Do a black rim around the white of the eyes. And make the holes/dots a little bigger.

Looking good thus far.

This is what it looks like on my face.

It's not brilliant, but I reckon it is at least instantly recognisable as The Zoid.

I've had to improvise for now, using folded-over cellotape to attach the eyes, which won't hold for very long. Does anyone have any suggestions on a more permanent way to attach the eyes? Cos the only idea I have right now is blue-tack.

There are glues which are designed to stick stuff onto fabric. I would recommend one of them.

Are you hand-sewing or machine sewing it?

It looks really good so far.

For the eyes, stitch them on using some white thread.

What should I dress as? (Costume party suggestions)

Postby Meowgan » Sun May 17, 2009 10:22 am UTC

So, I'm going to a costume party in July. The theme is supernatural.

I need suggestions, since the only things I can think of are Angels, Demons, FSM and Raptor Jesus.

Gogogo. Also, if anyone needs ideas or advice on making things, this is probably a good place to post it.

Remember: I am Megan and I can make anything. I have a decent amount of time, so just about anything is possible.

I'm really behind the angel idea, if only because I wanted to do it but never got around to it.

Hand sewing, but making damn sure my shoddy stitching is not visible.

Edit: I just realised the queen of needlework said it looks good. Thanks, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

I'm not sure anything could top FSM or Raptor Jesus. I'd say go with FSM.

And remember, pics or it didn't happen. :D

True, but I imagine that everyone else would go as an angel too. And having the same costume as someone else is just not on.

Hmmm, if everyone else is being angels, then yes, you can't go as one.

This does need to be mentioned:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supernatural_(TV_series)

If you have time, you should just watch all 4 seasons. Yes, because there are some pretty cool monsters etc you could dress as, but mostly because it's just awesome and you should watch it. Oh, and also Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. OM NOM NOM

Athe.

I am annoyed noone mentioned her here, yet.

As for supernatural.... The first season or two was alright. It was pretty godawful by season 3 and i stopped watching though. That was about the time i stopped watching tv altogether, though, basically. I also do not find those guys as attractive as you girls do, though.

Also, that Zoidberg costume looks great! Is it dumpster-diving proof? He did quite a lot of that :)

Twould possibly bend the cardboard having it held down in only some parts with thread?

Megan is obviously the undisputed queen of knitting on this fora. I don't see why it should be different anywhere else.

Wait, are Zoidberg's eyes blue? I know most of the character's eyes are white, but I think there are a few exceptions--I can't remember if Zoidberg is one of them or not.

A ridiculously simple Google Image search would reveal Zoidberg's eyes are indeed white.

Also, surely PVA glue would suffice for glueing the eyes onto fabric?

I've already stitched the eyes on near the centre. You can just about see the stitches in this photo:

Spoiler:

There's a niggling little problem that I can't see straight ahead when I have the mask on. I can't think of an immediately obvious way to fix this, so I may well have to make do with monocular vision while wearing it. (Since I can't wear my glasses with it on, I can't see anything anyway, so no loss :P )

Next step will be the two claws. Once those are done, I can start looking for a white lab coat and green/blue scrubs. And a stethoscope to hang around the neck. Hope to get the claws done by next weekend.

Go as a Jumbie, then or something equally obscure (they're a bit like Caribbean evil elves). Red eyes, feet that either turn backwards or disappear into smoke (according to Edward Lear, blue hands and green heads, but our Jumbies don't tend to be like that)

There are two things I'm most interested in seeing.

1) The Claws

2) The Sandals, the sandals are probably the most important feature of Doctor Zoidberg to me. They make him who he is.

Also...face is looking pretty sweet so far, I was giddy with laughter when I saw it on you.

As long as you split the toe part down the middle.
Just cut and sew, about 2-3 toes in.

I also vote for FSM. Especially if it's the kind of party where people would actually get what it's meant to be - but even if not, it'd still be a hilarious costume.
