It's not the hair. I should've said "Taxi Driver-era". It's mostly the shape of your face, and your expression in the last picture. The hair helps too off course.

Thanks but there are two problems with that:
1: My physique has been describead as "one with ninja muscles: It looks like there's nothing there, then after hanging out with [me] for a month you realise that [I'm] not as skinny and weak as I look", so people on the street just see a skinny guy derssed weirdly.
2: I'm a pacifist.

But thanks for the compliment. Yay! people think I look cool :D And remember that it was your awesomeness that convinced me to start doing it again.

Ah, when I went on it I was the first one to get down to the canal and the snow was fresh, so not so bad- it just crunched rather than slipped. I can imagine it being awful once it's compressed though, so kudos for that.

I'm going to opera this month, so I've been thinking about a bit more formal clothing. Clothing etiquette - in addition to choosing correctly colored clothes - is something I don't know much about, so I'll ask you. Looking acceptable or bad or something else? I'm wearing regular black pants and a sportcoat. Shoes are not anything fancy, brown, but look pretty dark in these. First one is with a bowtie I found from closet:

Second one is more relaxed:

I like the color of the shirt, but not sure if it's actually good.

I think the jacket/bow tie may be a bit too fancy for the pants. But I don't know anything about clothing... Maybe it would be enough to iron those pants.

I'm not much of an expert on clothing etiquette, but I think you'd better get some black shoes to go with the black pants.

Zohar: Yeah, the bowtie is possibly a bit too formal, but I think the jacket and the pants aren't that bad together. Maybe.
EvilDuckie: I might actually change my pants to fit the shoes. At least I wouldn't have to buy anything that way, but then again, another set of shoes might actually be a good idea. (I do have other shoes too, but not ones that I would be choosing in this case.)

Looks to me like the shoes are black. If they are, then go with either one. You'll be fine. There's no such thing as "too formal" if you're confident about it, because then it just becomes "eccentric".

But if the shoes don't match, fix that.

Definitely iron the pants. Aside from that, I think it'd be okay.

Iron the pants, definitely. And I hate to say it, but I'm not liking the color of the shirt. It's a little too Halloween/Thanksgiving-ish. Go with a light blue or dark red, I think that would work better.

Oh, and I found a good one. This was just after I got hired, as we entered the cruiser that the county sheriff was lending us in a car show:

More feedback, yay, thanks! I guess that I mostly need to reconsider what to do with the lower half now. I think I'm going to skip the bowtie. If I actually had a tie I would consider using that. (My wardrobe is starting to feel really limited now.)

osiris32: It's okay if you don't like the color. You also told what felt off about it, so it was constructive, and therefore a good thing. That being said, Halloween and Thanksgiving are American things and I live across the pond, so I'm not too worried about association with those things. I'm still going to look what other color options I have.

Also, pretty impressive looking car!

I recommend bowtie. There is no such thing as too formal for the opera. Black shoes and ironing are good choices.

I don't know if it's the lighting or what, but it looks like you're trying to wear jeans and work boots with a formal jacket. Either way, [I think] you should find a less vividly-colored shirt.

And naturally thanks for all the further responses too. To be honest, I'm still confused about these things, even more now that I took a look at some pants and shoes today. Should do that again and this time find a store person to explain what would suit me. Ooh!
