Those woodland areas are pretty huge. And when you can't see a zombie through the trees until you're on top of them, they're pretty dangerous.

Finally get my close combat skill! 100 xp feels like a lot when you suck.

I think I'm done with Urban Dead. The big bash is unstoppable and roaming zombies can't even get in to buildings that are even moderately defended. Plus, shotguns are far worse than pistols so it's not very exciting for me anymore.

Yeah... it's not just the Big Bash though, I think that everybody has abandoned Malton and headed for Monroeville instead, where it's the opposite case - it's really really hard to find zombies...

I have no idea how I'm supposed to get XP as a zombie. At least, fairly quickly.

Or is 4-8 points a day normal XP gain?

The theoretical best you should expect for an unleveled zombie is 0.25*2*50 = 25 xp per day. I think you only get half that if smashing zombies and barricades instead, so that's 12.5 xp per day. This assumes no standing up time, no walking time, and you spend all 50 AP making attacks, so you'd normally get less than this.

In conclusion: being a zombie sucks until you level up.

In other news, my Monroeville guy almost got PK'ed! Shot down to 10 xp and then he buggered off. I spent all day getting FAKs in the hospital...

Edit: I see what's gone wrong. The Dead, a group formed from the Something Awful forum number one thousand, five hundred and seventy one zeds. That's a game-turning number right there.

Holy rotten-zombie Jesus, Batman! No wonder.

Where are you in Monroeville? And did you catch the name of the group that the PKer was in? I just got my second pistol skill, and will start hunting PKers pretty soon. PK'ing in Monroeville is pretty serious griefing. Just fyi, I'm just north of Spaulding at the moment, grabbing some supplies.

Does anyone want to come back to Parslow? I have a very low-level alt - after I get free running, I think I'll go straight down the NT route.

I'm only playing one Malton alt, because I have two alts in Monroeville.

It doesn't look very safe, but sure, I'll head my zombie over there if you've got a revive for me :)

My Monroeville alt is in Oak Hill. He's done a bit of a tour of the city (now that the map is complete), visiting Newtown and everything.

I'm actually around 230 XP from being able to give revives (80 if I don't bother with free running, but if I don't get free running, I'll die.)

So, its unlikely I'll be able to give revives before Easter, and I won't be on teh fora much over Easter. You've actually more chance of getting a random revive than getting one from me (though, if I could give you a revive, I would).

Edit: I'm in Spracklingbank, if that helps. Doesn't look too dangerous here.

Edit the IInd: Actually, I just got NT employment. Screw free running, DNA extractors can get me experience.

Canyonaro's Theme Song

Can you name the corpse with blood red eyes,
smells like burnt steak and eats you alive,

Canyonaro, Canyonaro,

Well it goes real slow with the atrophy,
it's the country-fried zombie the survivors flee,

Canyonaro-whoa, Canyonaro,

Hey, Hey!

(The Malton Zombie Commission has ruled
Canyonaro unsafe for socializing or dating.)

Canyonaro!

Six feet tall, three feet wide
Twenty-two stone of Canadian pride,

Canyonaro, Canyonaro,

Top of the line in undead corpse,
Unexplained fires are a matter of course,

Canyonaro, Canyonaro,

He blinds everybody by devouring their eyes,
Then chews on your tongue to stifle your cries,

Canyonaro-whoa, Canyonaro.

Man, I die really fast. I got revived once, which made me happy, but less than one day later zombies break into my safe house. After several stupid moves I end up sleeping in a parking lot like some bum while I get my face chewed off.
So it goes.

Especially as a zombie, where you're limited to pretty much 40 actions per day (50 minus the 10 for standing up, since you WILL be killed), and of those 40, you have to spend all of them attacking other zombies, getting maybe 12 XP, so... eight days to get to level 2.

Whee.

I was doing pretty well in Monroeville, was at a higher level than any other survivor I met, then I just gave up. The clicking and waiting got too much for me.

It'd be cooler if the combat took more than clicking a lot.

A few things:

- If you are on a wireless internet connection (such as iBurst or a cellphone connection), and you hit the 160 limit on actions, simply reconnecting will cycle you to another IP address and refresh your limit.
- My god, this game's combat is hit-and-miss! (at least with newbies).
- What's the best newbie class, in your opinion? I'm a necrotech guy, and the DNA extractor is good XP, but I fear the day that someone actually attacks me.

I may be wrong, but.. here's what happens in my experience.

