Nothing creative, but...

We had a full-size maroon Ford Falcon station wagon when we were in Australia. (Ford still uses the Falcon brand there.) We bought it just before our twins were born--specifically, when we finally stopped deluding ourselves into thinking that our little Mazda 121's back seat was big enough for one child car seat plus two infant capsules :)

One day I jokingly called our station wagon "the Big Red Car" in reference to the kajillion Wiggles cassettes and videos we had at the time.

The name stuck.

My family never named cars, but they had titles.
The big white van (ford e350)
The little green van (sold) (plymoth voyager)
The green bike (sold) (honda cm400)
The dirt bike (honda xl100)
The dually (sold) (1973 1ton chevy pickup)

My friends have a similar pattern.
Cody has the bat-jetta which is currently dead (I think he bat-dropped-the-clutch too bat-fucking-much)
Weston has the tank-jeep, and I'm the only one who calls it that (it has a beastly 5.2 v8)
Josh has the Yota (common name, but whatever)

I have yet to think of a name for my jeep. It usually gets called "the jeep", but that's not very fun. I'd like a name for it that reflects the fact that it might die tomorrow, but I still trust it to get me anywhere.

Huh, I did not know that the Falcon was built in the US as well. How 'bout that.

I thought "Old Faithful" when I first read of hack's jeep. Well, it's going to go up in a cloud of steam someday, eh?

My husband and I named our red 2003 PT cruiser Lola. We spun out and hit a guard rail on a cross country trip and have since been fond of saying "Lola can sure take a hit."

My car is called the Time Machine.
It's a very, very slow time machine that only goes forwards in time.

Isn't it standard practice to name and refer to machines as female? Sailors refer to their ship as "her", or "she", and whatnot. Doesn't it apply to cars, tanks, and other things like that?

In the past I've named my car based on the letters in the license plate:
LC - Lucy
XN - Xena
LH - Lilith (My truck is still Lilith even though she has a different license plate now... I couldn't bring myself to change the name!)

Letters on my plate are UIM...

I can't think of any names with those off the top of my head.

Yeah I guess I seem to follow the pattern of titles rather than names.

My first car was a blue '96 GMC Yukon: the blue beast.
My first new car was a black 2000 Chevy Prism : the black bitch (it only got that name after i replaced the radiator a very costly repair).
My current car is a blue 2008 Toyota Yaris (3 door): the ice skate (because it's shaped like the boot portion of a skate and i live in Wisconsin where we have ice/snow on the ground for at least 4 months out of most years).

Oh the joys of car naming, here are a collect from my own and my friends cars:

94 Geo Prism - The GeoMonster
91 Mecury Tracer - The Streak (grey and help together with duct tape)
94 Chevy S10 - The SlimeDime (it was green)
92 Eagle Talon - The Grey Ghost
??? - Ethel (she was old)
98? Ford Ranger - Truckie
70 Chevelle - The Beast / The Mistress (Or that money sucking piece of... depends on its mood at the time)

And yes, naming cars is rather normal, I think it has to do with the personality (and is far better than my friend who named her breasts Gertrude and Pearl... who knows...)

Dark Grey 2007 VW Golf [Rabbit in the US?] Named Kaspar. Because I like the name, it's German (like the car) and I can never use Caspar or any of its variations for children due to that damn friendly ghost.

It's opposite gender but doesn't start with the first letter of the licence plate :P kind of hard when the first letter is U, try getting something from UUA.

My friend has a Vectra called Elliot, she insisted I name my car otherwise they couldn't talk to each other in the carpark XD

I wish to purchase this vehicle.

I had a 94 Mazda Protege with about 240,000 miles on it that my friend dubbed "The Little Beast" because you could make the tires slip if you got on the gas before she had come to a full stop, and he thought it was an hilarious little burnout.

Haha that reminded me of a wall in our house - it has a whole bunch of our photos that either my Mom or I took, and when we were hanging them we kept miss-measuring to line things up to look okay. So we have a lot of nail holes behind the photos...and we call it our Holy Wall. heehee. It turned out nice though.

Oh and the main point I wanted to post in here - I could use a name idea for my car...'01 red Mercury Grand Marquis. Most people are like "eww you have a big boat" or "eww that's a granny car". Um...okay maybe. But it is a) extreemly comfortable to ride in, both seat-wise and as far as ride smoothness and b) it is very reliable and c) it does very well on wet icy snowy road conditions we get here and d) I drive about 60 miles round trip every day on a pretty nutty highway and it has a great crash test rating...I have metal around me should I get creamed going 70-75 mph.

I would suggest giving it a name that has no explanation, and looking at people inquisitively when they ask why it's named that, as if they should know. Because you might have fun with that.

I don't have a car, but I keep insiting that my brother lets me put green flame decalls on the side of his car (it already looks stupid, being bright yellow, so the decalls would only make it look more awesome) and call it the Felmobile/Legiomobile.

As in the city in California? But that's pretty good actually, and the 'saus' part makes me think of sauce -> tomato sauce which is red. I like it! I'm making it an "a" though so it sounds feminine :) Plus it sounds spanish-is so making it "a" would be feminine over the "o" ending if I remember my limited spanish correctly.

Henceforth my car shall be known as Sausalitia!
