my own now I've finished undergraduate school. I totally just wrote a program. It is freaking awesome. It is a tiny and useless program but it is freaking awesome nonetheless. :D This is EXACTLY the sort of thing I needed to find; thanks!

Here's a link to MIT's Open Courseware. Also an excellent resource.
All is well. We are not like the others.
