R/B/Y are the best, after that, they were basically just exploiting the name to sell the same game over again.

I disagree, gold and silver were major improvements over red and blue.
Or something to that effect. Hell, I don't know.

Seconded.
You're thinking of a Pegasus. Unicorns don't fly, they just sort of... plummet.

The 'story' originated with Red and Green (did Blue come out in Japan?), and was heavily modified to fit in an anime show - One of the most annoying things about yellow for me was the desperate need for it to follow said 'story'...

EXAMPLE: There was one episode in which the heroes encountered a boy with a sandshrew which had won 100 battles without a single loss... this entire half-hour of the show was based on a youngster on the path to rock tunnel who said this.

PS: On rereading before posting, I realise that the example could be taken to mean that that character from the game was based on that episode, and all I've done is find a link between the two... but I'm still absolutely certain that the games came first.

Ah. Well, I was a big fan of the show at the time and didn't know any better so I liked that the game followed the show. But that's about all I liked.

I voted for Diamond/Pearl. Each generation GameFreak has added to the battling aspect and made it better, so I guess that's why. I love the physical/special split and a BUNCH of old Pokemon that needed evolutions got them, so...GO D/P!

Not to put down the other 3 generations.
Insert witty phrase here.

I still have all of my Pokémon cards. There are what I would consider to be way too many of them. Didn't get a console until the initial craze had more or less passed, and even then it was a PlayStation, so I don't really have much experience of the Gameboy games. I quite liked Pokémon Stadium at the time, though.
This is a placeholder until I think of something more creative to put here.

For me would have to be crystal and yellow (crystal is just silve/gold with improvements, yellow is just red/blue with improvements.) Played the hell out of them the last year of school. I was always into creating weird pokemon with the glitches they left in the game (missingo, coastal snorlax ect.) Combined with the item dupe i remember getting a fucked up snorlax from the coast and using rare candy to get him up to level 199, his life bar took up 3 lengths of the screen. Also got mew threw the forced spawn you could do in the first generation of games (just google it if you want to know how.) What killed the games for me was when we got a little thing called the monster brain. It was a cartridge you plug the games into that then plugs into your gameboy (think like sonic and knuckles on the genesis.) You could basically generate any pokemon with any stats, any item, give yourself all the badges, teleport abilities and be able to save multiple games onto the monster brain. I guess cheating does take the fun out of a game.

I'm not really into pokémon

I still have a soft spot in my heart for G/S/C (though I never actually played Crystal. I thought they hit a good balance between the (relatively) small number of pokémon in the first generations and the added features of the later generations. (Though this might have something to do with the fact that it was after those games that I stopped caring about pokémon).

Okay my team is like this so far.

Empoleon @leftovers
EVs: Random, I did the whole storyline with him
-Stealth Rock
-Surf
-Roar
-Ice Beam

Togekiss @metronome
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 100HP 100Speed (Didn't bother training, just used drugs)
-Roost
-Aura Sphere
-Air Slash
-Yawn (no Thunder Wave yet :-( )

Azelf @Life Orb
EVs: 30HP 100SpA 100Speed (Didn't bother training, just used drugs)
-Confusion (No psychic yet :-( )
-Rest (He can take a decent beating, + life orb this comes in handy)
-Future Sight (This sucks, but it's better then confusion and works okay with rest)
-Nasty Plot (Overpowered imho)

I'm training up a Gardevoir with full EVs and Nature and everything.

So soon I'll probably replace Azelf with Gardevoir.

Gardevoir @Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Ability: Trace
EVs: 56HP 252SpA 200Speed (I'm at 100 Speed at the moment, only got 100 to go because I've finished EVs)
- Calm Mind (Overpowered imho)
- Psychic (Powerful STAB)
- Focus Blast (To cover weaknesses)
- Will-O-Wisp (Physical Sweepers beware)

Hmm gunna have to catch some stupid munchlaxs to get more Leftovers.. or maybe get a linoone with pickup...

Also thinking about Jolteon...

Jolteon @Leftovers
Nature: Timid
EVs: Max HP and Speed
-Agility
-Baton Pass
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball

So I can remove a weakness to electricity (Togekiss and Empoleon are both electric weak) and also Agility pass to Togekiss (because my togekiss isn't fully speed EV trained) so I can make sure to paraflinch people.

Edit:

OKAY! I just got heaps lucky and traded a Flaaffy for a Pokerus'ed Metagross so now I'm breeding it and spreading the pokerus around and I've totally changed my team

***Lopunny @Iron Ball
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Klutz
EVs: 160 Hp /96 Atk / 252 Spe
- Return
- Fling
- Baton Pass
- Agility

Metagross @Life Orb
Nature: Jolly (Too impatient to get Adamant)
EVs: 152 HP / 252 Atk / 104 Spe
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch
- Explosion (Don't have emerald to get Thunderpunch :-( )

Gardevoir @Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Ability: Trace
EVs: 56 HP / 252 SpA / 200 Spe
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp

But yeah, missingno was great, if only for the complete chaos it caused. However, if you want to experiment with messed up missingno, I recommend an emulator of some sort...

One annoying feature of those ultra-high-levels: They level up from >100 to 100. And lose stats.

That's why you only use them in battles against other humans where you don't get any experience.

You know, the games would be so much better if they changed the formula just the tiniest bit. I mean, there was a weak sort of storyline in all of them, but it always circles back to "i wants ta be a mastah!!1"

Why can't I join up with Team Rocket or whoever and be a pokemon thief? Why aren't there any awesome side-quest chains? Why can't I start my own gym?

Silly as it sounds, I'll bet Pokemon would make a hella-decent MMO if they had the right people developing it.

Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure Ruby/Sapphire was the best. It had reasonably epic storyline, and some cute/cool critters to collect.

