POLL:Was smile.dog really that scary?(Split from ITT:Creepy)

Postby Internetmeme » Sun Mar 15, 2009 7:47 pm UTC

Was it? See This thread for the image and the story. Be warned, it fucked me up for about a day.

EDIT:
Also, warning:
SecondTalon has posted said image down below, although it isn't redwashed and is less creepy. I'd say about 10 or so posts down, it's after one of Jack Saladin's posts asking for the image. Be warned, it is not spoilered, but it is scary for all of 5 seconds. I think it needs a hug.

Single most terrifying picture of my life. It just seems that it's not even just a creepy picture, but that the dog face is ACTUALLY looking at you.

I can't say that I was particularly horrified by that picture. Sure, I've seen cuter dogs, but it wasn't that bad.

Yeah that's pretty creepy, but I don't think I'll lose any sleep over it. I think the fake teeth actually make it less creepy, the red and the glowing eyes are what got me most.

I just looked at it again.

Guess what?

People who have horror or blood fetishes probably fapp to it.

Seriously.

Editing my posts about it accordingly.

The hair reminds me of Scar from the Lion King.

God, that thing is just disturbing looking. I think the lighting makes it worse. I moved it to my ~/Pictures/.trap folder, whose name is pretty self-explanatory. It can join the pic from the spider thread.

I think it was creepy, but not in the sort of way where it's going to haunt me for any period of time. It's just too fake.
That being said, I am rather hypnotized by it, trying to figure out what whoever made it was thinking...

And that spider was cute, I don't know what you're talking about.

We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

Hmm, a letdown for me. I don't understand how people compared it to the pain series or even Goatse.

It looks so ridiculously fake and manipulated to me (whether 'shopped or the actual film was treated somehow) that I can't take it seriously. Also, I wasn't expecting all the red, or just how indiscernible the dog's form would be, so at first I was like, "What? Is this even the right picture? Where's the extended hand supposed to be? How is that a husky?" I guess I can kinda see them now, but it's still a stretch.

The mandate to spread it after viewing reminded me of The Ring, of course.

Meh, I'm surprised anyone even mentioned it. Not scary at all tbh. Far worse things on the internet to fk with you're head.
I wish my nightmares contained things that tame

And I don't think people with horror/blood fetishes would fap to something like that; from what I've seen *cough* it's different motivation behind it. Then again, I can't say I've ever seen a fetish based on horror that isn't linked to something sexual; Guro, for example, still contains human imagery, it's not just "scary".

Well, the image posted is crapppy.
Google it for the good image, and it actually is kinda cool when it isn't blurry.

Have not looked at it and will not look at it. I know I'm more sensitive than many people when it comes to disturbing images, especially since I tend to remember them in vivid detail for a long time, so I'll avoid it.

I have pictures and avatars switched off here, but I got surprised when I looked at sje's profile; avatars are always shown on profile pages - fortunately by then, there was only the smiley-masked version.

I cautiously avoided looking at it for a while, until in the middle of a chat conversation my friend randomly changed his picture to it. I looked up (The bright red attracted my eyes) and thought, "Well, that's not too bad." I certainly didn't like looking at it, and it made me a bit sick to my stomach, but didn't freak me out. Just to make sure it wasn't the small size, I went back to the creepy thread to see the larger image. Slightly more impact, but I still didn't really react to it that much.

I've never seen any of the shock sites (though I know what they contain. More reason not to look), and the worst thing I've ever seen was a bot fly in a human brain. THAT seriously messed me up for a while.

It's odd. Definitely photoshopped (the front set of teeth is people teeth) but not "Oh me yarm Oh GOTTA LOCK THE HOUSE" at all.

I'd still be willing to pet a dog like that if I met it in real life.

But only if it had a muzzle.

Goddamnit, SecondTalon. Thanks for making me freak out in a library and get weird stares.

It's actually not that scary, but it's quite a shock if you're not expecting it. Keep looking, and it's like, "Hmm, he actually looks kinda goofy."

D'awwww.

There's this animated gif of a spider I mentioned in the spider thread that is still by far the worst thing I've ever seen on the internet.

Edit: Fuck, I just remembered where I saw it, too, but it's in the worst possible corner of the internet. Goddamnit. I dunno if I wanna scroll through there looking for it.

Edit 2: Oh thank Christ the server is down.

Though I don't really think another thread split from ITT:Creepy is necessary, I'll still throw in my two cents.

I can see why some would consider it disturbing. However, the more and more I look at it, the more and more I enjoy it. I suppose it's just a problem of my own; I'm always fascinated by such psychologically disrupting images and media. After a while, I can't help but smile back.

Mr. Beck (as I still remember you), I have some explanation for you. In the other spin-off thread (which was locked before I could properly reply), you fix'd my post to say the image I posted would not give one nightmares. I originally put "possibly" because, as my above post should indicate, I'm not the best judge of such things. I can no longer represent the layperson.

I don't find it all that creepy from a logic-brain standpoint. It even sets off my spooky/funny radar. But the dysfunctional part of my brain (that feels like it's right behind my right ear) is fixated on it. I'm vaguely concerned about my brain chemistry.

I was in the "I'm not even going to look at that thing if its THAT creepy" category, until SecondTalon's post jumped out at me. Now I'm definitely a 'no'. That thing's disturbing the first time you look at it, but after that its not so bad. Even kinda funny.

Also, after working a lot with chopping MEAT at the market, you'll get pretty used to those kind of images. I remember one of favourite kindergarten entertainments - to sneak out on the street, run up to huge garbage pile (why it was near kindergarten? no idea) and put that horse?/cow?/pig? skull on a stick to scare whiny girlies! That was the time!
