What you Love/want to change about yourself.

Three things that you love, and three that you want to change.

1) Passionately loyal friend. If you're willing, I'm your friend for life.
2) Starting to realise that I'm not as stupid as I felt for most of my life.
3) That I can be myself and still have people like me.

1) I'm lazy. I want to start working out (even just doing the treadmill) but I can't be bothered.
2) I work too much. Granted, I love my job, but there's only so much coding one can do.
3) I need to read more. There's so much out there that I want to read.

1) I'm above above average intelligence, and do well academically.
1) I enjoy working when I am, but it's too hit and miss as to whether I'll get started. No motivation :(

2) I'm not malicious in anyway.
2) I get drawn into arguments far too easily, and sometimes end up sounding malicious.

3) I have a good sense of humour, and can be very witty at times.
3) I can also be very immature at times, especially with my humour.

See what I did with the juxtaposition there? :P

1. I'm a nerd. I am unlike the rest of society, which is good, because society, in general, sucks.
2. I have a sense of humor which I am told is a good thing.
3. I read xkcd.

1. I have no friends. Well, some friends. And no girlfriend. This comes from a lack of social skills which is paralysing. Hence I develop annoying crushes on random people who I never get the courage to talk to.
2. I don't know where I'm going with my life. No clue, and that worries me.
3. I'm not as good at writing as I think I am.

1. I'm fairly sharp.
2. I'm neat.
3. I'm a nerd, and I can fix anything.

1. I'm timid (I had a girl in bed with me and still wouldn't tel her I like her)
2. I'm unable to get motivated
3. I got the class average on my last chem test.....a 50%

1) I am part everything so I get along with most people.
2) I have been told I have strong determination, so I guess that's good.
3) I do well academically.

1) I have trouble getting motivated.
2) Hence I don't really work out :(
3) I am totally paranoid about some situations, such as what I'm going to do with my life and how it will turn out, and I can be such a silly woman.

1. I consider myself to be rather eloquent and witty; I'm proud of my vocabulary and I think that I am fairly well-read.

2. I have, in recent years, overcome my self-image issues, and I am happy with my body now. Yay!

3. I am a huge gamer, but I'm good at balancing my time between social contact and having fun by myself (sexually suggestive? You decide.)

1. I am very emotionally clingy; I have the tendency to latch onto whomever I get close to.

2. I often struggle with my misanthropy towards my generation, especially guys my age. I try to be compassionate, but often times I think that I am sexist towards males, as I am inherently mistrustful of them, as opposed to women, whom I trust fairly easily.

3. My lack of religious faith bothers me, as I think that man needs something to believe in. I am not entirely convinced that there is no superpowerful being watching over the universe, but I have no interest in participating in the Christian church any longer; I have tried Buddhism as well, but was unable to stick with it, maybe because I had no one to practice with. This brings me to...

3b. I have a relatively short attention span, and I often have trouble finishing things that I start.

If you're interested about Buddhism, feel free to PM me. I'm no expert, but I've done a fair bit of reading and it really fascinates me...

1. I'm not that unintelligent.
2. I've found a support group (both on the internet and in real life) that is wonderfully understanding and intelligent and generally full of win.
3. I'm fairly skilled in a few things - I can sing a bit, and fold a bit, and occasionally even write.

1. I'm easily distracted and avoid things I don't enjoy doing to the point of hurting me in the long run.
2. I might be too codependent on my support group and unable to be happy on my own without them.
3. I feel like I never know enough about the things I do enjoy - still can barely read sheet music, my folding's horribly sloppy, my writing feels pretentious, I don't think I've watched enough/read enough/researched enough to be a proper "geek"/"nerd"/what have you, and so on.

1. I'm bright, and have somehow avoided some of the major personality flaws that tend to go with that in my family.
2. I'm very personable and can get along with/make good friends with just about anyone, almost regardless of their social circle, interests, etc.
3. I'm interested in just about everything and have pursued a fair amount of the things that do interest me.

1. I have NO idea what I'm doing with my life, nor where I'll be/what I'll be doing in a year's time.
2. I'm terribly lazy about my personal health, which is currently quite average but could be excellent if I were to find the motivation.
3. I skim the surface with so many different interests that I never find myself invested in any one thing long enough to become "proficient."

bbcotl, I hear you on your #2. I've ridden this wave of decisions beyond where they were useful and now I'm having trouble figuring out what's next.

Love:

1.) I can crush almost anyone I know in physical combat, should the need arise.
2.) I can design buildings in three dimensions in my head.
3.) I have a phenomenal ability to internalize my problems and emotions.