I'm curious what teams people run, I'm still trying to perfect my Battle Tower team.

This is my Battle Tower team right now.

Spoiler:
Name: Abyssion (Metagross) @Life Orb
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 152 Hp / 252 Atk / 104 Speed
-Agility
-Earthquake
-Pursuit
-Meteor Mash

I was too lazy to breed until I got Adamant. Also, Pursuit is there because I have nothinig else to give it... the Chansey keeps stopping at 9 rounds so I can't get explosion (though I've only tried a few times). And I don't have Emerald.

He does a fair bit of damage, and physical walls well.

Name: Yuki (Female Gardevoir) @Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Ability: Trace
EVs: 56 Hp / 252 Sp.Atk / 200 Speed
-Psychic
-Wish
-Thunderbolt
-Calm Mind

My favourite pokemon, special sweep with Calm Mind. Also Wish Support, but hopefully soon I'll pick up a Will-o-Wisp TM. Does decently well at special walling.

Name: Lenneth (Female Weavile) @Expert Belt
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 40 Hp / 252 Atk / 216 Speed
-Night Slash
-Brick Break
-Swords Dance
-Ice Punch

Weavile is cool, physical sweeps ridiculously well.
------------------------------------------------------------

I know... I need a mixed wall.. or at the least a dedicated one.. maybe a Dusknoir or Empoleon

At the very least I need something to counter fire...

Yeah, I'd want it to be character based. I'm not sure how well the Pokemon formula would translate into a guild community.

Hmm...Guild = Gym, Any player desiring your gym's badge would have to go defeat x guild members and the guild leader to get it, then you have a leaderboard of players with the most badges. Simple.

Ahh, Pokemanz. I got Yellow Version when I was like seven, along with my very first handheld, a Game Boy Color. I finished it quickly, and caught and trained my favorite Pokemon ever, Mewtwo (yeah I know it's not very original shut up). When I got Silver, I traded over my favorites from Yellow, and then over to Crystal once I got that. I really liked Crystal more than Yellow. If you ask me, they're adding improvements with each successive generation, but the core gameplay mechanic is becoming tired. I'm sure the features in Pearl and Diamond are excellent compared to Crystal, but it's really the same thing repackaged again with a few new fun extras. Nevertheless, I still pull out the old cartridge and play it every once in a while. G/S+C is definitely my favorite generation, although as I haven't played anything after Ruby/Sapphire, I may not be the most objective of judges.
All is well. We are not like the others.

@Amnesiasoft: *Smacks forehead* My god, why didn't I think of that? That's simple and sensible; brilliant!

And as a random off-shoot, my favorite pokemon has always been Vaporeon, although they royally fucked up the picture when they made cards out of it.

Gold/Silver were (IMO) easily the best.

1) New and old pokemon.
2) Better (and more balanced) PokeTypes.
3) HUGE MAP.
4) You get to re-face the old Gym Leaders, so if you had memories about those Leaders, it was like nostalgia with a twist
5) The plot line was a little more interesting.
6) The replayability is amazing. There were some Pokemon I only knew about until the third time I played.

Does anyone else want a Pokemon MMORPG? I would die if they came out with a balanced, good, and fun PokeMMORPG.

Y/R/B was win. I got the Pokemon Gameboy, which had Pikachu and a Poke ball around the power light. I was a badass.

Anything past those three I label a crime against the true essence of Pokemon.

Oh hell yeah! Specifically for this reason I taught my Raichu the fighting move Submission (just to mess up rock/ground types) and my Typhlosion (Novio :D) Thunder Punch
My Tyranitar also knew Fire Punch, but my friends usualy pitted water pokemon against it as opposed to grass ¬_¬

I remember playing ye olde Pokemon Silver when you head back to Kanto and are fighting the original 8 Gyms. Blaine on Cinnabar Island (Fire leader) had a nice Magmar that would quite often pull out a Thunderpunch, which certainly screwed you if all you had was an equivalent level Gyarados.

My vote actually goes to Yellow since Pikachu followed you everywhere. You really were Ash!

But then again, I play Silver a lot, and I like that version. After that, it just got bad.
You get 500 xp.

I've shown my team why doesn't anyone join in the fun? D:

Fine, if you insist.
Not going to bother with EVs, mostly because I can't remember them and I'm too lazy to look them up now.

Nice - Rain Dance teams are cool.

That Lidicolo is going to be hard to kill haha.

Man - Left Overs + Ability + Leech Seed, if you ever have trouble just protect and laugh at them when you recover a ridiculous amount of HP.

Do you rain dance with Bronzong and switch out or fight until explode?

How do you counter Abomasnow?

Hmm I need to breed a Bronzong with my new ditto I found.

Ditto - #132 (Timid)
HP: 30
Att: 25
Def: 31
SpA: 21
SpD: 8 - 9
Speed: 0

Kickass IVs but crappy nature - ah well.

Heh, glad you liked it.

Fixed that spelling for you. <_< And yes, it's my special sponge. And it is hard to kill unless you're doing obscene amounts of damage anyway. Best part is it doesn't really mind most statuses.

Gelsamel wrote:Do you rain dance with Bronzong and switch out or fight until explode?

I usually Dance ASAP, then either use Hypnosis or Gyro Ball if it's worth it, switch otherwise. Explosion is filler more than anything, but it's useful for destroying Blissey on occasion.

Gelsamel wrote:How do you counter Abomasnow?

I haven't actually faced one with this team in particular, but I'd imagine both Bronzong and Toxicroak could do some damage, and Ludicolo could stall for a while, though Leech Seed won't work on the tree.

I wish I had the patience to IV breed. ;_; I'm seriously considering getting an AR or something just so I don't have to bother with the tedium.
