How much would you pay for this snowboard?

Postby nyeguy » Sat Sep 19, 2009 10:00 pm UTC

I need data for an economics assignment. Basically, I need to ask 20 people how much they would pay for something, and obviously they can't know the market price.

There is so much information that can factor into the question, but here is an intermediate board, designed for standard ski resort usage that carves nicely.

I would pay $180 for that.

$300 sounds reasonable to me.

Am I supposed to consider what I think the market price would be, realistically?

Not really, my understanding is that it is just what you, off the top of your head, would be willing to pay. Its not a very formal or well defined assignment.

Ah, okay. My $300 still stands. Cool.

10$, because I don't snowboard and would probably use it as a wall ornament.

No bindings,, just the board, about 250-300 because Burton owns the slopes. They really have some spot on, well-put-together boards.

I know nothing about snowboards, have no clue what 'carving' is, but if that board is standard use by resorts, I'd guess a good $250, USD.

Dromtry wrote:'carving'

Refers to it's performance on the slopes, gleaned from how a snowboard, because of it's reinforce edges, tends to *carve* marks through the snow and even ice, more so than skis.

Given it's a Burton, I'd say $450-500AU ($350-400US)

I'd probably not pay more then, say, CDN$225. That's about US$210 or EUR145.

$20. I don't snowboard, so I'd want to minimize my risk if it turns out I don't like snowboarding.

$150 USD and the $20 CAD that's in my wallet.

...the above statement appears to have incorrect grammar. This annoys me. Can someone fix it?

$120. I obviously have no idea how much snowboards cost. (The few times I've ridden them they've been rented.)

It is of course supposed to be on my wallet. I guess your abuse of prepositions can be excused if you are carrying Canadian currency under your wallet.

I would probably haggle for awhile before deciding on a price for the snowboard. I would first offer way too low, say, $20, and then gradually increase my bid until my limit of around $22. I'm not a big snowboarding fan, so my annual budget for it is very small. I keep a tight shift on my budget, but that is a nice snowboard so I might splurge with those extra two dollars.

It completely lacks a predicate.

Well, shit. I was actually thinking "that's" looked incorrect, but hey, criticize the rest. :|
Spoiler:
I would pay $150 USD, in addition to the $20 CAD currently contained within my wallet.

Incomplete information of course ;) For those of us that actually rides a snowboard we need to know the lenght, flex and so on. Basically, I don't really ever go into the park, but I love off-piste.

Anyway, without bindings I would pay around $270,

This is kindda cheating though, as I do remember the market price for a Burton Clash board

Yeah, I know there was a lot that wasn't actually mentioned, but it was sort of meant to be an intuition thing. I didn't really like the assignment anyway, but it was just to get some data to talk about in class.

Thanks guys, that's all I needed for the assignment.
