telcontar42 wrote:The problem with the holy strength is that it really does give you card disadvantage. You can get a 1/1 with +1/+2 on the second turn, but then on your opponents third or fourth turn, if they play any creature removal or a bigger creature then you have spent two cards, they have spent one, and you haven't gained any advantage. The mana cost of holy strength is low, but you have to consider that the full cost is 1 mana and 1 card, and that's just too much for +1/+2.

As for this deck, the chalice and the goblet are pretty terrible cards IMO, so I would drop those. Also, I would get rid of the vectis dominator. Letting your opponent choose what happens makes it a really weak card. Also, I would agree that you should take out the unholy strengths for the same reasons as the holy strength. Other than that, a bit more removal might be nice. Also, it is a pretty low mana cost deck but also looks like a fairly slow deck. I know cost is probably an issue, but a few big nasty drops for later in the game could help.

Good points. I'm looking into it as I type. I've got a few candidates for replacement, but nothing too solid. I'm actually looking into doing a major revision on my White deck before I edit the other. Thanks for the input, it's given me a few new ideas.

Magic Workstation. You can find it at www.magicworkstation.com. It's a free, card game simulator, basically an open-ended MTGOII without the rule enforcement, meaning you enforce all rules yourself.

right now it doesn't have the Zendikar set in there, but you can add it yourself using a text spoiler, which you can locate on the MTGSalvation fora.

For some reason I thought that Bloom Tender was in the Alara block. How irritating.
I would love to give that a go with you az001.

I went to zendikar pre-release and got super lucky. I got Sorin Markov, and a shiney iona shield of emeria. Did pretty good. Then later on bought a box.

With that alone I got Every Mythic except for the new chandra, nissa, and 1 other one. First crack of my box I got Lotus Cobra.

Also, soldier decks are awesome on a budget. Using just the cards I own, I have a decent soldier deck. Nothing amazing, I will write it up here sometime, and you guys can pick it apart.

I mostly play mtgo, because I don't have many IRL mtg people, and because mtgo is slightly cheaper. But, for shiggles, I got a Zendikar booster the other day. It contained a Felidar Sovereign. Yay! (I guess). I may use it to construct a EDH deck, on account of you never need a playset for them, so they can be quite cheap. I'm looking forward to playing Zendikar online, though, on account of I love monogreen to death.

Btw, well done on the Cobra, GoJoe. Starcitygames are pricing them at USD30.00 at the moment. I don't imagine they'll get cheaper anytime soon.

I was thinking about including either Fireblast (lets me hit for 4, usually as a finisher, when tapped out) or Browbeat (opponents choice of take 5 damage or let me draw 3 cards (which together are probably worth more than 5 damage)) in place of LIghtning Axe. Are either of these worth using, or would I be making a mistake?

Ok, from memory here is my soldier deck

+2 Baneslayer Angels
+1 Serra's Angel (ran out of baneslayers, and my flat does not allow proxies)
+2 Captain of the watch (love this card)
+4 Veteren Armoursmith
+4 Veteren Swordsmith
+1 Rohx Pikemaster

Then two other creature cards that I will have to tell you when I get home...

+2 armored ascensions
+1 asha's favor
+2 Oblivion rings

Then 3 other spells that I can not remember at the time...

+16 plains I think...

Go with Fireblast if you have the choice, Browbeat just isn't worth it these days. Not when you can be running Howling Mine.

It looks...not that much like any soldier deck I've ever seen. Here's an example of the new Soldier decks, that will be replacing the Kithkin decks:

Spoiler:
21x Plains

4x Elite Vanguard
4x Kazandu Blademaster
4x Veteran Swordsmith
4x Kor Aeronaut
4x Knight of the White Orchid (yes, I know it's not a soldier, but it's ability is just that awesome)

4x Honor the Pure
4x Brave the Elements
4x Path to Exile
4x Conqueror's Pledge
3x Ajani Goldmane

SB
----------------------------------
3x Elspeth Knight-Errant
4x Celestial Purge
4x Mark of Asylum
4x Kor Sanctifiers

It's fast, it's aggressive, and they can't two for one you (usually).

I had a lot of time today to work on and refine my
combo from the last page, and have done so. Check it out at

Comment here or there, I don't care, I'm pretty much justlooking for feedback on my first-ever infinite combo.

I'm probably not going to bother putting together the cards for this in real life, it'd get me lynched in casual play with my friends, and thrown out of the place we play on Fridays. This is mostly just a thought experiment.

Your curve is very low...I think you can stand to lose about 2 land for another Terminate and Pulse main deck, then substitute Doom Blade in SB with 3x Disfigure.

