Light speed. I win at everything.

either:
A) time manipulation
B) telekenesis
C) ability to interface with digital circuits

although id probably choose A or B

EDIT: but II, if you had 'light speed' power, if you tried to use it to accomplish anything, the thing you were trying to accomplish would disappear into the past as soon as you approached anywhere near light speed......

Uh oh. Bad suggestion in a forum like this. :P

id have the super power to be able to read and write verryyy fast, and retain all that information, but if wanted, i could read slow :)

I'd be able to turn my urine into refined petroleum. Peak oil? Whatevs.

Telepathy. The kind where you can probe other peoples' thoughts and memories.

I like secrets, what can I say.

But not the kind where you hear peoples' thoughts unbidden...that could get kindof damaging.

That's such a lame superpower.
My method for slowing down is to read upside down, but that is not as effective as it used to be. It only really slows me down if the text is printed in a very weird font.

Flight is the number one super power. Who wouldn't want to leave here tonight and go "ok catch you later" then zip off into the sky.
</danecook>

Although spaghetti out of the finger tips would be awesome, I'm going to have to go with telekinesis. Or the ability to manipulate the force. Not quite the same thing but close.

If i was invisible... but wait, i already am.

</emo moment>

I'd LOVE to be able to fly.

Just fly. I wouldn't use it for anything special.. I'd just... fly. Woosh!

I would want to be able to make my brother's dog stop barking when I'm trying to sleep just by thinking about it.

Impressive? No.
Practical? Hell yes.

Fly, definitely. So easy for the daily commute. But then if you have telekinesis you could apply it to yourself to fly, so telekinesis.

Or time manipulation. Then you get to simulate moving stuff with your mind by stopping time, walking over to the object, moving it, returning, and restarting time.

Wouldn't it be more useful to turn something like water into refined petroleum? You can get a lot more of it than you can your own urine :P

Invulnerability and immortality would be pretty awesome.

Until everything else dies, sure. Eternity would probably get awful lonely.

I'd want the ability to commute between our world and any possible fictional world on a whim. Mainly because this world just bores me.

The power to levitate and manipulate pants. Anyone's and everyone's.

My boyfriend and I got into a discussion the other day about ironic superpowers. For example, being able to fly, but having a debilitating fear of heights...Able to cook meats to perfection while being vegetarian...
Personally, I think it would be a very interesting comic book story.

Omnipresence. I think it would be cool to be able to view the workings of the universe on a grand scale.

I'd want the power to make hair and grass grow really fast.

No wait, the power to make car alarms go off when you step into a parking garage.

WAIT, the power to un-cook stuff! Yeah! Un-cooking stuff would be one AWESOME power!

You don't think that would be much of a SUPER power? Well it would only be REVERSING THE ENTROPY IN THE FUCKING UNIVERSE!

Okay but seriously, a lot of powers are really tempting (see: flight, telepathy), but if I HAD to pick just ONE it would probably be the ability to repair. Anything. People, constructions, natural objects... anything. Being able to repair it to a previous state or even make it BETTER than a previous state. That would be my dream power.

I want to be able to raise cities from the ocean that are infested with super-smart ants.

On second thought, just give me the ability to fly.

So you want the ability to reappeal the second law of thermodynamics. Brill.

Super villain:

Dr. Gravitas: Can manipulate local gravity. This includes the ability to fly, generate tiny black holes, and explode heads.

or, preferably,

[No name yet]: Has telekinesis, but he can only manipulate jell-o. Because that's not impressive enough, he can also turn anything into jell-o, then back into whatever it was before. Overpowered? Yes, please!

Pff, obviously nightcrawler's.

As a second option? Shadowcat's.

The ability to selectively manipulate Planck's constant, effectively giving me the power to increase quantum randomness to a high level and have it cease when the configuration suits me. That would basically make me god.

having unlimited charisma would be pretty sweet. i could get any lady i wanted or get into any place i wanted or get any info i wanted

Hmm. I don't know if it would be considered a super power or not, but I'd totally go for ultimate understanding/omniscience. Every language, whether spoken or written or even thought about, from the past through the present, could be understood and repeated. I think that would be awesome. So much that I want to take language classes until the day I die. I'll be fluent in as much as I can.. hell, I'm starting a sign language class on 4/17.

Beyond that.. uhm.. time manipulation, I think. I have far too many daydreams about waking up and being younger, but with all the knowledge I know now, and how I'd handle each situation. So yeah. That.

Hmm. I know I've already gone, but just wanted to throw a cool one out there. It's from an item called Shosuro's Mask from Legend of the Five Rings:

The ability to appear to be whoever the person viewing you most expects to see.

So if you're walking into a classified base? The guards see you as someone who's cleared to be there. If someone is meeting their lover in the garden, and you're there, they see you as him. And so forth.

It gets interesting when there's more than one person present, and they have different expectations.

That said, it's still incredibly useful.

One of the more interesting answers I've heard from this question is the ability to touch a book and instantly know all of its contents.

1. I want my life to have like a checkpoint and restore. That way I could try something really stupid/potentially harmful, then revert to how it was before I tried it. (Though I would need to carry information gathered during that time with me back.)

2. Telepathic abilities. If I were an X-Men, I would choose Charles Xavier, but only over some others by a tiny bit.

You win.

Superseded by time manipulation, or is it? Maybe if you went backwards to your checkpoint and said to yourself "that's a stupid idea. Forget it."

No, because you still wouldn't have the memory of doing it, which is the entire point: You get to experience gratifying-but-self-destructive things, and not suffer the consequences.

Walk into work, punch your boss in the genitals, laugh for 20 minutes, and then reload from previous save so that you still have a job.

The ability to steal any and all other super abilities on this forum and elsewhere. For teh win!
Actually, I'd probably go with time manipulation, if I had to pick just one.

Sure. Time maniuplation could easily encompass that; I was just being precise in terms of exactly what I would want for my time maniuplation abilities. ;-)

For instance, something else I think would be awesome is if I could stop time but continue to do stuff. That would also count as time manipulation, but is decidedly less powerful than what I said, though some of what you could do with this idea you could do equally well with the checkpointing one.

I also think that it's easier to say something like "if you die you automatically restore your last checkpoint" than it is to say "if you die you go back in time".

Better than time manipulation and save points:

Super smartness. Whenever I am faced with a decision, I could figure out exactly what the outcome of any course of action would be, after only a few moments of reflection.

Posted: Fri Apr 06, 2007 7:23 pm UTC
by bbctol
But if you had time manipulation, you could just slow time and plot the outcomes apparently instantaneously... or just try them all and go back in time if they don't work out!

And that would even cover sudden and random things that you couldn't possibly anticipate regardless of your intelligence
