Yeah, I'm really not becoming a fan of Mojang at all. I mean, I can understand it, but Notch seems to overreact to a bunch of stuff all the time.

Although they're obviously biased, anybody read Notch's most recent tweets?

Spoiler:
Wow. Hate, insults and threats are flooding in from Yogscast fans. I'll stop biting my tongue now.

Yogscast repeatedly insulted people, talked behind their backs, refused to cooperate, and acted like total spoiled divas nonstop.

They called us "a bunch of nerds who don't know how to run a company", demanded that we pay them to come here (nobody else got paid).

And they claim they're the reason minecraft is big and that we should thank them more than anyone else in the community. They're total dicks

A kid wanted them to sign something I had signed, and they said they'd cross it out and put "fuck you" there instead.

Everyone else in the Minecraft community is all about respecting and caring. They're not. They're an isolated island of egos.

All this said, I'm very tired at the moment, and this will probably pass. I do like the work they do, very much.

Unfortunately... I don't really believe much of what Notch says any more. So while that would explain a lot, I really can't even start to imagine anyone doing that. At least, not for no good reason.

Interesting post on /r/Minecraft from a MineCon volunteer.

The first weekend of December works for me, though we'd have to coordinate time zones. How about midnight UTC on the 3rd? That works out to early evening in the States/Canada and early-ish morning for Australia/Indonesia, but it'll be late for Europeans...

I can't say I've really been much of a fan of mojang anyways as a developer. Some of the things they come up with are just very counter-intuitive to design.

But, I think part of the problem stems from the fact that he didn't handle what the yogscast was there to do very well. It seems very much that they were invited there to act as celebrities, not as some sort of thank you or to give a panel. Ergo, they weren't specifically instructed on when and where they would be required to do things--leaving a lot of assumptions in play. And, given the pseudo-journalistic nature of what they do, it'd be very hard for them to do some of that without special access.

Also, he doesn't point out when some of those actions took place. If they took place after him being a major prick to them, well it casts their actions in a different light than if they did it before.

But really, it seems to be a bunch of people who were never all that well socialized in the first place.

And apparently this guy was the staff person assigned to escort them around:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comme ... on/c31odgc

At the very least the yogscast retweeted his comment, or something.

Edit: And from reading way the fuck more of those posts than I should have, people need to learn the difference between anti-social behaviour and being a dick. Lewis sounds a hell of a lot more like the former than the latter.

Considering that I didn't have much respect for Notch to begin with, I'd be biased towards the Yogscast guys. That said, I think that if what the stuff people have been saying is true (and not horribly overblown and exaggerated), then yeah, I think that Mojang would be correct in not choosing to work with them again. If the stuff has been overblown and taken out of context though, which is what seems to have happened based on the two reddit accounts I read, then I think Notch was wrong in calling them out in such a way on twitter.

I think some of the problem is just a series of poor communications from the Yogscast team. I doubt that they've ever been invited to run this sort of panel for a large event like this, so I think it's possible that they accidentally made some offhand comments and bad jokes which, in hindsight, could be seen ans offensive and insulting.

All in all, I think that Notch's response was a major overreaction, the Yogscast team made some bad comments that were taken the wrong way, and that this issue should really have been just a private decision to not work with that team anymore.

On a semi-related note, I'd take issue with notch saying that "everyone else in the minecraft community is about respecting and caring". Not to insult anyone, but as a whole, the "official" minecraft forums are home to one of the worst game communities since WoW. There is almost nothing even resembling "respecting and caring" on that site.

Yeah, I kinda saw this coming. I agree with Xeril.

The yogscast were lifted to celebrity status and were brought there with no well-defined tasks or expectations. Of course something was going to go wrong. It'd be one of their first times (judging from their youtube videos), if not the first time, and minecon was a big event. Judging from the various posts, it would appear that nobody from Mojang actually came up to the Yogscast and explained what they were expected to do. Everyone was just in the hype and crazy party-ness that everyone thought they'd play it up on the go.

But notch is completely overdoing it too... Especially since he knows perfectly well that he'll have a moment where the yogscast can't respond to him, being travelling and all that. He should talk to them personally, and if that breaks down, he can bring it public. What he's doing is extremely crybaby-ish. His tweets even sound like someone was feeding him blatant lies.

No, the villain is Alan Rickman. Who is.... Welsh-Irish, apparently, which is British. Also, he's a wizard who only made you think he was German.

And the Sheriff of Nottingham in Morgan Freeman's "Kevin Costner can't speak with a British Accent and Doesn't Even Try" which took place... in Britian, making him Double British (a British Villain playing a British Villain), and thus counting twice.

I've been entertained and amused by the little Yogscast that I've watched, and I've often been impressed with Notch's patience with some of the more juvenile and entitled of his customers. I want to like them both. So, I'm choosing to not follow this kerfuffle. I'll stand back, wait a few weeks, and see how it works out. After all, once all parties involved have had a chance to cool down, the story may come out in a better form.

In unrelated news, I ended up at the glass dome building near a giant chessboard-in-progress. I found out that not only can you shear tall grass, you can shear those awesome pointy bushes! I also left some stuff in a chest on the chessboard, to include some wool. If the owner of the chessboard wants, I've got stacks of black ink.

Also, communarium's out of food almost. I'll rectify this tomorrow. They especially need red mushrooms; the chest's only got green.

