Favorite Movie Quote?

Postby Sir_Elderberry » Fri Dec 14, 2007 11:11 pm UTC

To steal a topic from Books...

Mine's going to be the famous one from V for Vendetta...which I have memorized just for the awesomeness. (And, of course, I get to brag about it like that.)

Voila! By view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance, a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoie of verbiage doth veer most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you, and you may call me V.

"You have the spirit to fight back, but the good sense to control it. Your eyes are full of hate, Forty-One. That's good. Hate keeps a man alive; It gives him strength."
-Quintus Arrius to Judah Ben-Hur (Ben-Hur, 1959)

This movie is still the absolute peak of cinematography. :)

Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men" wrote:You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You?! You, Lieutenant Weinberg?! I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall! You need me on that wall! We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline! I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said, "Thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

I cried because Nicholson is so... great.

Oh, this is a tough one. I know so many good movie quotes. However, I think I'm going to have to be quite typical and go with this one:

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

That isn't actually Ezekiel 25:17, which actually reads (KJV):
And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.

The previous bit doesn't even sound remotely like the Pulp Fiction quote.
While I clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning,
And my heart was filled with mournng, mourning for my dear amour.
"'Tis not possible!" I uttered, "Give me back my free hardcore!"

Uh, every single line in Hot Fuzz, but particularly:

- Andy: "Ah, he's got shorts on."

- Danny: "By the power of Greyskull!"

- Doris: "Oh, I dunno. I quite like a little midnight gobble. Haha!"
Bob: "...cocks."

... I am rather easy to please when it comes to film quotes.

Agreed, but what really gives me goosebumps is the conclusion of that scene:

Montoya finally has Rugen cornered and at his mercy and is making him grovel
Montoya: Offer me anything I ask for!
Rugen: Anything you want.
Montoya runs Rugen through; Rugen falls, dying
Montoya: I want my father back, you son of a bitch.

For such a light-hearted comedy, that is an unexpected moment of powerful drama. Awesome.

From the far too under-appreciated film Heathers (censored because I don't really know the rules on profanity in the forum...): "Well f*** me gently with a chain-saw!"

Seriously, that line is so well placed and random that it makes me crack up every time I hear it... or maybe I'm just strange like that.

also, from Airplane:

"How soon can you land this plane"
"I really can't say"
"You can tell me, I'm a doctor"
"No, I mean I don't know"
"Well, can't you take a guess?"
"Not for another six hours..."
"You can't take a guess for another six hours?"

Great scene, sorry if I made a few errors, I'm trying to do it all from memory.

Another, from Death Becomes Her: "*gasp* My ass... I can see my ass! Earnest... I can see my ass!"

It's so hard to decide.

And we can do video game lines, too... Hmm... All spoilers from Xenosaga episode III, yay!

Spoiler:
Shion: Kevin, all I ever... wanted was to be with you, even if that meant that I was being used, even if I was being deceived, as long as I could be by your side, I thought it didn't matter. But, now I know, that's not true. It's wrong for me to sacrifice others for it. If I do that, if I run away into the past, all I'm doing is repeating the misery inside me.
I do love you, dearly. I'm sure we would be happy together. There's nothing that I would want more. But, I can't stand the idea of being the only one who finds happiness. If I can't share it with everyone, then there's no meaning to happiness. And I don't want to be alone anymore.

Kos-Mos: The time we'll spend apart will be an instant in the flow of universal time. I know... we'll meet again. So please don't be sad, Shion.

Shion: Jin, now I think I understand what Wilhelm wanted to do, just a little bit better. His methods may have been wrong, but now, I think I understand the logic behind his reasons. Living the same life over and over again, but living those lives without any regrets is what really matters. That's probably what the ideal vision of being human is all about. However, we humans are really not that strong. And we know that we can't live like that. We're creatures that are much more flawed, weak, and smaller than that. We hurt others, we lie to ourselves, we hate, we blame others, we regret, but, even if we are weak, and even if it is our fate to disappear entirely. I think the will to change the future is still an important one. We must try to change the things around us, little by little. Even if it is one step at a time, And even if everything is already pre-determined, it's not something for us to be sad about. No. On the contrary, the future is overflowing with hope. And we have infinite paths to choose from. Isn't that right? chaos? KOS-MOS?

Sorry, I love Xenosaga too much to not mention it, but all the good lines are really spoiler-ish.

I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning, even if I can't remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world's still there. Do I believe the world's still there? Is it still out there?... Yeah. We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I'm no different.

Here I was born, and there I died. It was only a moment for you; you took no notice.

I'm pretty sure it's "I'm your huckleberry". Either way, you stole the one i was going to use. Instead i'll use a few other Doc Holliday quotes

500? Must be a...peach of a hand. Well i suppose i'm deranged, but i guess i'll just have to call. Cover your ears, darlin'.

Ike Clanton: What is that now? Twelve hands in a row? Holliday, son of a bitch, nobody's that lucky.
Doc Holliday: Why Ike, whatever do you mean? Maybe poker's just not your game Ike. I know! Let's have a spelling contest!

