I never said I agreed with them doing it. I really see DRM as a failed attempt anyway. But that's not the point of this thread, so I won't derail it any further than I already have.

I do like the way the game saves your creatures though.

It has it's faults, yes, but it still offers better controls, more games, way more indie games, and mods. Once that Stardock thing (I think it's called Impulse, or something like that) comes it will be the best in all ways other than constantly having to buy new hardware.

This is by far the best one I've made so far. You should be able to load this file into your game, so you too can revel in his Awesome.

depends on what your looking for.... for online content... it wins ..
for FPS.. it wins...
for playability... it wins (cos you can customise what buttons do what to your needs... not select 1 from a predetermined configuration.)

its better for games like civ and age of empires... sins of a solar empire etc..

if you've got a good enough pc .. its rpgs are generaly better... sure with the console your guaranteed the best specs... but with my PC i dont care.. cos i can get close to if not the best specs on the games i play.

Modability... i have Bridge Commander... made sooo much better by the fact that not only does it have star trek ships... moded star trek ships... tonnes of other shit too... but it has STARGATE ships too :O :O amazing (incase you didn't know by the name and the avatar lol .. im a stargate fan)

i know some Xbox games can be moded... but not to the same extent
(like in Battlefront 2 i know you can mod it if your good at Hex-editing... but not all ppl are... all pc gamers do know how to unzip a file into a certain directory or runa certain executable)

the games i like (FPS MMORPG RPG etc.) are all on PC..
and all my action/adventure games are on ps2 and wii...

games is very oppinionated... one mans trash is another mans treasure... and all that kinda stuff...

i only stated pros to pc gaming... so im obv bias... but hey :)

If Spore stops recognising your critters:

Remove everything from the My Creatures folder. Put on the desktop or something.

Open Spore CC again. Note that Your Creations is empty. This stage is essential, it won't work otherwise.

Exit Spore. Put everything back from the desktop into My Creatures.

Open Spore. Your creatures should be back - they'll be listed under "Everything" instead of "Your Creations", but they're there.

I hope the complexity meter is either a hundred times more lenient or gone completely in the full game. Once you give anything more than the standard number of limbs or mouths its pretty much impossible to properly finish it.

Apparently, v11 now hides itself from Suckyourom automatically. </derail>

I agree that you should be able to have longer spines than whatever the limit is. Hopefully that will be fixed in the full game.

Guys, guys, guys!

So, my two big problems with the CC were creatures being too cartoony, and lame as hell walking animations.

But I just watched this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IquqyWC30dA

Holy shit that is awesome. Even if I have to make all my creatures avian/raptor types to get them looking and walking cool, I am satisfied.

You know what that reminds me of? A Fucker. Yeah, there was this collaborative world-building project called Snaiad I think, and one creature was called a Fucker, so named because it had a razor-sharp projection coming from between it's legs that it used to fuck it's prey to death.

They were badass.

Hm, if it really is coming out on Wii then I have some decision making to do... Get it soon on my (not exactly good for games) computer or suffer for however long until I can play on Wii... Argh. I hate practicality. I'll probably end up basing my decision on exactly how the online content works on the Wii... if it's the exact same, then I'll probably go that route.

On another note, I thought the fuck slug was adorable, while the others just disturbed me a little. Oh, the hilarious possibilities. I'm so excited to start playing.

well as far as i know the only online content in the pc version is importing other peoples monster/vehicle/building/ufo etc. creations to make sure every new creature encounter is exactly that, new.... it woud 'up' replay value alot ....

It would be unusual for Wii not to have the same online content.... because the online content is already very simple, though it may make a large dent on the space on your wii... so spending a couple of quid on an SD card may be advisable (or just use one from an old camera, i personaly use my phones 1GB microSD with an adaptor lol... all my saves etc. with me at all times :) .)

EDIT:

actually... it may not need space at all... if you have the wii conected to the internet at the time of playing it may just use the content straight from the internet.

I don't get why there's more than one arm. They're all exactly the same, just with different widths that you could change yourself anyway. There are only a couple of really different legs as well, for that matter.

Have you played the Creature Creator? At least in the demo version you can only manipuate the position of the joints of a limb, not the scaling of the sections. It kinda sucks, but the full version looks like it has enough to satisfy most variations you could want.

Yeah, but it's not even like those arms are particularly different in lengths. They look practically the same. http://buttonbasher.files.wordpress.com ... /limbs.jpg

You could make most of those limbs out of any other one of those limbs with the scroll wheel.

That's what I'm saying - you can manipulate the positions (including lengths) of the joints. Pull the knee further away from the body and you've got a longer leg. I agree that they should be scalable, but you have to remember about stats: the higher evolutionary legs have better statisitics, speed and so on, depsite looking very, very similar.

Not according to this, they don't.. assuming I'm reading that right, at least.

Actually, no you can't make the limbs with the scroll wheel. You'd have to see them in action to see. Some of them have bigger joints, some of them have suggestions of bicep muscles midway through the limb. Some limbs use rigid joints, some make the limb look like one giant limp noodle. They all act differently in some way.

Yea, it is too bad that the release date was pushed back - but they (EA) have release a trial version of their creature creator which is pretty cool.

http://www.spore.com/trial

You only get ~1/10th of the available parts to create your creature with, but its worth taking a look (even if you only play around with it for about 30 minutes like I did)

it would be good of them to release a demo wii channel version for a limited time ..

just for us to see how it works on the wii and to aid our choice of Wii or PC .

I d/loaded the trial version but it doesn't work for me... The installation went fine but when I try to run it it displays the "this is demo don't make us sue you" message at the start and then exits to desktop. Does anyone have any idea why that is?

EA is annoying me. Remember when Will Wright says he wanted to make the game playable to as many people as possible, and I am not convinced he tried all that hard. The "unofficial" specs said that it should run on any computer that runs Spore. However, I downloaded the free demo, and it warned me I didn't meet specs. So I looked up the specs, and I meet everything but the graphic card requirement. Apparently, the GMA 950 in low end iMacs from just a year and a half ago isn't supported - but the same card should work fine for Windows. So I install it anyway, figuring it should probably work. The editor boots up, displays a galaxy (with no control options), then crashes. Why can't they bother to support a computer only a year and a half old? I figured EA would actually hold their promise. I just hope when Spore comes out it will work on my computer.

Edit: Sorry, I was mad when I first posted this message. Edited to be a bit more sane.
