I think it has to do with the fact that men are generally more visually stimulated than women. So, when guys heap on the comments, it's assumed (by me and maybe Tainted and others) that they're stimulated and expressing it, and this brings to mind cat calling and associated creepiness.

To be honest I haven't really seen much of a dichotomy between replies to pictures of men and women here, and it's something I look out for. I think there's a fine line between light hearted enthusiastic compiments, and the boarderlines of creepiness. Generally though, people here seem to be pretty considerate.
