This is a.nnoying as hell. It makes serious_business threads hard to understand.

It was cute when "l.ol" was "the c.heese is burning me!"

This is obnoxious.

I don't post in there enough to say much about it, but I do think quite a few people would agree with that.

I believe the software only allows cheesegraters to be made galaxy-wide, rather than limited to specific fora. That or they can't specify exceptions for specific fora if they make galaxy-wide graters.

ALSO YOU GUYS: When typed the grated version in that list, did you actually type in the grated version (rather than letting the cheesegrater do it for you) so it doesn't change back at the end of the month?

Suck it up and deal.

Or look at it another way - to make heads or tails of a post, you have to read it and think about just what the person actually said when they said Freedomville or whatever. You have to slow down, give the post a good mulling over and try to make sense of it before continuing.

Slow, thoughtful posting? In My SB?

That's a pretty immature way of thinking about it. There are some components of the foru.ms that should not really be messed with** (the mental health & rape support threads in dear S.B for instance). I'm sure this has been mentioned in mod foru.m since Ham.mer keeps a pretty close eye on dear S.B's more weighty threads, but even so a distinction must be drawn betwee.n "XKCD injoke is occurring for the lulz" and things that would be actively detrimental to the foru.ms or some of their users.

Again, I'm sure this has been discussed, and that you only intended to reply to a small aspect of the post and were not trying to se.riously cover the entire issue... But (and sorry to be an arsehole about it) that was honestly a bullshit call on elminster.

*That said, I'm sure I'd find it pretty am.using** if rape ->"surprise fun" in all of S.B. But I don't think it's reasonable to expect everyone to have a robust sen.se of humour if some very weighty threads had their meaning changed (accidentally or not) via fil.ter. It's a facetious/strawman example but the point is seriou.s
**nearly got caught by the am.using -> arousing fil.ter

Oh noez, SB is far too serious for anyone to misunderstand a post there!

As for Dear SB, etc., the issue of potential triggers has already been addressed (but suggesting that people who would be upset by a "rape" » "surprise fun" filter "don't have a robust sense of humor" does not lend credibility to a post reintroducing that issue).

Depending on the misunderstanding, bits of it definitely are.

The example filter was noted as a not literal example. The point was that filters can have a serious knock on effect on S.B, and the idea that fil.ters are a good joke doesn't make it okay. Although the manner in which I made the point could have been better, I hope it's clear that I was not saying that not finding a rape joke hilarious is inherently due to a poor sen.se of humour.

So long as it's thought about and avoided then 'tis all fine (as I stated in my post), but suggesting that everyone who notes issues with fil.ters/S.B is being a whiny bitch is wrong.

Ultimately, you don't have to come and post here, or in SB.
You choose to, so if you don't like it, you can choose to not post and come back after mod month is up and the filters are turned off.

This "like it or leave it" argument is bullshit. The f.orum is a community. Telling people to leave a community because they don't like what is going on is NOT how communities work.

If you'd missed it; it's al.so a privately owned website, the running of which is entrusted to the admins and m.ods, who like it or not are benevolant dictators. Don't be fooled into thinking the unusual wellspring of comradarie and community spirit on here means you actually get a say in how its run... This like every other forum is a Modocracy, only at least ours are funny with it.

Yeah, but when their behavior is a.nnoying or irresponsible (in the case of the support group threads) the users should say something. This would be an a.musing april fool's joke. Doing it for a long period of time is the kind of bullshit I expect from 4chan users, not xkcd m.ods.
Use the report function to point it out. PM a mod.

Don't bitch about it here.
