Naming your car

Postby chipbeef9109 » Tue Dec 30, 2008 10:35 pm UTC

Hey everyone. I finally got my license at the beginning of December, along with a car shortly thereafter. I'd like to name my car, but have no idea what to name it. I need some ideas.

So, what did you name your vehicle, and why?

A colloquial hard working womans name.

Scotland: Morag.
Yorkshire: Betsy.
Southern US: Bertha.

I have a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. It's a darker shade of red.

3fj, I would call it Bertha even though I live in Ohio and not the South, but I feel Bertha's way overused. And a little too redneck for me. No offense to anyone that reads this that may have named theirs Bertha O_o

Opposite-gender name to yours, if possible the name should start with the same letter as the reg licence plate.

I don't know if there are any feminine forms of "Spencer," though...

Sorry, I was unclear. If you are male, the car's name should be female. You want a girl's name beginning with an S, by that method.

This is me and my car, Petra. She's a 1994 Buick LeSabre, named after Petra Arkanian from Ender's Game. It's my habit to take names from whatever I'm reading at the time.Image

My car is a dark green 2003 Chevy Cavalier taht I got for Christmas last year, and her name is Zuzu. We were discussing what to name it, and my mom's boyfriend said he named his Volkswagon bus Bert the Turtle Bus (because it's big green and slow). We started talking about It's a Wonderful Life, and my mom mentioned that I played Zuzu in a play version at the highschool, so that's my car's name.

Offtopic: I got a laptop this year, and named it Clarence, after the angel from the same movie. 8D

The names of my family's cars from newest to oldest

Baloo (from the Jungle book, because the car is blue)
Fiona (Shrek came out recently)
Pearl (My mom's car, I don't like the name)
Voldemort (We are Harry Potter fans and couldn't come up with a name, it was the car we could not name)
Simon (My mom's car, I don't like the name)
Ms. Vickey
George (after curious George)

Our family has a tendency to name cars after fictional characters.

When I gained possession of my car, I named him "Dents." Dents survived a horrible hailstorm when he was young. Fun fact: Dents is legally dead - AKA an insurance agent viewed him after the storm and declared him a total loss. I think not!

My RC car's name is Rafael, because I got the one with a red body and frequency crystal.

I never named my car, but I talk to it all the time, especially coaxing it up the hill in a foot of snow. It's a good widdle boy. :D

I also cluck to it (like you would to a horse) haha.

If you get another car, will you call it Dick Darlington?

I'd prefer to name it after something that reflects how the car looks, and something about my personality. I still haven't figured on a good name yet. I often called my old car Kuribo's Shoe, but with my new car, I want another similar-geeky name. It's a silver Corolla, so I want something related to the color as well.

Best name I heard for a car was a friend's white pickup truck that he called White Zombie, by the way. KF

Also, my friend had a beat up old Kia named Nancy, after she from Oliver Twist. Another friend named her car Crenshaw, which simply sounds about right.

I've always been fond of naming a car after notable drivers or engineers. In the case of Beefychip's Jetta, I'd be rather fond of Jutta.

STRONG LEIK DIESEL.
FEMININE FOR SMOOTHEN LINEZ.
IS RALLY DRIVER. GUDH LINEAGE.

My original vehicle was the Turbovan - because it had a turbocharger... and was a van.

My replacement vehicle was the Shaggin' Wagon - because it was a van and had a fucking bed in it.

My replacement replacement vehicle has not yet been named, primarily because I tend to think of it as an extension of myself, rather than a distinct entity.

Turbovan was replaced with the Shaggin' Wagon in high school, but it was old. This was replaced with their dad's Turbowagon (VW) and eventually, everyone just got K Cars.

Wussies.

The Shaggin Wagon had blue shag interior and serious death-trap swivelling seats, AND a bed.

Mine was a custom-converted '88 GMC Vandura 2500. Seated 7, featured a gigantic 4" Color TV with a VCR slung under the bed at the back and *MOOD LIGHTING*

We named my friends truck Carlos. Then another person added "the Crushinator" after that because he thought Carlos wasn't fierce enough. I can't think of a name for my truck, but other people have called it Rachel.
