Asploding the mind readers' heads

Postby podbaydoor » Sat Jan 03, 2009 10:45 pm UTC

In the vein of http://xkcd.com/525/:

So what's your annoying, irritating pop song of choice to play in your head in a loop every time you start suspecting someone's reading your mind?

Lately, it's been the Beyonce single "Single Ladies." I've definitely used the classic "Milk and Cereal" in the past, though.

Whoever was reading my mind in the summer of 2004, I hope you got to know Dvorak's "New World Symphony" as well as I did...¬¬

I think I value my personal sanity enough to never resort to that. Surely nothing is worth thinking of Beyonce for?

"Single Ladies" actually isn't that bad. I like the little 8-bit trill in the background.

...on second thought, this probably means I should think of a song that's more annoying, since it sort of defeats the whole purpose now.

Do you think "Jizz in my Pants" would work, or would it just serve to entertain the telepaths?

I guess I'd use the refrain from 'Fuck a Dog' then (that being the only bit I've heard.)

It should either spawn revulsion or giggling.
Anything I said pre-2014 that you want to quote me on, just run it past me to check I still agree with myself.

Most mind readers would probably have been driven nuts by the constant stream of JPop, techno and/or chiptunes long ago. :P

Personally, I just picture a brick wall, and nothing else. So the mind reader is forced to stare at a brick wall which, unless they are a brick wall enthusiast, they will most likely find quite boring and eventually leave.

I made a point to burn all of the photographs,
She went away and then I took a different path,
I remember the face but I can't recall the name,
Now I wonder how Whatsername has been.

I do this all the time. Although I guess it's not too far a stretch to think a telepath might also happen to speak some Spanish...

Also, if anyone happened to be reading my mind two winters ago, they were treated to a nonstop cycle of songs from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. That ought to discourage anyone.
A good pun is its own reword.

I WOULD try to do something horrible, like play Macarena, Numa Numa, the Ketchup song... Maybe that Boombastic by SHaggy. WHatever to fend off an intruder. Unfortunately, I wouldn't stand it myself and end up in a fetal position or something. I think Namidaboshi by Puppypet - the ending theme of Black Cat, ought to scare someone. Then there's doing a ricky roll (Harr harr, pun of my name~). And, uhm, otherwise whatever is in my iPod could prove useful. I hear a lot of people don't like accordions - thank you for making my intruders Tier'd. <3

Disneyland. The "It's a small world" ride.

I was comatose for about a week after disembarking that 10 minute long log flume torture device, constantly singing that song.

EDIT: it might not have been disneyland. It was in Paris somewhere.

See, the point is to choose a song that's very catchy and annoying. Catchy so you don't have much trouble replaying it in your head several or many times, and annoying to give the mind reader a headache.

To this end, JPop is very appropriate, but a lot of things from the Britney Spears or 'N Sync oeuvre work as well, the earlier the better. Though, "It's a Small World" is a bit of brilliance I haven't thought of. Really, any earworm will work. I've developed a tolerance to earworms (and I love music) so my sanity is okay for now.

Ooh, here's one: Souja Boy Tell 'Em. Guaranteed to drive them off screaming.

Even better, the a cappella version of the Katamari Damacy theme with the aggressively cheerful soloist.

I take it back about Soulja Boy. That would drive me insane first.

i was talking to one of my friends about this. we figured that song from the lizzie mcguire (don't care if that's spelt wrong) movie this is what dreams are made of would do the trick. i started to sing it loudly as we were walking down the road and she tried to kill me, she hadn't slept for two days, but none the less that still proves the powers of that song.

damn and now i have it stuck in my head...
have you ever seen such a beautiful night?
have you ever seen the stars shining so bright?
when i see you smiling i go oh-oh-oh
and in my heart i know what this is.

another good song 'Slip, Slop, Slap'

I figure that if I just start thinking about real analysis, the mind readers will drift away quickly enough.

But if I had to choose some piece of music, it would be this one, which is also one of the very few substances powerful enough to remove "It's a Small World After All" from one's head.

anyone reading my mind has long since been driven insane by the constant barrage of different songs, ranging from "I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves" to ZZ Tops' "Cheap Sunglasses". Nobody could withstand that wide of a range. I've also sung down to about 40 on the song "99 bottles of beer on the wall".