Billy Clanton: Stephen Foster. "Oh, Susannah", "Camptown Races". Stephen stinking Foster.
Doc Holliday: Ah, yes. Well, this happens to be a nocturne.
Billy Clanton: A which?
Doc Holliday: You know, Frederic fucking Chopin.

But what really sticks out to me is the unbridled badassery of the following:

Wyatt Earp: All right, Clanton... you called down the thunder, well now you've got it! You see that?
[pulls open his coat, revealing a badge]
Wyatt Earp: It says United States Marshal!
Ike Clanton: [terrified, pleading] Wyatt, please, I...
Wyatt Earp: [referring to Stilwell, laying dead] Take a good look at him, Ike... 'cause that's how you're gonna end up!
[shoves Ike down roughly with his boot]
Wyatt Earp: The Cowboys are finished, you understand? I see a red sash, I kill the man wearin' it!
[lets Ike up to run for his life]
Wyatt Earp: So run, you cur... RUN! Tell all the other curs the law's comin'!
[shouts]
Wyatt Earp: You tell 'em I'M coming... and hell's coming with me, you hear?...
[louder]
Wyatt Earp: Hell's coming with me!

The 2nd and 3rd films were one film. If the creators had noticed that and simply released them as one, 2 1/2 hour long film, it would have been a lot better. The first film was the best.

Another great quotation from a favourite film of mine: Real Genius :)
Mitch Mitchel: Something strange happened to me last night.
Chris Knight: Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort-of sun god robes on top of a pryamid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?
Mitch: laughs No!
Chris: Why am I the only one who has that dream?

That movie is just an incredible series of quotes strung together.
"Yes I'm serious, and don't call me 'Shirley!'"
I also crack up every time they show the outside of the plane and the soundtrack is a B-17's propeller noise.

From the other movie about Wyatt Earp that came out at almost the same time:
Doc Holliday: What is wrong with me? What have you got? I am dying of tuberculosis. I sleep with the nastiest whore in Kansas. Everyone who knows me hates me, and every morning I wake up surprised that I have to spend another day in this piss-hole world. (To onlookers) All you can kiss my rebel dick!
IMO both of those movies were held together entirely by their respective Holliday characters.

Murder By Death. If you haven't seen it, get to the 'tubes right the hell now and download it. Really

Sidney Wang: What meaning of this, Mr. Twain?
Lionel Twain: I will tell you, Mr. Wang, if YOU can tell ME why a man who possesses one of the most brilliant minds of this century can't say his *prepositions* or *articles!* "What IS THE," Mr. Wang! "What IS THE meaning of this?"
Sidney Wang: That what I said! "What meaning of this?"
The entire movie is at least that brilliant. It's awesome.
Inspector Milo Perrier: Everything here has been rented for tonight. The butler, the cook, the food, the dining room chairs, everything!
Jessica Marbles: You mean...
Inspector Milo Perrier: Yes. This entire murder has been... catered.
What did you bring the book I didn't want read out of up for?
"MAN YOUR WAY TO ANAL!" (An actual quote from another forum. Only four small errors from making sense.)

Jules: Say what again. Say what again, motherfucker, say what one more Goddamn time!
Brett: He's b-b-black...
Jules: Go on.
Brett: He's bald...
Jules: Does he look like a bitch?
Brett: What?
[Jules shoots Brett in shoulder]
Jules: DOES HE LOOK LIKE A BITCH?
Brett: No!
Jules: Then why you try to fuck him like a bitch, Brett?
Brett: I didn't.
Jules: Yes you did. Yes you did, Brett. You tried to fuck him. And Marcellus Wallace don't like to be fucked by anybody, except Mrs. Wallace.

I think we can scratch off every quote in Pulp Fiction, since they are all so awesome.

Esteban: Do you know why I help you?
Beatrix: No.
Esteban: Because he would want me to.
Beatrix: Now, that I don't believe.
Esteban: Ahh. How else is he ever going to see you again?

Esteban from Kill Bill 2 is probably my favorite character out of any movie. The way he talked, his accent, his body language, the way he smoked the cigarette...it was fascinating.

Esteban: Bill shot you in the head, no?
Beatrix: Yes.
Esteban: Hmm...I would have been much nicer. I would have just cut your face.

Gabriel, from the Prophecy wrote:I'm an angel. I kill firstborns while their mamas watch. I turn cities into salt. I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls, and from now till kingdom come, the only thing you can count on in your existence is never understanding why.

This is made all the more awesome when you take into account that it's Christopher Walken saying it.

Also:

Gabriel: In heaven, we believe in love.
Catherine: What do you love, Gabriel?
Gabriel: Cracking your skull.

Abby: Sweetheart...I was quite attached to my specimens, but now they're out there, doing God knows what.

Son: What if it's Dad?
Dakota: especially if its your dad.

Kim: I'll do my laundry whenever the fuck I want to do my laundry.
Abernathy: But still, does it have to be a gun? You could...carry pepper spray.
Kim:Pepper spray? Nigger please! Someone tries to rape me, I don't want to give him a skin rash. I want to shut that nigger down.
Zoe: You could carry a knife.
Kim: You know what happens to motherfuckers carry knives? They get shot.
