Ipod Engraving?

Postby mstrzerg » Sat Feb 28, 2009 11:19 pm UTC

So I'm thinking I'm going to buy an Ipod Touch from the Apple Store and I see that they will do a free text engraving on the back. I'm looking for a good quote or something to put on there. I had looked up a few quotes from the likes of Einstein and Feynman, but nothing jumped out. Anyone have their Ipods or electronic gadgetry engraved with anything cool?

Also, anyone have any favorite apps for the Touch? I am considering installing an offline version of wikipedia on there. And will probably Jailbreak the thing for fun and profit. My plans don't go far beyond that since really I just want something I can check my email with on lunch breaks and look other things up when I'm on the go, heck even the musical capabilities of it are secondary to me.

Phone number is better than an address. People in their late teens to late 20s tend to keep their cell phones longer than they stay at any one place.

Agreed that phone number is a better way to go in that instance. I have my camera put my name and phone number in the exif data of my pictures in case I lose it. Not sure I want to put my name and phone number on the back though. While useful it hasn't quite got the 'cool' effect I'm hoping for :)

A little obvious, perhaps, but "Don't Panic"?

Hmmm. That should have been obvious. That is a definite possibility.

Thanks for that iPod idea, mstrzerg. -Steve Jobs

Not sure if they'll willingly engrave that one, though.

How about Social Security No.? It could always be tracked back to you. Plus, if a lot of funny checks start being written in your name, at least you know somebody found your ipod!

My iPod is always in it's case, so no one will ever read it anyways.

The number of letters/numbers you can put in are very limited. I just put in

Lost By <My Name>
<My e-mail address>

I don't plan to change my e-mail any time soon, so that might be better than address/phone number. I just feel better with the prima facie seal of ownership in case it gets stolen.

"It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes."
Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001)

or: "Life? Don't talk to me about life!"

"Artificial Intelligence is no match for natural stupidity."
"If somebody thinks they're a hedgehog, presumably you just give 'em a mirror and a few pictures of hedgehogs and tell them to sort it out for themselves." - Douglas Adams

To bad you can only use 255 characters, otherwise I would write somethin

These.

Also, I remember something along the lines of "By making something idiot-proof, you challenge God to make better idiots". Do I remember who said it? No.

My parents bought me an iPod for my birthday a few years ago, with the engraving "Non est ad astra mollis e terries via." Maybe some people would find that cheesy but I liked it.

Yeah, OK, this wins. In fact, don't get this one, because I want it.
