*SOLVED* I need to corrupt a text file.

Postby Nhoj Serob » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:18 pm UTC

I'm looking to purposefully corrupt a text file.

I'm doing some special fx for a haunted house, and I need some documents that look partially readable on-screen, but have been obviously corrupted.

Kind of like this: http://www.planetfortress.com/dfa/images/recipe.jpg

Any help here?

Open some binary file in a text editor and copy and paste bits?

One thing I've been known to do with HD images when I want to test recovery tools is use dd to stomp random parts of the file...

I wonder if there's enough of a demand to make a filer-fucker-upper? A small script which given how much of the file you want wrecking heads to random parts and overwrites with noise.

There's this http://neddyy.net/test/docs/index.php but it corrupts the file to the point where it can't be read.

You might also try loading it into word, changing the fonts, formatting, and anything else you can think of, then open up the word file in a plain text editor (Notepad, Emacs, etc) and copy out the text.
Ten is approximately infinity (It's very large)