Hate:

1.) I jiggle.
2.) I want to be a writer, but I don't write.
3.) I have a phenomenal ability to internalize my problems and emotions.

dozer.c:7: error: cannot convert char* to char
dozer.c:8: error: cannot convert char* to char
dozer.c:9: error: cannot convert char* to char

;-)

(And if you're in C++, s/char*/const char*/g, and add in three more errors about how converting from const char* to char* discards qualifiers. But you forgot the cardinal problem with mixing declarations of pointers with more than one on the same line: the * only applies to the first. It should have been char * good[3], * bad[3]; )

This is a good topic. I would contribute except I'm not sure I want to share. If I had a private journal, this would be a good entry for that though. ;-)

Clearly one of the entries would have been "compulsively turns into a human compiler when presented with c or c++ source code", but it's not clear if that's good or bad.

EDIT: apparently the above isn't an error in C. I mean, it is, but it's not a syntax error. GCC accepts char* -> char conversions with the warning "assignment makes integer from pointer without a cast". It is illegal in C++ though.

1) [edit] Girlfriend. 'Nuff said. She's awesome.

2) My demeanor. I seem to be able to relate to people that are much older/much younger than myself very well. This is not necessarily true for people my age.

3) My intelligence, to a fault. I have a habit of getting really depressed sometimes due to it. The good thing is that I recognize that I am, and try to drag myself out of it, or at least let people know that if I seem like an ass, I'm sorry.

-1) My awkward social graces with those my own age/demographic. Self explanatory. I strive to change it.

-2) My self-consciousness. I hate the way I look. Again, I recognize this, and I try to stop myself from thinking that way but I cannot.

-3) My lack of motivation. I can't get up and tell myself to do something without arguing that it's a waste of time, and video games would be much more fun.

Sums me up in a nutshell.

-3)

1. One really good friend
2. Intelligent
3. The people of xkcd give me hope, at least

Change:
1. No girlfriend
2. I wish I was 'ruder', didn't do so much for others (boy am I modest!, but you don't know me in meatspace!)
3. I wish I wasn't such an extremist.

+1.) I'm a laid-back, easy going girl who considers a night in or a drive without destination 100% fun.
-1.) I did not get accepted to the AmeriCorps program that I applied to, and am not going to college next year. So, next year, which is supposed to be a new beginning after high school will really just be a lonesome search for my future. All I know is that I want to live in Portland, Oregon, but have no resources or money or plans about doing so.

+2.) I'm open-minded in the fact that I love trying new things, I accept people for who they are and I enjoy hearing people's opinions from all walks of life. Whether or not I agree with a person will not hinder my relationship with them, as I find common grounds with everyone I know.
-2.) I don't have many friends and don't know where to even begin to make friends. When I was in high school, making friends was simple. If you shared a class, opportunities to make conversation and joke around were obvious. But now that I have graduated, I feel very alone.

+3.) I am smarter than I think I am.
-3.) But not as smart as I wish I were.

1. I'm intelligent but I'm too rational.
2. I love to cook but I love to eat.
3. I'm outspoken and strong minded but I'm very blunt and lack any sense of tact (although that's kind of a choice, I suppose it's something I like about myself).

Good:
1. I'm smart (or so I'm told :D)
2. I can play two of my favourite instruments (synth and guitar) and I'm in a band.
3. I can type fast? I don't know, I couldn't think of anything else.

Bad:
1. No girlfriend, and I'm in a freaking BAND. THAT SUCKS.
2. As tempted as I am to repeat number 1, there's the lack of me being able to write any truly decent songs.
3. I can't fight as well as I'd like. And there are so many people I need to beat the living s*** out of.

1) On a 0-evil to 10-good scale I would be at 10, I am a compassionate person.
2) I have a wonderful girlfriend, which I am very thankful for
3) I have morals free of any sort of faith, apart from my faith (for lack of a better word) in science.

1) I have always thought of myself as a writer, and that I would write a book, but have never even finished a complete story plan. I am currently working on one, but that leads onto point 2...
2) I rarely see things through to completion. I actually wish university set me an assignment to write a book, then I would get it done. Also known as: terrible self-discipline and self-motivation.
3) I dislike that I had trouble thinking of more than 1 good point, but had plenty of options for things I would like to change/improve.

1. I am not stupid
2. I have a job that I like, which is more than I can say for many others my age.
3. I take the time to learn how stuff works.

1. The usual social problems that come from the nerd lifestyle. I am currently working to improve this...
2. I've got to finally get around to getting my driver's license, i've been putting it off for nearly a year now. (the problem here is procrastination due to laziness)
3. I am very forgetful...