I tell the game to do something, it sends data back and forth or whatever the hell it does that takes 15 seconds and my action resolves. My actions have a normal chance of success..

If, however, I tell the game to do something and it resolves nigh-instantly, if I keep repeating the action (Attacking, for example), the result is the same. Usually this doesn't last more than six actions, but if I'm missing.. I wiff all six attacks and burn 6 action points doing it. If I hit, though... it's lovely. So very lovely.

As an aside, I just play as a Zombie now, and went ahead and put all my skillpoints in that... because I have some stupid infection that always kills me and rezombifies me should I actually get revived. So screw y'all live ones.. Imma eat yer brains.

That's exactly what happens to me. Here's true screwage: on my zombie alt, I found a person in a deserted building, and I was on 40 AP. The first hit I grabbed a hold of him (with tangling grasp), and then proceeded to miss 35 times in a row with (supposedly) 50% accuracy :x

My guess is it's probably a bug with tangling grasp(see the bottom of that little section). So yeah, don't buy tangling grasp. It's worked properly all of twice for me (in at least 20 days with it).

No, I didn't.. mostly because I have no idea if the benefit of that (which is.. what exactly?) is better than being able to hit harder and more often.

At the moment, I've got Vigour Mortis, Death Grip, and Memories of Life.

It's more of a long-term strategy thing - it means people waste syringes on you. The mild inconvenience of having to jump off a building isn't that big a deal really.

Aha! You've been bitten by an 'infection' zombie. Make sure you have full AP for when you stand up from being revived, as each action you take (while infected - speaking doesn't count as a action for infections so you can ask for a heal) takes 1hp. But it only takes one FAK to cure your infection and you can live normally.
Anything I said pre-2014 that you want to quote me on, just run it past me to check I still agree with myself.

....but first you have to get a First Aid Kit.

I think I'll just munch on people as at this point, most of my experience has been spent on being a zombie. I think I can shoot somewhat less shitty as a person.... and that's about it. Mostly, I just got tired of finding a place to stash myself for the night, emerging the next day, hitting a couple of deadies and when I try to get back in.. I somehow couldn't find my way past the barricades.

WTF.

So screw it. I'll just knock'em down and eat the creamy centers.

Well, it's good to know it's fun on the zombie side. I found being a low level zombie pretty boring - it's pretty hard to find anyone to munch on. Then again, that was when the SA forums had invaded with a vast army of undead.

There is like no incentive in this game. If you die, you can get revived. If you got revived, you can just get killed again. There's no survival aspect to it. There is if you have a group against other groups, but the worst thing you can do to other groups is turn them into zombies. Temporarily. And zombies are cool in this game, anyway. The only real fun comes from griefing, which is kind of a base thing to do but at least you can make something sort of real happen. Then that person turns you into a zombie one way or another. Then you play the game as a zombie. Just sorta lettin that happen.
And if you're a zombie you can ruin buildings and camp out with your zombie gaggle in them. Or go start a siege that takes months in real time. It's kind of hard for me to keep thinking of that as fun.

Actually that can be quite hard if you die in a zombie controlled area, I had to spend ages as a zombie before.

Also, now I can revive people! I have a largish stock of syringes, but the only problem is that I'm down in Osmondville, and to go north I'd have to push through the zombie hordes. (Profile again.)

Hey, I haven't been playing for a while. So, I haven't been updating the group page. If they're still there, then most of the xkcd people are hanging out at the Parslow Building, Randallbank (could we ever end up anywhere else? Possibly, I haven't played for a while :P ). I'm trying to get a revive at Breddy Park, but in case no-one's in Randallbank, you might want to look at this map, and pick a suburb that isn't too red (lots of zombies!), or too green (no zombies!). If you've been playing for a while, then you've probably got the hang of this already. But my advise is to find a safehouse (preferably not a resource building, because they get attacked more, but fire stations tend not to get over-barricaded, so if you don't have free running, they're a good bet- also, fireaxes!), and find a way to get experience. Also, if your safehouse gets over-barricaded, take it down before you leave (but probably explain what you're doing, so people don't think you're griefing) so you can get back in afterwards, because its easier to take down barricades from the inside and you really don't want to be stuck outside.

If you got eaten (hey, it happens!), come to randallbank, and I'll revive you (assuming I've been revived). Its fairly central!

(also, I realise you might not come back here, but I hope it would be useful advise to anyone. Also, if you want to be in the xkcd memberlist on the UD wiki, PM me)
