Nothing personal. Just that "Indeed." as a page topper is a pain, because it means going back to find out what you are "Indeed"ing.

You say that like everyone experiences this thread exactly as you do. As has been pointed out repeatedly, having soft-deleted a post in a thread means you don't get the same page-topper as everyone else. And, of course, Autopager means no more pagetoppers, ever.

I thought it was a perfect pagetopper, especially given the thread. Almost poetic.

Indeed.
I shouldn't have to say that when two people who are seeing each other are in a bedroom together and don't answer a knock on the door, attempting to barge in is quite inappropriate.

And it's also why you should have a system if you have a roommate.

Like the time I nearly walked in on my roommate & his girlfriend in high school -- he always joked about sneaking her over, but I never believed him.

And the time in college where I left my room, came back a few minutes later because I forgot something and pretty sure interrupted my roommate having solo fun-times.

His roommates all understood perfectly, this was a friend of a friend of ours who invited himself to his flat "for a night or two" despite there being only one bed and proceeded to annoy the crap out of all of us for over a week. Whenever he wasn't telling us how great marijuana is (which he probably didn't even use despite all his bragging) he was saying something offensive while insisting that he was just being objective, and you couldn't even have a discussion with this guy because his arguments made no sense and he didn't understand sarcasm. He would also describe his weird health problems at the dinner table and complain about everything. I should probably take this to the rant thread...

Probably by their name, but I guess that they can be referred to by personal pronouns that match their gender (when applicable) if that's what you're asking.

I recommend a telephone. Still, if the string is long enough, the tin can method works too.

Or CB Radio. That could work. HAM radio. Ooo! Walkie Talkies!

Well, if you want to respect them, use the gender they identify with. If you want to be a jerk, don't. In some cases some people don't actually like being labeled with explicit gendered things at all, so if in doubt, ask, but in general, a MtF sibling = sister and FtM = brother and FtMtF = sister.

Amusingly, the main reason I *didn't* go with something similar ("they") was for pedantry.

WTF? It saddens me that there are still places in the (so-called) civilized world where people like that feel can express such toxic sentiments from a position of moral superiority.

SlyReaper wrote:It's good general advice for life. Unfortunately, people seem to have differing opinions on what constitutes "being a dick".

Wikimedia has a nice essay on this topic. From the introduction:
Wikimedia wrote:"Don't be a dick" is a fundamental rule of all social spaces. Every other policy for getting along with other humans is a special case of it. Although nobody is expected to ban or block somebody for dickery (as this itself would be an instance of such), it is still a bad idea to be a dick. So don't be one. If a significant number of reasonable people suggest, whether bluntly or politely, that you are being a dick, the odds are good that you are not entirely in the right.

As "brother/sister" are gendered nouns, I treat them similarly to pronouns, and think of them in the same way. v0v (brother/sister/sibling vs. he/she/[ze or they], etc.)

Every time you say a word that lumps somebody into a group, replace it with “person”

A Man —> A Person

A Woman —> A Person

Black —> A Person

White —> A Person

Asian —> A Person

Indian —> A Person

Muslim —> A Person

Christian —> A Person

Hindu —> A Person

Argentinian —> A Person

Gay —> A Person

Trans* —> A Person

A Child —> A Person

Seriously. If you are of the genus Homo and the species sapiens then you are equal to all other members of the genus Homo and the species sapiens.

People are people. It’s not fucking difficult.

Also, there still needs to be a good monosyllable equivalent of "person"/"people".