So this deck looks completely ridiculous for Zendikar extended, and plays as ridiculously as it looks:

1 Mountain
1 Forest
2 Temple Garden
2 Stomping Ground
2 Sacred Foundry
4 Arid Mesa
2 Scalding Tarn
3 Verdant Catacombs
3 Misty Rainforest
2 Marsh Flats

4 Kird Ape
4 Wild Nacatl
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Keldon Marauders
2 Knight of the Reliquary
4 Steppe Lynx

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Lightning Helix
4 Rift Bolt
4 Tarfire

Steppe Lynx is ridiculous. That is all. I am usually attacking for 3 (with Nacatl) or 4 (with Steppe Lynx) on turn two -- while playing other things -- and more later.

Why Tarfire over Burst Lightning? Isn't Burst Lightning strictly better? Other than that, I'm jealous of anyone who can afford the manabase needed for that deck.

It pumps Tarmogoyf. I was actually playing with Lava Spike in that slot for the extra damage, but I might try Burst Lightning as well... Most of the time it's the Lynxes and Nacatls doing the combat work anyway, so I'm not even sure Tarmogoyf is all that important...

The thing I really like about this deck is that Faeries just. can't. deal. I haven't tested it against much else yet since I don't really know the format all that well. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty sick against everything though.

You have more Fetchlands than you have actual lands. You shouldn't do that. Also, you should play Engineered Explosives over Tarfire, that or Umezawa's Jitte.

Oh, I didn't realize that tribal counted as a card type. I guess that's probably because I looked at Tarmogoyf back when it first came out, before tribal was a type.

They printed a Tribal card in Future Sight as well, and didn't Tarmogoyf have Tribal printed right in its reminder text?

Seriously. Don't add bad cards just for Tarmo. It's good enough on its own.

That said, I'd like to play you with my angel deck...

Green deck: Final Expedition
Spoiler:
Creatures:
4 Baloth Woodcrasher
3 Borderland Ranger
3 Llanowar Elves
2 Scythe Tiger
1 Birds of Paradise
1 River Boa
1 Mold Adder
1 Awakener Druid
1 Acidic Slime
1 Cudgel Troll
1 Kalonian Behemoth

Enchantments:
3 Khalni Heart Expedition
2 Quest for the Gemblades
1 Overgrowth
1 Savage Silhouette

Sorceries/Instants
2 Howl of the Night Pack
1 Echoing Courage
1 Might of Oaks
1 Baloth Cage Trap
1 Regenerate
1 Overrun
1 Nature's Spiral
1 Primal Bellow

Lands
24 Forest
1 Turntimber Grove

White soldier/angel lifegain/enchantment deck: Visitation
Spoiler:
Creatures:
1 Captain of the Watch
1 Veteran Swordsmith
1 Veteran Armorsmith
1 Kor Skyfisher
1 Kor Hookmaster
1 Soul Warden
1 Undead Slayer
1 Blinding Mage
2 Caravan Hurda
1 World Queller
1 White Knight
1 Lightwielder Paladin
2 Shepherd of the Lost
2 Serra Angel
1 Iona, Shield of Emeria

Enchantments:
3 Pacifism
1 Journey to Nowhere
1 Cage of Hands
2 Nimbus Wings
2 Sunspring Expedition
2 Armored Ascension
1 Honor of the Pure
1 Pentarch Ward
1 Celestial Mantle
1 Sigil of the Empty Throne

Sorceries/Instants:
2 Angel's Mercy
1 Spectral Procession

Lands:
2 Kabira Crossroads
22 Plains

The green deck is pretty useful, epecially if I draw well. Two Baloth Woodcrashers on the field, and play a Forest, use a Borderland Ranger to get a Forest, or sacrifice Khalni Heart Expedition, and they become devastating. Do all those things in the same turn? Two 20/20s with trample. Sure, next turn they become 4/4 again, but they won't need to last that long.
And then there's always one or two Howl of the Night Packs with either Overrun or Echoing Courage.

The white deck is an interesting idea, in that it rather centers on me getting Sigil of the Empty Throne and then pacifying things to make destroying angels, but even if I don't get that out there, it works pretty well. Between the fliers, the lifegain, and the pacifism (Cage of Hands is there because I don't have 4 Pacifisms, and anyway, it's got a handy effect for when you're not sure if you should waste an enchantment) it tends to outlast more or less anything.

Of course! The dream makes it all make sense!
The card itself doesn't move; it rotates the playing field around it!

I can't play at all, or deckbuild. I'm strongly considering giving up on becoming good at this game and just giving my cards to one of my friends who does.

There were weekly Magic get-togethers in my social circle, but since I got cards, everyone is always busy. I have a feeling I'm that guy who's completely intolerable and ruins things for everyone by being so bad at everything.

I used to be like that, but then I started to read articles on that stuff. It helped me develop my skill into what it is today.

I just keep trying. I find that i'm not great, but I have a lot of knowledge. Also I still find it fun.

I need to work on my deck building. That's what I have the most trouble with.

Me neither, but it's a test. Once it's active...it's SO hard for you opponent to win.

LoA has always been extremely frustrating to play. It buffs the opponent's merfolk/changelings and doesn't do anything special outside of being a Lord...
