My Steam ID is DrStalker, and I usually play with the name Nepenthe on Sydney's Internode and Game Arena servers.

If we get enough people on at once we can use [XKCD] as our clan tag.:-)

Or maybe we could make an xkcd community group

Well, there appears to be a group called "xkcd." There weren't any members, so I joined, and now there's one member! ^_^ So go ahead and join it.

Oh, and there are some new preview videos for TF2, highlighting three of the classes. And they win on epic levels.

The game is fantastic, the class videos are fantastic. I can't wait to see the Demoman one.

I'm joining the xkcd community (my Steam ID and username is ZebesianPirate; it's a sort of Metroid reference about Space Pirates who might reside on Zebes. It just became a username, I had no say in the matter). It would be pretty cool if we could team up as a clan, or fill up entire servers with xkcd users. I've never played with people from fora.

You can get hi-res versions through Steam, much nicer than youtube. Checkout the TV ad for the Orange Box while you're there.

Sure, technical issues would cause performance problems. And the gameplay issues would make it a very bad idea.

But... I want a mod that adds a tenth class to TF2: Portal Gun Guy!

Also I love the meet the characters videos, can't wait for the rest.

I've played it, and I enjoy it.

The doctors rock. The soldiers rock. The demoman rocks.

Heck, everything rocks. It's so well balanced.

Did someone mention an [XKCD] clan? I'm listening...

I still can't believe they have made PvP healing *fun*, as well as something that gets on the scoreboard if done right. Each of the 9 classes is fun and the whole things feels very balanced... it's such a massive difference to the crapfest that in World of Warcraft "PvP". All the fun of the original Quake World Team Fortress, but with Valve's loving touch to balance it out and make it perfect. Sometimes, simple is better.

Also:

Looks like the person who made the group accidentally left, leaving it ownerless, and rejoined. Hopefully should be fixable.

Team Fortress 2 Scripty Goodness!

Create a file called autoexec.cfg in [...]\Steam\steamapps\<account>\team fortress 2\tf\cfg
Any commands in there will be executed whenever you start TF2; you can also run "exec autoexec" from the console to re-run it again right now.

Rocket Jumping the Easy Way
Spoiler:
Sure, you can do this manually but this makes it easier and gets more distance for less damage and is more reliable. Just look down and hit f (or whatever key you bind)

Code: Select all

//--- Rocket Jump -------------------------------------------

alias +rocketjump "+jump;+duck;wait;+attack"
alias -rocketjump "-jump;-attack;wait;wait;wait;-duck"
bind f +rocketjump

Duckjump
Spoiler:
Why bother holding crouch when you jump to get onto tricky object when you can automate it!

Code: Select all

alias +crouchjump "+jump;+duck"
alias -crouchjump "-jump;-duck"
bind space +crouchjump

Duck Toggle
Spoiler:
Useful if you plan to be hiding behind something for an extended period of time. (e.g.: hiding behind your sentry, swinging that wrench!)

Code: Select all

//--- Duck Toggle -------------------------------------------

alias duckToggle "duck1"
alias duck1 "+duck; alias duckToggle duck2"
alias duck2 "-duck; alias duckToggle duck1"
bind "b" "duckToggle"

Spy Autoreclock
Spoiler:
This will have you auto reclock after you attack, which is one less thing to worry about when being a spy

Code: Select all

// --- Spy auto recloak -------------------------------------------------
//
// Based on code by Patty, found on Team Fortress 2 Fort forums

//MAKES IT SO THAT AS SOON AS YOU STOP ATTACKING YOU AUTOMATICALLY REDISGUISE
alias +backstab1 "+attack"
alias -backstab1 "-attack; lastdisguise"
bind "mouse1" "+backstab1"
//bind "mouse3" "slot3"

Sentry Killer
Spoiler:
Just hold V while looking at a building until the sapper goes on. Then get the hell away before an angry engineer attacks you! (or... stab him in the back when he runs over to fix what you broke.)

