We get it later on today (Thurs) which will be nice as I'll no longer have to log onto my boot camp partition to play.

In the mac update video there's a little sneak peek at the Engy update.

At the end look at his shotgun; my first inclination was that its a scope, but looking closer it have a antenna coming off it, so it looks electronic. My wild guess: remote Sapper destroyer. Has a cooldown so its only good of one use per encounter with a spy, but it gives the engineer a chance to get rid of the sapper from range before either shooting at the spy or removing a second sapper with the wrench.

OR maybe it is a scope that you can see cloaked spies through, or it at least beeps when you roll over one in your cross hairs.

Don't forget the comic of epicness.

Also, right before the Sniper looks at the Heavy in the video, you can see a Pyro run by in the background. The earbud page has a huge picture of the Pyro. And, in the comic, numerous things burn: the battlefield, Scout's earpiece, Soldier's shovel, a pig, and even the moon...plus ol' Saxton announces his intent to burn down the store, and complains of the lack of fire in Apple products. Clearly this lengthy parade of confirmation bias means the Meet the Pyro video is coming soon.

I always thought a fun 'meet the pyro' would involve the other characters being interviewed about him.

I speculate that Valve has discovered that the releases of the Meet the X videos create a huge spike in sales and is holding back on them accordingly.

Anyone else taking advantage of the free weekend?

No, because the bad, newbie engineers not using common sense makes me rage.
I'm a wizard. We know these things.

In war, one should seek to take and hold the high ground. From there, the enemy's movements are clearly visible, and he will struggle just to reach you, let alone fight you. High orbit is the highest ground there is.

It was pretty cool today, seeing a couple of completely new players log on and not get flamed to hell but instead a few tips on how to play over voice comms. I doubt that would happen on most of the other servers I play on though.

Communicating isn't vital, and there is text, but it's slower, but mics are about three pounds here, so if you decide to buy it I recommend you invest. They help you get remembered should you decide to become part of a community, and there's nothing like yelling spy and saving your medic heavy combo from certain oblivion, and then watching the spy rage at them for turning around at just the wrong time. S a bitch when it happens to you though.:/

If you play on an alltalk server, (which lets the teams chat with each other) the other team can see your chat bubble, which can give you away.
BUT it's worth it, because you can see who warned your target and then hunt them down next life, which is incredibly satisfying.

24/7 2Fort servers are where I cut my teeth, while clan servers are usually filled with better players and a better community. Orange_X3 servers are good for practising basic skills though you will get shot in the head by snipers a lot.

I felt bad today. You see, I think I'm a prtty decent Heavy and taking me down is pretty hard. So when the free weekend rolled in I started to get a kpd of 15 or so, dominating 8 of 10 players and so on. Yes, my newbie medics were really happy but probably my enemies weren't. I should have played something else, I guess.

I really hate when I play heavy and my medics don't follow me all the way to the objective.

So, I've played for roughly three hours now and I've decided to get the game.
but first, are you supposed to get a drop every hour or so? Because that has been happening to me and so far I've got the Bushman's shiv, Sandman and the second rocket launcher.

Thanks, but I'd be luckier if I got the Axtinguisher, Sandvich and Force-A-Nature, because that's what I want. I don't mind the normal bat and rarely use the soldier or sniper. But I must admit, the new Rocket Launcher is wonderful for my play style (assault from behind which gradually rotates around the other team's side) and I like the Sandman's ball attack when going against Heavys and Pyros.

And if you're wondering, I'm a Pyro/Scout/Heavy/Demoman player.

yea, the new system rolls for the interval you will get item drops, but limits how many you can get per week.

Sometimes I'll get one or two drops per map for a day or two, but no more drops the rest of the week.

Squishy and with a massive KILL ME PLOX sign on your head

A drop an hour isn't especially lucky tbh; I'd say that's about average. I've definitely had periods where I got more than that.
