Anyone know how to make Fraps not use up a Gigabyte of space for every four mintues of video it records? Because that would be super handy.

Lower FPS and resolution?

I took it down to 15 fps. Gonna have to try playing with the resolution next. Just fiddled with it for fifteen minutes before work this morning. Also, so far my casting skills are atrocious. Working on that one too.

Im hoping that blizzard puts up the 1.1.1 patch by 730, but I really doubt it, considering they dont have it up for Europe yet. I am currently looking for a mirror site.

I think the last patch went up like midday or afternoon on Wednesday after the merican patch went up on Tuesday.

I'm happy to help out casting if we can figure out a way to livestream things - would be great for the finals although we'd have to ourselves up with NA accounts to observe? I've been trying to set up the tech side of things but I have a ton of my own coding to do as a conference deadline is coming up.

Gimme a shout if you sort something out and need a co-caster anyways :)

PS - and if anyone can advise me on a good mic for this sort of stuff that would be ace. Mine just died through years of use as a raidleader :p Wouldn't mind picking up a slightly higher quality one at all.

Livecasts are cool, but I bet people could cast just as well doing a dry run on a replay and frapsing it. A lot more people could watch it on youtube that way. I can't imagine more than a dozen or so being available to watch it if it was live.

I assume if it was livecasted it would be archived and uploaded to youtube/blip anyway.

For live casting somethign like Ustream would probably work, but I mess up too many times for live casting. In other news I am still struggling to get FRAPS to work correctly and not simply mess everything up, so no ETA yet on when casting stuffs will happen. As for mic, I quite like the microphone on the Fatal1ty headset for gaming, but for proper stuff I use Mipu's Super Professional Microphone.

I could try casting a game or two for the comedy value, if you find commentary along the lines of "He's built a second refinery now, he's probably going for... wait, what requires a lot of gas again? {sounds of flicking through paper} [...] Ooh, looks like the Protoss player is going for a Pylon first, I like that move. [...] So now he's lifted off all his buildings and flying them into the corners of the map... I guess that's a good idea?" to be humorous...

Code: Select all

enum ಠ_ಠ {°□°╰=1, °Д°╰, ಠ益ಠ╰};
void ┻━┻︵╰(ಠ_ಠ ⚠) {exit((int)⚠);}

My casting currently involves such genius phrases as "And here's where I get supply blocked again, because I'm useless at this game" and "That's the game easily taken by me because my opponent stuck at 21 food while I expanded to 100 food. If he'd had any ability whatsoever, I'd be dead right now."

I like the sequel better, it goes even further off the rails...

Works for me, and even better news, I figured out my net problems so no random DCs!

See you then.

Aw, shucks.

In a completely unrelated to the tournament question, how many probes does it take to maintain chronoboosted zealots from a proxy 2 gate? :)

Just calculated it out - takes 10-11 probes, depending on how strict your macro is, and assuming you are going all in and cutting any probes from then on.

Another interesting calculation: On 2 saturated bases and 1 gas-only base, its possible to produce zealots/stalkers out of 3 warpgates and carriers out of 5 stargates without running out of money.

Let's see:
2 bases = 1600 minerals/minute

5 carriers = 2250 (with interceptors) minerals/150s = 900 minerals/minute
1 stalker = 125 minerals/37s=203 minerals/minute
2 zealots = 200 minerals/33s=364 minerals/minute
Total = 1467 minerals/minute, so you have enough money

6 geysers = 720 gas/minute.

5 carriers = 1250 gas/150s = 500 gas/minute
1 stalker = 50 gas/37s = 81 gas/minute
Total = 581 gas/minutes, so you have enough gas too.

Odd, I did this calculation a different way and got much less spare gas... wonder which one is right... But if this one is it looks like you could actually get away with 4 gates and do sentry/stalker/zealot/zealot + 5 carriers.

Also a strange thing that theorycrafting tells us - you cant 4 gate on a single base. If you are able to support a 4 gate, it means your macro isnt perfect.

Oh, you dont need to do this by hand. Here is a handy tool (also available in terran and zerg versions): http://haploid.nl/sc2/unit_production/protoss.php
