The Things You Carry

Postby Jacque » Thu Jan 15, 2009 3:07 am UTC

I find it incredibly interesting what different people carry with them on their day-to-day.

The following is what I carry with me most often, to class, to my studio, and for the most part everywhere I go. Items 5, 9, and 11 stay in whatever pack I'm carrying about, the rest go in my pockets.

What do you carry?

Seriously. I'd need 10 pairs of pants for all that.
I just carry a wallet with pretty much every card I've ever owned, a flash drive, a tube of chapstick and a pen and pencil. Maybe my mp3 player if the pockets are big enough.
...that's awkward.

I can't even carry that much in my pockets, and I'm usually in jeans a size too big. At most I can stuff a thin wallet and a cellphone in my back pockets.

The rest goes in my backpack or purse: flash drives, folder with looseleaf, pens and pencils, emergency Jolly Ranchers, keys, laptop (sometimes), tissues, emergency tampons, planner, reporter's notebook.

On my person:
Wallet ($0-$40, includes housekey)
Cell phone
Glasses stay on face
And sometimes a car key.

I carry little.
Been reading the book? In that vein, the only thing that I carry that is meaningful to me is the wallet itself. I made myself it out of a computer keyboard, and it's lasted almost a year now.

Right pocket: Wallet, lip chap, utility knife if I'm not going to be going into any schools.
Back left pocket: Tissues.
Back right pocket: Reserved for trash.
Wallet: Money, sticky notes, pen, pencil, eraser, various cards, bus pass, breath freshening strips.
Backpack: Laptop (if I'm going somewhere I'll use it), various cables, more tissues, deodorant, silverware, can opener, FM transmitter, Bluetooth stereo transmitter, pens, pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener, white-out tape, sharpie, Tylenol, Pepto Bismol, cough syrup, AA and AAA batteries, spare bus tickets, comb, bus map, and probably a bunch more junk I'm forgetting.

Cell, Keys, Wallet! Keeping it simple. I hate sitting with tons of things in my pockets, especially change. Someone needs to invent a manly bag. Hmmm.. actually maybe one of those netbook bags.

Coat Pockets: Keys/Flashlight/USB Drive (on lanyard), iPod, Little Moleskine Notebook (inside pocket)

Pants pockets: Three BIC mechanical pencils, one white eraser, cell phone, wallet.

Satchel: Moleskine Sketchbook (for drawing), Moleskine Journal (for journaling), cheep sketchbook (for maths and diagrams and notes), cheap notebook (for business things I don't want mixed up in my journal), 11x14" pad of Bristol board (Plate, for drawing), gloves/hat/scarf when appropriate, camera, pack of playing cards, bag of change.

This tends to be pretty standard, and goes with me everywhere.

10. About half of current crochet project that has been completed so far.
11. Hair tie.

19. House keys. Note that my house key doesn't fit in the door.
20. Panadol.

22. Tape measure. It winds itself up.
23. Pen.

Wallet, keys, and phone pretty much always. Often a small pocketknife or multi-tool, for utility, not defense (I wouldn't want to try using a Swiss Army knife for defense.)

I'm planning on getting my CCW permit sometime this year or next, and I would probably carry anywhere where a gun would be allowed (in other words, I wouldn't be carrying if I was going to the bank to deposit a paycheck or the plasma donation center.)

Yay, I love this thread! <3

I usually carry things in my pockets (Both in my pants' as well as sweaters'/jackets'), so yay. When at school, I got more stuff with me, in my backpack.

