Fairly sure i'm gonna do an iPod commercial after finding it on flickr somewhere. Bright card on back + black clothes, my cheap uni budget might come out on top.

That or zombie Suggs (i.e. Madness), seeing as I own pretty much everything except the make-up for that.

My Halloween Costume

Postby hackthat » Thu Nov 05, 2009 9:21 am UTC

I thought some people would find this interesting/get ideas from it.
My roommate, friend, and I taped glow-necklaces to ourselves to be stick figures for Halloween in Isla Vista (by UCSB). I was black-hat-guy.
No one recognized me from the comic, but everyone loved our costumes. Girls ran up to us wanting to take pictures with us.
Good times.

When you turn around in the video it ruins the effect.

that's brilliant! Did you take any pictures with the lights on so we can see where you put the glowsticks?

edit: also funny, the stick-penis that is created when the body-stick is too long.

Well, you look positively suave in that photo, as if you're about to lift your hat and say "good day, madam" to a passing Victorian lady. Although your eyebrows look creepy.

Here's a day time version. Not as cool as the night time version, but it was still fun! The hard part was keeping our heads on all night. Without the heads, it was difficult to tell what/who we were.

So, I've been told that tomorrow (Saturday) evening yet another one of my sister's friends is having an 18th birthday party. This being the night of the day I come back up from Cambridge I don't exactly have time to prepare. The theme I'm told is "come dressed as a music artist/group/band etc." - not impersonation, rather a costume symbolising the name of the act - and just felt like running some ideas by you guys as to which would be most epic. Examples I was given by my dad were: 'Arab-style headtowel + photos of Steve Redgrave and Stephen Gerrard = Sheikh-in' Stevens', 'compass + Moses costume = The Lost Prophets.'

Essentially the social sphere concerned with this gathering I have no qualms with screwing them around with obscure references, so I was thinking...
- grab a cheap plain white T-shirt and black marker pen, scribble on the front a mock-up of St. Paul's Letter to the Corinthians, on the back a largish lightning bolt, to represent Paul & Storm
- similar route with a cheap ass-white T-shirt; representing Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain, I'll overload it with suitable WoW iconography, like scribbling <The Tauren Chieftains> for example
- I have a few Star Wars t-shirts, but I need something draconic to do Dragon Force - any ideas?
- Yellow facepaint + devil horns/trident/stuff for Lemon Demon?

I apologise if you are no doubt facepalming this costume party concept and the puns involved, but yeah, I in no way chose the theme :p

As I like puns I'll give you some more or less obvious suggestions

A hammer + a pair of sturdy tongs. Go around and hit something invisible. - Aerosmith
A crown(plastic of otherwise) and a wig - Queen
Dress up as a police - The Police (Who would have guessed!)
Dress up in dark purple clothes- Deep Purple
Bring some wood craft tools - The Carpenters
Radio taped to your head - Radiohead
Dye your hair blonde - Blondie
Plastic guns + a bunch of roses - Guns n' Roses

Now excuse me while I go weep.

Well, when I returned home, I realised I had a 3ft tall giant Spyro the Dragon plush toy, so I pulled off Dragonforce with that Star Wars t-shirt.

There were plenty of Simply Reds, four girls doing The Police, two in ape suits for Gorillaz.

So our college yearbook pictorials are coming up soon, and there's this "creative shot" part where we're allowed to dress as whatever we want as long as we provide our own props. Now I'm interested in going as something that's recognizably geeky and original without being too obscure or morally objectionable (i.e. something that I can show to both my classmates and my grandparents).

I think I have a month or so to prepare, but being swamped with school I may not be able to get everything I need for my get-up. So far I've had a bunch of cop-out ideas, a bunch of overly-ambitious ones, and only a couple of viable-but-not-yet-doable ones. Also, apparently get-ups like "musician", "baby doll", "Lara Croft", "picture frame/cellphone/iPod/anything with a screen" etc. are cliches at these things. We are allowed to dress in the usual casual attire for this, but really wanted an excuse to dress up :P

These are the ones I'm leaning towards, followed by related issues/problems:

1. Lady Justice (or the Zodiac sign Libra, if you prefer) - the robes and blindfold are doable, my biggest problem would be making a set of scales from scratch and possibly finding a sword not made of plastic on short notice.
2. Comic book geek - dress normally (glasses and all) and maybe hold a comic book. As you can probably guess, one of my "cop-out" ideas.
3. "Hot Librarian" - also a cop-out, one my friends keep pushing me toward for some reason.
4. I thought of borrowing my brother's hospital scrubs, finding an IV and a skullcap and going as a cancer patient, but that might be too offensive.
5. I can whip out my Guy Fawkes mask and be a /b/tard, but too many people here wouldn't get it. Plus my face has to actually be visible in the shot.
6. Borderline cop-out: I can go the patriotic route and go as Maria Clara or Juan de la Cruz. There's still the issue of procuring supplies though.

So... any other ideas?
"Yes, my life is pathetic. But I still prefer it to the alternative!"

Hey guys. I'm going to a rush dinner next week and it's going to be a "Mafia" theme. The Sorority has a lot of girl-girl types, but with some geeky tendencies.

I'm a girl of a fairly average weight decent build.I can always do dress pants, a cute dress top, my pea coat, and a fedora; but that seems a bit plain and uninspired.

Any fun ideas?
I don't watch 24 hour news channels because they are retarded.

Get some concrete shoes and go as a victim. Maybe stick a drill bit through your knee.

going as a hobo is pretty easy. i did it a few years ago with a few buddies, wore all my crappy ripped clothing and smeared dirt and black eyeshadow all over my face. even gave myself a black eye with eyeliner (that didn't come off so well....)

last year i went as an agent of the USDKYA (black tanktop and pants, then raided my friend's closet for a black fedora, long black jacket, aviators, etc). it was epic.

the year before i went as my favorite baseball player (alex gordon, 3B for the royals) with the jersey and hat and my softball pants and socks and cleats and glove and even the 5 o'clock shadow. i answered the door for one of 3 trick-or-treaters we got and the dad asked if i was george brett. *sigh* i never win.
I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you.

I think it'd be fun to get fifteen friends and go as the Colossi from Shadow of the Colossus. Some of them would be really hard to make costumes for, but it'd still be epic.

I've got another anime convention coming up in August. My main idea for the moment is the Shinigami from Soul Eater, but a secondary idea that occured to me yesterday is going as The Spy from TF2, but with a paper mask of some anime character.
