My girlfriend has a Gir tattoo on the back of her neck (picture below). I think it looks great, so I've decided to get a "matching" tattoo of Zim on the inside of my forearm. Just waiting for available monies.

Replying to the queries on after care, in respect to my own tatt:

I was told to keep it covered by the cling film they put on straight after it was done for 2 hours.

Then, clean it with warm water and unscented soap (the dove stuff was what i used).

Then apply Bepanthen nappy rash cream in a layer that';s not too thick.

Keep up with the rinsing and cream for 10 days, 3 to 5 times a day (I just did it after meal times).

Don't soak the tattoo for any prolonged length of time for a minimum of two weeks after getting the tattoo.

Don't go swimming for a month after getting the tattoo.

That was about it, really.

Man, I really want another tattoo now...But i don't know what to get! All the ideas I've had so far have faded from my mind after about a day, so they're no good.

Before getting a tattoo which will be particular to one partner, think about how long the two of you might be together. Not to sound pessimistic, but will the tattoo be as awesome if it reminds you of her and the two of you then break up?

I mean, if you still want to get it, go for it. I'm not gonna stop you. Well, I can't really. Just, think about it?

They hurt much more coming off than they do going on. I got one when I was 16 and had it removed at 26. 10 trips to the laser doctor is not fun. Be really sure you want it for the rest of your life. <3 I think I get it.

My first instinct is that it's an emblem from an RTS game, like WC3. Just a vague hunch though.

I'm too embarrassed to say, but it wasn't that big, about the size of your hand. The skin gets really raw after the first few times and you have to wait a few weeks for the scar tissue to heal enough to do it again. The smell was the worst, burning flesh and popping ink. It got to the point that it was so raw..........just be sure and you have nothing to worry about.

Haha. Well, we've been together nearly six years and lived together for over two years, so I think it's a pretty safe bet to be honest. But thank you for your concern. Regardless, having a Zim tattoo would always be awesome.

Why there? Because hardly anyone would see them, even me. Which is apparently why people start to dislike their tattoos because they see them too much.

Which is because they probably didn't really like the tattoo that much to begin with, or just thought it was kinda cool. In which case they were stupid to get such a permanent thing on their body which they had mediocre feelings about in the first place.

Hence I said: "toying with the idea of".
Which if you weren't sure, means I am thinking about it. I'm not typing this post as I am half way through getting it done and wondering if someone I don't know on the internet knows what I possibly want better than me. I will consult you before I make any personal decisions from now on.

I was commenting on your last line specifically,

Which is apparently why people start to dislike their tattoos because they see them too much.

People who like their tattoos don't start to hate them because they see them all the time. People who get tattoos that they're so-so about will probably start to dislike them if they see them often enough.

i would have to agree with this... especially when someone goes in for one tat and the guy tells them that maybe that wouldnt look so good and they should do something different or put it in a different place... yeah ... the tat then isnt what you had been picturing the whole time... your gonna hate it...

the original tat that i had wanted i was told it wouldnt look right 5 years down the road due to location and that i should move it up 3 inches... haha not!! i spent another 4 months and came up with something else... lol

I have been thinking about getting Maxwell's equations in vacuum in the Lorenz gage as a tattoo. I like it because Maxwells equations are elegantly represented by a single tensor equation.

my tattoos aren't nearly as geeky as some of the ones here (i'm more of a liberal arts guy than a hard science/math guy), but i feel like they'd be appreciated here anyway.

Spoiler:

this one, obviously, is on the inside of my right forearm (and the picture was taken six hours after i got it). it's my guitar, a 1978 fender mustang, which my grandmother bought new in 1978 and gave to me when i was about 14 (eight or so years ago).

i'll have to take a picture of the one on my back, i don't think i ever had a photograph of it. it's a couple lines of music across my shoulder blades. that was my first one, which i got in september of 2007; the one above i got the first week of august this year.
can i be buried here among the dead,
with room to honor me here in the end?

I got this a few days before April this year. It's a memorial tattoo, and the place I went to sadly overcharged me for it. It's maybe three and a half to four inches tall and cost 100 dollars.

It's a nice design. Simple, yet elegant. Those are the ones I can't see people regretting when they're older.

How big is it? And what's the placement? Kinda difficult to tell from the picture, sorry.