Agreed, good topic.

1. I'm fairly sharp, very rational (I almost never let my emotions control me)
2. I care about learning, even if it's by myself (I'm learning art history by myself for the heck of it)
3. I'm a decent friend (I'm the person people come to to cry on)

1. I'm pretentious (I don't try to be. I just am. Even my best friends tell me this. I'm trying hard to tone it down)
2. I'm loud (Though I am trying to force myself to live by the whole Buddhist "Does it improve on silence?" thing)
3. I'm "emotionally unavailable" (I can't even conceive telling someone the worst of my problems. Anyone)

So, those three good things make me happy about myself and I'm actively working on two of the three bad things.

1. i love my eyes. they are teh awesome.
2. i like my bursts of completely misplaced confidence when i step out of the house wearing that?! (usually something hideously girlie, not obscene)
3. i like my sense of humor. its awful and riddled with puns, but i laugh, and sometimes other people do too.

1. i would change how dependent i am on other people for emotional stability. i want time alone, but after a great conversation, or a good run in warcraft or a fun night out, my moments alone turn into horrible loneliness.
2. i would be able to follow a schedule that isnt written - consistently hit the gym, consistently do the dishes/laundry/cleaning, call people when i said i would, etc. something in me just saw "forget about it" and i do =(
3. i suppose its in conjunction with number two to a certain extent, but i am a bit frumpy, and i dont really like it. sometimes i'm ok. most times not.

The Good:
1. I'm a good father. I think.
2. I'm nice to everyone. At least until I establish you're not worth the effort.
3. I can cook.

The Bad:
1. I have no tolerance for what I call 'willful ignorance'
2. I do not show emotion. Ever.
3. I'm stubborn

1) When I want something, I am always motivated enough to do it. I refuse to eat unhealthily, exercise lazily, and my work is always done on time with as much quality as possible.
2) I love to learn. I've been teaching myself linear algebra, theory of equations and partial differentiation as well as a load of geophysics this summer.
3) I am very empathic. I'm an understanding friend and I am always conscious of helping people or not.

However...

1) I very rarely fully trust any of my friends anymore, albeit I have many.
2) I let work get in the way too much, to the point where I irritate the average person by talking about school or university too much.
3) I expect too much of people, and end up creating unnecessary drama.

good:

2) I'm rarely "bored"
3) I'm quite good at physics (according to my exam results so far)

2) brutal honesty through sarcasm
3) due to 1), I'm not going anywhere, and don't really feel the need to

1. I'm fairly intelligent, and at the very least people find me interesting.
2. I'm decently creative, and I think outside the box. Wait, box? there's a box...?
3. I'm decently attractive.

1. I wish I dealt with real life better. I can do differential equations all day - ask me to balance my checkbook and my brain shuts down. I can't drive because there's too many variables for me to deal with on the road. And don't even get me started on things like rent and morgtages and insurance. :(
2. I wish I were less lazy and more able to actually ACT on my creative impulses. I get a lot of ideas but never have the strength to follow through on them.
3. Firstly I wish I was stronger, but more than that I sometimes wish I WASN'T so attractive. If I had a themesong it'd be Cactus Tree by Joni Mitchell. I just... can't stand to get physical in relationships and that's always what people want. And furthermore, I can't... just be one person's. I can't do it. Too busy bein free.

(1) Master of Calm, yo. Or, in other words, I have broken my composure only once in the last month, and that was when I accidentally crossed the positive/negative on a car battery. Here's a tip: don't cross the positive/negative on a car battery.
(2) I'm a good mediator, I'm good at settling dispute and helping people get along. I'm also a good talker.
(3) I'm a geek. I love being a geek.

(1) Not enough confidence in truly standing up for myself - I tend to bow before the demands of others.
(2) I'm ridiculously lazy - and, in an irony I'm sure many have experienced, I'm too lazy to stop being lazy.
(3) My memory is frickin' awful, and (because that one's rather weak to stand on its own) I'm good at making friends with girls but terrible at going any further. C'est la vie.

I tried to think of good ones, but analysing one's own faults and whatnot is a difficult business.

good
1) I think a lot, and enjoy thinking
2) I can easily motivate myself to do physical activities
3) when no one's around to watch, I can be fairly creative

bad
1) I usually prefer thinking to talking to people
2) I'm horrible at motivating myself to do things such as homework and the like, for example, I easily figured out all the problems on my comp sci placement test earlier this week but I have yet to type them out and submit it.
3) I'm very shy, and therefor almost never show anyone anything i draw or write, leave a lot of my ideas unsaid, and don't like it when people watch me play cello (and singing in front of others is right out)