Code: Select all

//--- Sentry Killer -------------------------------------------

alias +destsent "slot2; +attack"
alias -destsent "-attack; wait; slot3"
bind v  +destsent

Spy quick disguise select
Spoiler:
Important: you must use F10 to select what colour disguise you want.
The chosen colour will briefly show in the top left of your screen.
Then the function keys choose a class to disguise as, in the same order as character select.
You'll have to rebind the screenshot key to something other than F5 by the way.

Code: Select all

// -- Spy Stuff ---------------------------------------------
//
// Based on code by Patty, found on Team Fortress 2 Fort forums

developer 1
//echo "***LOADING CUSTOM SPY SCRIPTS 1.1***"
echo "***USE F10 TO SET DISGUISE COLOUR!***"
wait 100
developer 0

//BLUE TEAM ALIASES
alias redscout "disguise 1 2"
alias redsniper "disguise 2 2"
alias redsoldier "disguise 3 2"
alias reddemoman "disguise 4 2"
alias redmedic "disguise 5 2"
alias redhwguy "disguise 6 2"
alias redpyro "disguise 7 2"
alias redspy "disguise 8 2"
alias redengineer "disguise 9 2"

//RED TEAM ALIASES
alias bluscout "disguise 1 1"
alias blusniper "disguise 2 1"
alias blusoldier "disguise 3 1"
alias bludemoman "disguise 4 1"
alias blumedic "disguise 5 1"
alias bluhwguy "disguise 6 1"
alias blupyro "disguise 7 1"
alias bluspy "disguise 8 1"
alias bluengineer "disguise 9 1"

//Sets F1-F9 to disguise into each class
alias REDTEAMBIND "bind f1 redscout; bind f2 redsoldier; bind f3 redpyro; bind f4 reddemoman; bind f5 redhwguy ; bind f6 redengineer; bind f7 redmedic; bind f8 redsniper; bind f9 redengineer"
alias BLUTEAMBIND "bind f1 bluscout; bind f2 blusoldier; bind f3 blupyro; bind f4 bludemoman; bind f5 bluhwguy ; bind f6 bluengineer; bind f7 blumedic; bind f8 blusniper; bind f9 bluengineer"

//Print the colour of the next disguise to top left of screen
alias REDANNOUNCE "developer 1; echo red ***WILL DISGUISE AS RED***; wait 100; developer 0"
alias BLUANNOUNCE "developer 1; echo blue ***WILL DISGUISE AS BLUE***; wait 100; developer 0"

//Change bindings to desired colour.
alias SETRED "REDTEAMBIND; REDANNOUNCE; TOGGLETOBLU"
alias SETBLU "BLUTEAMBIND; BLUANNOUNCE; TOGGLETORED"
alias CHANGECOLOUR "SETRED"
Bind "F10" "CHANGECOLOUR"

alias TOGGLETORED "alias CHANGECOLOUR SETRED"
alias TOGGLETOBLU "alias CHANGECOLOUR SETBLU"

Observer mode fix
Spoiler:
Switching what you're looking at in observer mode works only if the key is bound to the exact command, not a script that does the same thing. These three bindings make sure you can still change view properly.

Code: Select all

// ---- Observer mode controls

// the observer controls get broken by scripts, so the key
// bindings are redone here.
bind [ +attack2
bind ] +attack
bind \ +jump

The demoman's sticky bomb jump is incredibly effective, propelling you much farther than a rocket jump, especially if you use two bombs. I've found that with the right angle, I can jump between the battlements on 2fort. Of course, damage is an issue.

DrStalker wrote:Scripty goodness

You can also make cfg files like scout.cfg, engineer.cfg, etc, and they'll automatically be execed when you use that class. So you could have the crouch toggle only work with engineer, and the rocket jump bind only be with soldier, spy-related things only work with spy.

I need to update my demoman spiel. The stickybombs are much more effective than I first thought. A demo man with ubercharge can take out several turrets with one salvo. The big thing is that the engineer can't repair through the damage since it's all instant.

