I enjoy that there was a citation in Wikipedia for "For this, he has joined a long list of Justices and Judges who have been heavily criticized for bringing literary insight into what has traditionally been considered as boring and straight forward judicial decision making."
tenet |ˈtenit|
noun
a principle or belief, esp. one of the main principles of a religion or philosophy : the tenets of classical liberalism.
tenant |ˈtenənt|
noun
a person who occupies land or property rented from a landlord.

Christmas present from the universe: I randomly stopped biting my fingernails last week. I've been biting them obsessively for as long as I can remember, but it's not nearly as tempting anymore. I think I'm going to make "don't bite fingernails" my new year's resolution, in case I have a relapse.

And the one bad thing about this is that I have to use nail clippers now. Laaaaame.

I stopped biting mine in May.

I still have no idea what to do with them, how to care for them, or what they should look like.

And I still have no idea how people deal with them. I think I'm just going to start clipping them back to where I used to chew them... Mostly so I can pick things up off a tile floor again.

It's getting kind of hard to type. I think I can see why press-on fingernails aren't popular with computer geeks.

When I got braces as a teen I stopped biting because my mom threatened me with having to pay for my own broken brackets. I grew lovely nails and even started to have acrylic nails put on. It takes a bit of time getting used to but it can be done. What's really scary is the women who have fake nails that are several inches long. Even more scary? Watching them go into the restroom...how do they wipe?!?

I stoppee biting when I got braces because it was impossible. I couldn't get the nail far enough into my mouth.

I also just sort of stoppee  for no good reason one day, after many many years of frustrated attempts at ending the habit. I keep my nails mostly clipped down to the ends of the fingers or just a bit shorter, though they will sometimes get neglected into longer things that bend backward at the least desired moment.

I still find myself occasionally nibbling off all of the nails on one hand, usually because of reading or watching something that has me on edge. I've learned to let it happen but be sensible about it -- no biting further down than the end of the finger if I can help it. As long as I can clip the nibblage down to looking like I just have short nails, it's nothing to stress over.

This old floor fan we used to have always made the most awesome sound when it was first turned on as it spun up to speed because the case and blades were both metal and I think that made it resonate or something. It was very haunting.
Almost like a faint breezy oboe. It was like: Woooooonn woon woon, wooooon woon woon, wooon woon woon woonwoonwoonwonwonwonwon, wooooonnn woooooooooooon woooooon... brrrrrrrooooooooowwshhhhh.
You have to say it out loud to get the effect. Also, I would then do the thing where you talk/ make noise into the fan to hear it echo.

Long coats are the best thing about winter; in the summer there simply isn't the wind and I'm not badass enough to generate my own wind of awesome for it

Except in winter, there's the temptation to button the coat up. A true Badass Longcoat should be worn open.

I miss my badass labcoat. Uni's a lot stricter about not wearing them to wander about in than Secondary was.

Although that's fair, given that the uni lab is biosafety level 2.

This is why you buy a special labcoat to wear for when you're not in lab. That way, you have an excuse to buy one of the short ones anyway.

My bridge coat is one of the nicest things I have from my time in the Navy. Alas, I live in Alabama. I mean, because of the weather. That's not a general statement. Although it could be.

Also, something's that's awesome but entirely unrelated: I have my first pro-am ballroom comp this weekend. I'm super-excited.

Luckily I usually wear it with a suit (which I have to wear for school) or a hoodie (if I really think cold is likely to be an issue) which I can do up. I think I have done by coat up once which was when I was caught in a sudden downpour out of the blue without a hoodie and I didn't fancy getting wet through my hoodie.

Apple's iBooks author app is really cool. It's actually what I always wanted from a publishing app, that neither Word nor Pages gave me. And it's free, and I can install a book on any ipad that wants it. No stupid DRM. This is awesome.
