I agree with TGB. There is nothing wrong with never having overpaid for a rather average coffee product. And you got a cool mug, so you really have the best of both worlds.

Also, are Starbucks that rare in Australia? Here (and a lot of places, I thought), they're like a plauge.

Fair enough. I've never had that cultural 'experience' though, so I feel like I'm missing out :P.
Well, there aren't any in Western Australia, and I haven't been to the Queensland/Victoria/NSW, where there are some.

I'll give you the beaches. I'm just bitter after too many visits to extended family in Perth in the middle of summer, when it was 40C for days on end and there was nothing to do. :P

Let's just say that it doesn't normally snow when it's this cold. It actually has to warm up a bit before snow usually falls.

Coffee-drinking friends tell me that most of our cafes/restaurants, even the cheap ones, do better quality than they've had in the equivalent style of restaurant in America.

Hawk: Truth. Apparently other states know us for having great coffee (and apparently for wearing, comparatively, a lot of black in winter). I know a guy in Perth who say the coffee situation there is dire in contrast.

On behalf of Seattle, I apologize for Starbucks. It's not so great, and I am sad it had to be inflicted on the rest of the world. I myself only wander in there occasionally to show out-of-towners the original establishment. Seattle has infinitely better and more reasonably-priced coffee to offer.

Also that top hat is amazing and I want one.

It's a lonely existence, living in Melbourne and habitually drinking 5 cups of tea per day. The coffee here is excellent, but tea is apparently impossibly complicated. Someone once gave me a pot of it with steamed milk.
