Fighting an addiction....to 4chan

Postby zaqwithaq » Sun May 24, 2009 6:33 pm UTC

A /b/tard and I were talking at school and /b/ came up (inb4 rule 1 and 2) and we started to reminisce about how much better life was before it. So we made a pact to quit together, I'm now 4 weeks sober from 4chan coming from using it every day for about an hour.

unfortunately, what has been seen cannot be unseen, but my use of memes in writing has dropped. I still have friends who go on, and I've been encouraging them to quit with me.

And yes, we all deserve to be under age b&. Kids in high school should NEVER go on /b/ no matter how funny they think it is. Its not worth it.

Share stories about your addiction, get support, or just write memes in all caps...just felt like sharing.

I find it odd that you share hope about getting away from /b/, yet your avatar nothing but a b. If I were you, I'd change it to a reverse b or something :P.

I like your message. I have a few friends who are on /b/ and in denial (you know who you are. Yes, you). It's ruined their lives - I think one of them joined FaiD. Maybe if someone kept up a dedicated ddos on /b/, a few lucky souls might escape.

Babam, it's okay. We're all friends here, and we won't judge [out loud].

There is nothing addictive about /b/. Actually it's kinda lame. I only go on 4chan for the naked people.

You have made the correct choice.

And don't worry about the rules. No matter what those ass-clowns say, they don't apply anywhere but /b/.

1 and 2 only apply during raids. boxxy will never be queen. m♥♥t will always be queen and W.T.Snacks Will always be king.

Any ways I see how you can not like /b/ or how it could ruin your life, but if you keep a balance /b/ can be quite good for a chuckle or two.

I stopped going to /b/ so often when I started calling people fag and nigger in real life.

I occasionally browse it now, but I feel awkward every time they put up pictures of teenage girls (I'm 20, so it's on the edge of not quite creepy...but it's definitely on the creepy side of that boundary).

On the plus side, whenever my friends try to embarrass me or freak me out with images, I'm inured. What has been seen can not be unseen!

Once you've seen the inside of /b/ you are one of us for life.

Also, I give you my greatest invention: WORK-SAFE /b/! (spoilered for epic screenshot size)

Pic very related.

"Teenage" could mean anything from 13 to 19, although in the genre of pornography, the term "teens" is sometimes used to refer to anyone who appears to be between the ages of 18 and 29.

Which sort of begs the question, how does one really know that a person in a picture is really over 18, and not a 17-year-old who happens to look like she's 25? As a practical matter, the presence of tattoos suggests that the subject is of age, but not everyone gets tattooed when they turn 18 (thank goodness).

You can't tell, but I'm not particularly concerned if it's a 17 year old instead of an 18 year old.
Then again, I am "a horrible pedophile who deserves to die" for being attracted to people three years younger than me. *shrug*

I check out /m/ every now and then... I don't know why, because I don't watch any of the shows they care about... the only /m/ show I watch that's on now is Power Rangers RPM and hardly anyone talks about that.

In /b/, it often ends up being like 15. E.g., they post pictures ripped from someone's Facebook, then then someone posts a link to the account, and the person ends up having been somewhat young.

I tend to follow the .5x +7 rule, which seems imminently sensible. 18 is okay. 17 is probably fine. 16 is pushing it. Like, someone posted a number of pictures from this episode of iCarly, which is apparently a Nick show. http://www.truveo.com/icarly-ifight-she ... /957733694

Obviously, I wasn't about to fap or anything, but I found both actresses attractive, and the considered the scenes mildly provocative (that might just be me, but I doubt it, considering the responses going on /b/). I later found that both actresses were 15 at the time. While I wasn't like ZOMG I AM THE PEDO, I did feel a little weird about it. It's like when I saw Chamber of Secrets with my friends and one of my buddies commented that Hermione was hot. We were like 14, but she was like 12 (11 at the time of filming). Was it way creepy and uncool, was my friend a pedophile for openly stating attraction to a borderline pubescent girl? No. Was it kinda weird and uncomfortable? Yeah.

The lines are sometimes arbitrary, but they're there (for me, at least).

True dat, but I'm in my late 20s and know a couple of 18-year-olds who are extremely attractive, and happen to fall outside the .5x + 7 rule. Generally speaking, I would rather someone that I date at least done with their college education, though (it's not necessarily a measure of maturity, but more of a suggestion that there is a baseline of things to talk about.)

I've been on 4Chan for stuff other than /b/, and as long as you can get past what one in the local parlance might call the "opinionfag" (that is, the ones who won't allow even a moment's consideration of another's opinion) and you'll be okay.
I've gone on /a/ and /v/ a couple times and actually found decent conversation, and /v/ is about as close to /b/ as it can get without actually being /b/ from what I've heard.

Never really been to /b/ though. I suspect the collective stupidity would make me break out in a horrible case of hives.