I always carry my cell - Nokia N95. It has a neat camera~
My iPod always accompany me. Nano 4G 16GB version.
I have a pouch (Koss headset thingie) with:
- - My keys - house, garage, bike... And then a LED flashlight/laser hooked onto it.
- - Some pens.
- - Some markers
- - A thumbdrive - 2GB.
In my wallet, there's:
- - Bus card
- - Credit card (not really. Bank card?)
- - Student verification
- - A "youes owe me" note
- - Money, between $30-$40 USD (200-300 NOK)
- - Some receipts for lots of stuff
- - - - An old train ticket
At school, in my backpack, I have:
- - (Note)books for school
- - A private doodling/idea notebook
- - Calc-u-later
- - Pens, erasers etc.
- - Headache pills, just in case
- - A couple of books for reading (Currently "Menn som hater kvinner "(Men Who Hate Women) and "Jenta som lekte med ilden" (The Girl Who Played With Fire) by Stieg larsson~ <33)

And, uhm, that's about it. I ought to get a lighter and a pocket knife. And a taser or something.

Keys (to apartment, car, parents', mailbox)
More keys (work)
Cellphone
Pen
Random notes (remember doctor's appointment! Here's a cheque etc.)
Mint drops
B12 pills (which I should take a bit more of...)
Random medication I need (steroid eye drops, artificial tear drops, antibiotic for steroid eye drops)
Lip balm (in winter)
That no-water-needed hand soap thing
Sunglasses (in case with small towel)
Book (always)
Right now, Japanese folder and instruction book
Starting from today, a notebook to write a food diary (good luck to me!)
Wallet.

Wallet contains:
Israeli money
About 150 euros (I really need to leave them at home...)
Two credit cards (about to cancel one)
A note with a psychologist's phone number (I went to him for a while about two years ago, didn't use the note yet)
A gift coupon, a list of places where I get a discount when using my credit card, some more doctor's appointments reminders
Many, many plastic cards:
Reserve soldier ID
Subscription for movie theater (probably expired)
Organ donor card
Subscription for video library (also expired, probably)
Permit to get inside a building where I do reserves
Permit to enter my base where I do reserves
Fast passport checking at the airport card (really need to put that in my passport...)
Student ID card (no longer a student...)
Driver's license
Health maintenance organization
IDF Air Force Auxiliary Air Crew ID (says blood type is O+)

In conclusion - I need to clean up my wallet.
Mighty Jalapeno: "See, Zohar agrees, and he's nice to people."

I'm not sure why you'd need a lighter unless you're a smoker or pyromaniac... a little keychain LED light would be enough to find the lock on the side of your car in a dark area or something like that. I have a little miniature Leatherman (not that brand, but it's the same thing, really) multi-tool I carry nearly everywhere with me. They're incredibly useful for just about anything.

Spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch...

Uh, there's usually only four things in my pocket: wallet, keys, iPhone and work ID card. Keys have USB drive attached to them. Business attire doesn't lend itself to a multitude of pockets, unfortunately, especially so in summer.

So it's like a ribbon dance. Only the ribbons are on fire.

Does he carry the ribbon things with him, too, or just the lighters?

Jeans pocket:
-phone (Sony Ericsson K770i)
Coat pockets:
-iPod (Silver 80GB Classic)
-gloves
Bag:
-Keys (if I'm at uni, fob to get into the building and key to get into the flat and my room, with Chester Zoo keychain with a penguin in it and a Nightline loop thing; if I'm at home, front door key with electronic bubble wrap)
-Assorted little tins (Carmex (normal and cherry SPF 15), hand cream, solid perfume)
-Ibuprofen
-Sudafed
-Somewhere between 2 and 10 pens (I think it's 7 at the moment?)
-tissues
-old train tickets
-pads and/or tampons
-tube of Carmex
-Purse (£10-£20 cash, 2 debit cards, railcard, organ donor card, 2 library cards, student card, DSU gold card, NIN card, EHIC, park and ride card)

Um, probably assorted other stuff as well. This changes if I'm going to a lecture...this is just my normal bag for generally leaving the house.

I think I've slowly drifted into a rather minimalist stance on carrying things.
I used to carry everything I could fit in my pockets...

Now, daily I take with me:
-Knife
-mp3 Player
-Cellphone (if it has minutes on it)
-Wallet
-Sunglasses
-Pack of cigarertes (If I have any)
-Pack of cigars (If I have any)
-Lighter
-Housekeys
-... I think that's it.
