How did you manage a steady supply of TNT?
I have an absolutely gargantuan mob farm. Mob farms have a positive feedback cycle, because once you have one, you get some TNT (just leave it running in the background, open inventory and tab out) and then you can use the TNT to get lots of stone - the proper mining technique produces roughly 25 cobblestone per TNT and loads of everything else. Then you can use the cobblestone to build a bigger mob farm.

I really should be working, so instead I'll post a screenshot of it.

Here we have a single layer of the mob farm. The squares are 4x4, making the whole floor 32x32, half of which is spawning area.

2011-03-22_19.45.14.png
This is the monster as it stands. It has 10 full spawning layers so far, as well as the catching basin (a water funnel) a top plate (less stone than full walls, and leaves room for easy horizontal expansion) and uses an incinerator at the base to kill the mobs.

You mean .. Guitarfreak's OP?

You'd have to speak to him about a fix. I have no idea if he's still running a server or not. I know I'm running one, as is Psion. Anyone else here running one? Psion (and anyone else) object to me putting the details in the OP?

Go ahead, but I was forced into whitelisting the server. I'll take PMs but I might not be able to add anyone until next week, as I was also forced into moving.

I just want to build my massive underground tunnel system in peace, dammit. ;_;

Haha, thanks :)

EDIT: Ok, so, in addition to the 5 mentioned in the Readme, I just found 9 diamonds in close proximity in the Fire Base mines. That's the more than I've ever come away with in any two mining trips. . . right in the back yard!

moar EDIT: I just used the second tool on this page to send myself 10km away. The challenge was to take nothing with me, build only one shelter after the "teleport" (and change my spawn point to that area), never use beds, and find everything I think I'll need to make my way back to my bases, all on normal difficulty. No shelters along the way, fighting through each night, etc. Since I used to play on peaceful almost exlusively, I've learned a few things:

1. Slimes can be quite dangerous.
2. I hate it when there are caves above me.
3. I hate skeletons.
4. Fighting in mountainous territory is a bitch.
5. I love mushroom stew.
6. I hate trees/forests at night.

I'm about 3/4 of the way back, and it's been quite fun!

ED-IT never ends: Done with that. Actually traveled about 13km. Now I'm on my last Minecraft task. I installed Mo' Creatures, Humans+, Battle Towers, and 303's Arrows last night. Soooo much fun and craziness. Once I accomplish my goals in this world, I'm done.

I just love Minecraft. I'm addicted!

I'm so glad you guys all got me into Minecraft. My life wouldn't be complete without Minecraft.

I'm sorting my Minecraft world into layers right now. I feel like my mind is going to explode from all the possibilities of Minecraft.

I LOVE MINECRAFT!

[note - for all the people who weren't here during Wordfilter Madness, Minecraft filtered to "digital crack and Lego". Read it in that context :P]

Right now is wordfilter day.

And I just got into this as well. Though I wish the mod used for the Super Minecraft videos was updated to v1.3_01. And on the topic of mods this one will be epic if it is ever finished.

In my experience the modders who spend that much time hyping up their mods before they're released are the least likely to produce results remotely comparable to their claims, but there could always be exceptions. My cynical expection is that if you wait a few weeks there will be a post along the lines of, "Sorry guys, I've run into some family/school/work issues and I won't have the time to finish this project."

I hope it doesn't seem like I was saying there that their mod they're working on was a 'Thor' mod, rather that it's 'their mod'... just wanted to clear that up.

Nonsense, all we have to do is construct a very English-like high level type system, and then have the compiler methodically search for some program that it can prove does what we asked for.

So what if it might never actually finish compiling, it's what everyones always wanted! We'll be rich!

Wait, where are you all going? Why are you picking up rocks? Ow! Why are you throwing the rocks at me?! But it's a good idea! All I ever wanted was to study... Rosebud.

Yeah, so, a Battle Tower boss killed me without warning, and I lost all my stuff. Turned on some "cheating" mods to finish the ordeal, and from there it went downhill. I'm going to respectfully put down the digital crackpipe. It's been a fun two months or so.

Yes. No idea if the Achievement system uses 15% more CPU power (and some memory too of cause) or it's the wolves.
I would guess it's the stats, as it's got to have a hit to run them. I would guess Notch will do one of two things. Either add an option to "disable stats". Or streamline the code. But remember, in a BETA you may not be streamlining code from the get go, but after you have confirmed what you are keeping and doing.

Yeah, you don't get to call a game that's made that much income a BETA anymore. To be honest, it's surprising he's still working on it. At this point they could probably sell the game and company, and never have to work again.
