Red Vs Blue; Rooster Teeth and other such parody fun

Postby ACU-LP » Wed Sep 03, 2008 12:43 pm UTC

I couldn't figure out exactly where to put this, and I also couldnt find a dedicated thread.

I am a major Supreme Commander fan, and they did a three part series on it called supreme surrender; hilarious. Mostly you do not need to know anything about the game, but a little knowledge may help.

Then I saw some of the Red v Blue series (just finished episode ten with my brother). Again, hilarious. Despite the fact I know little about halo.
I am now completely up to date; to the latest reconstruction episode. I must say that red vs blue is truly epic. *cabose*/*caboose*

Anybody else heard of this crew? What do you think of them?

Any other crews with stuff worth watching? Especially SupCom parodies.

While Red Vs. Blue does do a lot of parody stuff, I wouldn't really say its parody in and of itself.

Anyways, there's lots of cool machinima stuff out there... are you looking for anything quality, or just comedy stuff? Or simply video game parody stuff?

Monty Oum does interesting stuff with existing game characters, mostly fights :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL-mR79GErU
but that's technically not machinima as it doesnt use a game engine to tell the story.
The Rooster Teeth people do other series as well, not just RvB. Off the top of my head, I know they have a Sims one that was pretty popular.

Speaking of sims,
http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/6858
is pretty hilarious. (restroom etiquette, built in the sims)

http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/6928 won a whole bunch of awards for being awesome. I haven't watched it though, cause I havent been able to find a full copy my comp can view.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRCrIYAh ... FE&index=0 is a randomly chosen video by oxhorn, who does some pretty funny WoW stuff.

http://www.atom.com/funny_videos/deviation/ is pretty good, based off counterstrike.

Unfortunately, I've never heard of supreme commander and don't know of anything based off it. If Rooster Teeth made it though, I'll try and check it out.

What else would you do with cheese!?

And yes, Red vs Blue is awesome.
I watched the first err, 70 I think, in one sitting.
I think they kind of fell of though, after the time portal story line.
But that might just be me.

They do have a Sims 2 machinima series, and they also did a mini-series for MTV to promote the game F.E.A.R.
It was hilarious.

RvB was a lot of fun. I've heard of the game Supreme Commander, but I didn't think a machinima would be practical. This is one of those times when it's awesome to be shown otherwise.

http://www.thisspartanlife.com/ is a talk show that uses Halo instead of a traditional set. It's quite interesting, with well-choreographed dance routines and everything. I've only checked out the first few episodes, but they've been cool.

I've actually thought about doing my own machinima, but I don't have any video production skills or software. Maybe later, then.

The whole of Red vs Blue is fantastic, but this latest series RvB: Reconstruction is the best thing they've ever done. They took the humour of RvB and are working it into a seriously intriguing plot.

Yeah, I'm enjoying Reconstruction, too.

If you like RvB, also look up The Codex. Not really a parody of anything, but a good piece of machinima. It starts out a little weak, but picks up quickly.

*Bump*

I have finished 100.2, recovery, AND all current episodes of reconstruction. I've even seen most of the PSA's. I've even seen griftball.

Reconstruction is truly epic. I cant even begin to choose a quote.

It seems that griftball has become quite a sport; they have events for it now...!!!!

how awesome

Red Vs. Blue is undoubtedly the best machinima out there to me. I've tried watching other machinimas that have been recommended to me, but none have the voice acting or productions values to stand up to RVB. They really know how to make something funny.

"I knew she was a girl! She didn't like me. Girls never like me,"
"Caboose, I don't think anyone likes you"
"I like me"
So it goes.

So many PSA's and mini-series....The fun shall never end! :D
(I just found some I had not known about. And in certain maps there are dedications to them; Halo 2; turf multiplayer map, one vending machine has a rooster, another has teeth.)

Bungie even brought in some of the voice actors to record a few special lines for Halo 3, including a hilarious Easter egg in the second level. The game is also rife with references.
So it goes.

In halo 2, on delta halo, one of the soldiers talks about sending a postcard to sarge about kicking alien ass; and the in game sarge replies angrily. However the in game sarge sounds exactly like sarge from rvb

I just posted this in the R/FT thread, but it deserves it here too;
I cant get a rooster teeth quote out of my head; it is from chapter 5 of reconstruction;
*Church steps on to the grav-lift*
Church: Come on, how ba d could it B-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
*flys through the air and bounces many times across the ground before slamming into of a puma*
Church: That was fucking bullshit!
Wash: I said come quietly, what part of quietly do you not understand?
Church: WHAT PART?! HOW ABOUT THE PART WHERE I GOT THROWN EIGHTY FEET IN THE FUCKING AIR, BY THE GOD DAMN THROWING THING!