Aaah... TF2. I haven't played in about a week, but I should be on sometime tonight.

Look up SpacialVekter if you get a chance. I'd join the xkcd clan, but I'm already in [BSF].

Stalker: Hell yes, I'll get in a group to get Friends Like These. We can steal my clan's server. >:D

Anyhow, I <3 SPIES. I still have yet to get good with sapping and stabbing someone, but one of my best spy stories is such:

I was on Hydro, on one of the last points, disguised as a Demoman. Anyhow, a fight breaks out, and I'm about to suicide stab the Heavy that's pretty much got the whole point turtled by himself. I get plinked a few times by the Reds (I'm on blue) and call for a medic. Right as I do, the medic calls out his Uber, so I'm like "Well shit. Stabby tiem.", until the fucking medic UBERS ME. Well then the fucking shit hits the fan. I'm laughing my ass off, my roomie comes in to see why I'm laughing like a madman, and I'm stabbing almost everyone in the back before the Med realizes what he's done.

Funniest thing ever.

This game is really awesome. I just can't get enough of it :D My favorite map is Gravel Pit, and my favorite classes are currently the Scout, the Spy and the Medic.

I've binded an attack toggle button to the MMB - it's waaay more comfortable to play the Medic this way. It's really just a modified version of the duck toggle script that DrStalker already posted here.

My Steam ID is Kao, if anyone cares.

I don't think we're a clan as such, just a Steam community group. Also, 99% sure I've never played with anybody from xkcd. We should set up a play time sometime, if there's enough people playing TF2.

and
http://fsi.hlstatsx.com - our crazy stat tracker.

We have a get-together every thursday night around 7pm est.

When I get home I'll post up the IP for the server I hang out on. It's 24/7 2Fort, so you might not like it, but it's a 32 man server so it's always chaos and usually ends in stalemate, actually. I had a score of 256 at stalemate two nights ago.

As for spying, I don't much, but I do kill them a lot. A lot. People just don't act right when spying.

We don't really need to if everyone joins a group in steam community. There is one, called xkcd, but there's no owner afaik... I think he left and came back and lost admin privileges.

We could make a new one, though. It's as easy as clicking a button.

Oh man, it would be awesome if I could get my two groups to battle to the death!

So there's this server I play on sometimes, NeedleFeast. It's empty a *lot*, pretty fast, and best of all (in my opinion) it's got AllTalk switched on, so RED and BLU can hear each other. It makes the game a much more fun, casual experience and breeds a lot more joking around and familiarity with the right people. If you guys are interested / can get on the server with a ping of <100 we should try it sometime.

Needlefest is fine, but I HATE Alltalk. Since half the time I'm on WoW, talking on Ventrilo, I'm too used to talking to only my team. >.>

One of my faves is Bowser's Koopa Castle of AWESOME. They have some cool votemap addons, not to mention quick respawns and an awesome AYB soundbyte at the end of a round. :D

Too bad is almost always full. D:

Playing psychological games with the people on the other team (are they going to A? are they going to B?) while conversing on team chat is pretty awesome. Plus, you can talk and everyone can hear you after you're dead, and you can actually have a conversation and hang out while you're playing a game with friends. I loooove alltalk with the right people on the server.

Really, the main draw is that it's empty a lot and has a really nice ping where I'm at. The servers I usually play on, Penny Arcade's, are pretty good but full constantly, so that's kind of out.

If anybody wants to join, they're welcome, because the server doesn't have a password. To make sure I get a spot I'll be there (on the probably empty server) sometime around 6:30-6:45.

Not so much related to TF2, but more our Steam group. Watch out for the guy posing as an automated message, he's trying to steal people's Steam accounts. (Really pathetic message too :P). I figured some people might like to know that.

So what are everybody's kill records? I'm sitting at a top of 31 kills with demoman, followed by 23 with engineer. It tapers off from there, lowest being 9 with scout.

Also, my steamid is Twasbrillig. Feel free to add me.

I usually go heavy.
