Nintendo's E3: Kid Icarus, DKC, Zelda, Paper Mario, MGS, KH

Postby Game_boy » Tue Jun 15, 2010 8:05 pm UTC

Nintendo have just had their E3 conference, and announced tons of new games for the Wii and showed off their new console, the 3DS, which provides (IMO Gamecube-like) graphics on the handheld and true 3D graphics without the need for glasses.

The 3DS has massive first and third party support.

Wii games:

Donkey Kong Country Returns - 2010
Kirby's Epic Yarn - 2010
Zelda Skyward Sword - 2011, with 1:1 sword control
Mario Sports Mix - 2011 (Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball ...)

DS games:

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn

3DS games (selected, more like 50 games have been listed):

Kid Icarus Uprising
Paper Mario
Mario Kart
Star Fox 64 3D
Nintendogs+cats
Pilotwings
Metal Gear Solid
Kingdom Hearts
Final Fantasy
Dragon Quest
Resident Evil
Ridge Racer

3DS game list: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/64310

I'm really excited, especially about Kid Icarus and Paper Mario.

Nintendo should use the 3D capabilities to make a Mario Galaxy for the 3DS.

Finally, they're justifying my purchase of a Wii! After all these years!

I'm glad that there is decent 3rd party support for the 3DS.

Zelda looks like they couldn't decide on their favorite style (cell-shaded or TP-realism), so they mixed it up a bit

Nintendo seems to have had a great showing this year. Finally a E3 press conference that doesn't focus on the casual aspect. New Zelda is cool, always is. Not really excited. Kirby looks *amazing*. And the return of Donkey Kong Country? FUCK YES! Holy Hell I can't wait to get my hands on that. Also, is 'Epic' the new 'Super'? That was kinda strange seeing 2 games with epic in the title back to back. Impressions from the 3DS seem to have been extremely positive so far. I'm quite hopeful for that system.

(Is there a reason we can't have one E3 thread for them all? Seems pointless to split them.) Microsoft seems to be putting alot into Kinect. I haven't seen their press conference, but I still haven't heard much other than Kinect out of them. Also, new slim, but that I only care about as it caused the other models to drop in price, and I still need to pick one of them up. Sony emphasis on 3D is a little strange. I don't think that many people are going to be able to take advantage of it... The Sorcery game looks pretty spiffy. Sony also gets massive points for having Kevin Butler come out, and for having Gabe Newell walk out on stage (which was very  )

Obviously they're going to announce the Epic Nintendo Entertainment System next year.

Oh man actually that would be badass. They should do that.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'll play Epic Smash Bros on my Epic NES that came bundled with Epic (Super?) Mario Universe.

Though a little exaggerated in my case, this is true. There hasn't been much out, and now, they are gonna release title after title. And ALL of them look promising. Except for Just Dance 2 and Wii Party, I want every single game they showed.

I love Zelda's new graphical style. Miyamoto mentioned it was inspired by impressionism and the 19th century French artist Paul Cezanne. Plus, it looks like the game is gonna be tougher in terms of combat. With WiiMotion+, they've implemented almost pure 1:1 motion. You now have to swing in certain directions hit the enemy, or they'll block your attack or it will do no damage. They almost broke my heart when they announced it was coming in 2011, but then they started announcing the games that were coming out this year, and I w

Out of all the previously unannounced titles, Donkey Kong Country Returns is by far my favorite. When the music started playing at the conference, my heart skipped a beat. I just knew what I had heard. I will definitely be getting that game as soon as I can.

But my most anticipated thing period from E3 has to be 3DS. I knew it would be good, but I don't think anyone was prepared for just how good it really is. It is a fucking beast. And that was only from seeing the Kid Icarus trailer. Then they announced many of the forthcoming 3rd party titles/franchises. The great thing was they didn't even announce all the titles at the conference. The titles were put in a press kit, and that is what sold it to everyone. It also included screenshots of many games, and it proves that 3DS can output games at near Wii quality level. And then, there was one more title to announce that wasn't in the press kit.

OCARINA OF TIME IS BEING REMADE ON 3DS!!! I don't mean ported. They are fully updating it, graphics and all.

Just announce a release date Nintendo so I know when to show up at the store.

Definitely interested in the 3DS, but we'll how interested once they announce a price. $200 is the max I'm willing to pay, and even that's a stretch since I got a DSi not too long ago (but before the XL came out). I'll also have to see it in person. Kirby looks cool, as does Epic Mickey. DKCR I couldn't care less about since I can't stand the SNES games. Goldeneye will probably be about as good as any other Goldeneye game not made by Rare. I'll play pretty much any Zelda game that comes out.

Zelda: Wonderful, I'm always up for more Zelda.

DK: Meh, I thought this was a vastly overrated platformer back in the day. It's graphics were spectacular for the time, but that's it.

Goldeneye: The original is a classic because nobody made a multiplayer shooter that really worked on a console before. None of the Bond games made since have been worth bothering with, don't see why this one should be.

I will be getting a 3DS on launch day. There is no question about it.
(I reckon one of the reasons they put Pit in Brawl is so more people now know what the hell Kid Icarus is.)

Kirby looks amazing.
Epic Mickey looks amazing. As soon as I saw the Steamboat Willie part I was sold (did anyone else play... I think it was called Mickey Mania... on the SNES? Steamboat Willie was the first level and it was awesome.)
Donkey Kong Country Returns looks amazing.
I'm not sure how long I've actually been waiting for Golden Sun 3 but it is Too Long.
And I always love Zelda.

Hahaha.

I feel that your post is underappreciated.

3DS looks awesome, as does everything else.

Yarn Kirby is awesome because as an idea, it sounds really stupid, but then you see it in action and it's awesome. I definitely want it.

3DS looks amazing game line up great remakes of some of the greatest N64 games ever the only problem we keep hearing how amazing the 3D effects are but we who watch online and at home on tv can't see it for our selfs.

I'm not bashing it i'm sure it works great like everybody says but i still need to see to find out how great it really looks they need to run a promotion with people going around America and elsewhere to preview the system so everyone can see if it really is as good as every one says.

Nintendo usually either does do that sort of thing themselves or they make sure to ship demo units to pretty much any store that sells video games.

That was the point of the end of their conference; they showed off at least the prototype, with actual 3-D effect, for no other purpose than to prove that it really was as good as it looks.

Which is good, because I think we all remember what happened last time Nintendo released a 3D portable gaming system (as do the 20 physios who had to treat the 20 people who bought one).

You know what would be awesome? F-Zero for 3DS. Seriously. Think about it.
You get:
1) Great sense of speed IN THREE DEE
2) incredibly good gameplay and track design (it's the goddamn F-Zero)
3) Captain Falcon's chest rendered in 3D.

F-Zero for anything is awesome.

Also, I express surprise that there is no Pilotwings in the works for Wii. It would seem like a perfect fit, since it would appeal to both casuals and core gamers, and should work pretty well with the motion controls (using the Wiimote as a hangglider bar, anyone?)

@EmptySet

Wii Sports Resort's Aeroplane is the closest. Agreed though.

F-Zero never got decent enough sales on the GC (450k) to justify sequels.

The journalists who got hands-on with it said it gave good control.

Anything is better than fake-analogue using the touch screen though. Like Super Mario 64 DS had.