...and Roos is working on a platformer dungeon in the Mordor quarry-mine outpost. No placing or breaking blocks or torches...and it's in progress, but if he's on, he may have you playtest if you're game. ^_^ I raegquaat a few times.

I have huge updates to make on the Sugar Cane farm that nbonaparte and I started earlier today. It is now wired underground. I got bored and decided to give it a shot, and succeeded. There is a pressure plate in the very center that you step on to activate all the pistons. I wouldn't recommend looking at the wiring underneath. I didn't feel like using torches on most of it so I sealed it off to only enough space for the redstone so mobs can't spawn.

Relating to that, we need to make sure to include lights in each unit as I noticed a zombie stuck at the bottom of the megatower earlier today.

I should note on the wiring issue that the one on the left (from facing the currently expanded one) is not very well wired. I would recommend just staying away from it until I get on and can wire it well.

Southern Skyway Line is now under construction. Soon, all residents within the Sky Collective (meem, or anyone else, want a plot/embassy?) will have personal one-way cart systems that will take them to spawn and back. Another branch takes people to the southern line, past highly mineral-rich mine areas (including the stronghold remains) and the giant Sugar Cane farm. More farms may soon follow.

According to thier Twitter the Bukkit folks are still working on the update.

http://twitter.com/#!/CraftBukkit

So basically there's no way for us to even guess if it'll be five minutes or five week. (In much the same way as us folks who're hundreds of miles from Minecon have no way to guess who's the real bad guy in Notch and Yogcast's silly little tiff.)

So, if you were wondering what was that lousy piece of land with glass and cobblestone near the central railway station, it has now been transformed into a post-apocalyptic abandoned building, with a roof top garden and a semi buried greenhouse. And a sentient chicken in the ground floor farm (It watches you!!!).

Thank you! I was getting extremely confused at where all the minecarts were going. I mean, I'm very happy to have guests, but it's still kind of baffling. I should also really place the powered track to send unused carts back to spawn...

I do need to decide in general, though. Do people need to travel more often from spawn to x, or from x to spawn?

Spawn to x, definately. New players tend to find themselves back at spawn when they die, and more established players tend to use the nether systems to get back to spawn (both of these uncited statements brought to you by CrisPKale, master of the crunchy vegetables :))

Sure! Let's see where bonaparte decides to cut her section off, and you can be right next door. Everyone being on one axis will make it easier when I build your personal rail.

Sounds good. Now just need to hook everything into grand central and make sure the dispenser works as intended.

Now here's one thing. I know carts will pile up at various stations, so what I want to do is launch them all back at spawn (with me in a rear cart) and let them all return to the main dispenser. This means there needs to be a mechanism that automatically pushes carts in (instead of the current pressure plate trapdoor method) but has a delay to let people leave (or people might get stuck in the dispenser, which would be far from good).

I know everyone likes fancy redstone but wouldnt it be easier to just pick up the cart and go back to spawn and put it down there? I havnt seen to may carts just sitting on the track anyway i personally just break the cart when i get ot where im going and either put it in a chest/dispencer near by or hold on to it untill i need to go back.

So thanks to an idea of Rirez's, the sugar farm is now afk friendly (ish). It runs on underground redstone so that it pulses once every while. I'll probably make the while longer in the near future, but I only had so many repeaters. Also, try not to go underground around that area immediately under any structures or to the left behind the center. It's all covered in redstone wiring that I've killed by flooding it multiple times.

Because that means the workers also have to put forth the resources to lay the rail to use those minecarts. And, I'm not diversified in railway bonds, so it's not an issue for me. Plus, if they get too uppidity, we can always revoke their means of minecart.

Rirez mentioned he wanted to make a secret entrance with pistons, but he couldn't do it and stopped, I told him I would help him if i knew how redstone dust worked, then I remembered watching a post on reddit about a secret entrance using a minecart and a piston. here is the layout if anyone is interested. you can also go to rirez's sugar cane fields and test it out.

in short, when you walk up to this 1x1x2 space, you push a minecart behind the wall up to a powered rail that sends to the next rail with a pressure plate, that sends a signal along 3 redstone dust to a redstone torch that signals the piston to retract. you are standing on the block attached to the piston and fall 2 meters down to a secret room.

Get off the tracks, a FREIGHT TRAIN is coming!!!

Spoiler:
Here's the launcher, a basic Minecart Pez loaded with storage carts:
Image

And here we see the lever which starts the clock to let the carts go one at a time and the latch which keeps the launch rails powered. To reset for loading just flip the switch to stop the clock and click the button to turn off the launch rail. The lead car must be occupied or the train will unload and stop once it gets far enough from any players.
Image

Next up is the delay station to slow down the lead car so trailing cars won't unload.

The detector rail sets the latch when the lead cart arrives to prepare for the first freight cart. The lead cart is stopped to wait for the freight to catch up. The and gate is activated once the first freight car arrives, this activates the latch reset to prepare for the next train, and triggers a pulse lengthener to keep the launch rail powered until the entire train passes.

Here's the launcher where the lead car stops and the delay line to allow the rest of the train to follow along. This is enough delay for at least twelve storage minecarts. I haven't tested it with any more.

So you can push minecarts with a wall in between you and them? Neat! Up until now the best auto-reseting invisible secret door I saw used a stream of water released when the door was opened to wash away the redstone torch used to open it.

Anyway, here is my minecart railway testing world in case my explaination was incomplete or difficult to follow.

Just get in the cart and flip the lever for a short demonstration ride.

Have Fun!
