The XKCD smiley

Postby rthomas2 » Fri Sep 24, 2010 5:37 am UTC

Alright, I know the title of the comic is supposed to have no significance, but it seems fairly plausible that it's an unintentional smiley.

Think of the X as hair, the K as two scrunched eyes, the C as a nose, and the D as a mouth - XKCD seems to be reasonably regard-able as a smiley. Anybody with me?

Seeing the C as a nose is really pushing it, and the K as scrunched eyes is madness.

Besides, it's xkcd, not XKCD.

That's my take on it. I still think it's very far fetched, but I see where the OP is coming from.

xkcd is just XKCD with permanent damage from a stoke and a side mullet with bed head. Still works. Totally.

Can we made a new sticky thread about how xkcd is just a string of nonsense letters that is now a name for a webcomic? Because I swear we get a new "I know what xkcd means!" thread every month or so. And then have everyone's wild mass guessing be in that all-encompassing thread?

Smileys require a colon, or semi-colon for the eyes. Anyone who believes you can have a smiley without that particular factor must eventually come to understand that they're kidding themselves, and everyone is laughing at them when they're out of ear shot.

See, that'd still require that people actually.. you know.. pay attention.

What about anime smileys, like ^.^ or o_O ?

First of all, I'd like to say t(' 't) you and your opinion on smileys. It is as unintelligent as ( 8^(I) and makes me want to (x_(Q(` ´ ) you silly, while also sounding OX= while making everyone else in the thread correcting it seem like they are ಠ_ృ.
I'd also like like to give an internet based o/\o to everyone who doesn't think this.

Now I'm off to my _̴ı̴̴̡̡̡ ̡͌l̡̡̡ ̡͌l̡* ̡̡ ̴̡ı̴̴̡ ̡̡͡|̲̲̲͡͡͡ ̲▫̲͡ ̲̲̲͡͡π̲̲͡͡ ̲̲͡▫̲̲͡͡ ̲|̡̡̡ ̡ ̴̡ı̴̡̡ ̡͌l̡̡̡ in Fiji for a week, and when I come back I hope I don't see anymore of this or I shall ಥ_ಥ followed by me suddenly becoming very ಠ益ಠ and following through on my wish to "correct" you.

I think it's Homer. The ( is the top of a forehead, the 8 the eyes, the ^ the nose, and the (|) lips.