Also; Wash: We have a problem
Caboose: I hope it isnt a math problem

My favorite would have to be...

"Simmons: You ever wonder why we're here?
Griff: That's one of life's great mysteries, isn't it? Why are we here? Are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a God, watching everything... I don't know, man, but it keeps me up at night."
Simmons:...
Simmons: No, I mean why are we here. In this boxed canyon? The only reason that we set up a red base here is because they have a blue base over there. And the only reason they have a blue base over there is because we have a red base here.
Griff: Yeah, that's because we're fighting each other.
Simmons: No, no, but I mean... even if we were to pull out today, and they were to come and take our base, they would have two bases in the middle of a box canyon. Whoop-dee-fucking-doo.
Simmons:...
Simmons: What was all that god stuff?
Griff: Nothing.
Simmons: You want to talk about it?
Griff: No."

That and

"Sarge: Today is a good day to die!
Griff: Wait! I think today is actually a good day to retreat. Can't we push dying to a week from Friday?
Simmons: Yeah, let's all take dying as an open action item, and come back with suggestions next meeting.
Sarge: No! It has to be today. For our ancestors!"
I can kill you with my brain.

They broke into their own base? Thats dumb.
Thats what we're doing now you jackass!
Just because we do something, doesnt make it smart.
Tell me about it.

And one of my favourites;
Maybe it is a key, but when you stab someone with it, it unlocks their death.
Goddamn man, I would love to live in your world for about ten minutes
Yeah...I have a lot of fun
Hehe, yeah. I dont think I'd get much done, but I dont really think I'd care that much.

And you have to love the part where Grif is getting crap thrown at him by the meta.
Oh come on! You could have poked an eye out with that thing!

And the precursor to that;
Oh my god, that guy got fucked up!
Oh come on!
Aww, he lived?! Thats bullshit!

I'm like a fucking jedi with this thing!

Everytime this thread needs a bump, I'll add another quote.

Why do people find Caboose so funny? I realise he has the most obvious comedy lines, but really I prefer the Red Team, specifically Sarge.

Also, the latest episode of Reconstruction just completely blew my mind.

Just his view of the world. And the epic stupidity.

Sarge is pretty funny though. I like grif too.
However Caboose is still my favourite, then its got to be church; partially because of his lines / character, partially because of his bad aim, and partially because of what was revealed in chapter 16.

I JUST REALISED THAT ONLINE IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE DVD (online buying is not something I can do, as I lack a credit card or any other type of electronic payment method), BUT THAT YOU CAN ALSO GET IT IN GAMESTOP, WHICH IS EB GAMES HERE IN AUSTRALIA.
I AM GOING THERE ASAP!!!!
Even if they dont have it tomorrow, they MUST be able to order it.
ZOMG!

Epic new episode.
All I need say is that there are a whole bunch of new questions, and Bow Chika Bow Wow! (yeah...thats right....he's back)

Spoiler:
Wash: A spirit?
Church: Yeah. Thats right. Boo motherfucker.
Spoilered for the quote may give away certain storyline parts / will only be gotten by those who are up to date.

Fav lines: (of those I can remember)

"My name is Michael J. Caboose and I hate babies."
"Your toast has been burnt and no amount of scraping will remove the black parts."

I agree with Jesse btw, Caboose is overrated, even though I just quoted him. Sarge ftw.

"What about his feet?"
"Did you want feet?"
"Yeah we wanted feet!"
"Feet are optional!"
"What's at the end of his legs?"
"Legs are optional."
"Aaw man, I knew they'd try to scam us."
"Options or optional."

My current favourite has changed to Church. I love his attitude, and his incapability to hit things.
And there have been sooooo many quotes for him in reconstruction.

Also, I have just watched 'PANICS'. Loved it. Make sure you watch the outtakes reel. Only five episodes all up (including outtakes), but very quotable nonetheless.

Thought this thread deserved a bump; Reconstruction is finished.
Now that was a finale to be reckoned with; it left some questions unsanswered, gave us new questions, answered some questions and gave hints to the answer of others. Wow....I am amazed. This machinima has truly grown since its conception, and has set the par high for anyone who wishes to contend.
Bravo Rooster Teeth. Bravo.

I'm presuming something to do with
Spoiler:
Tex: I think that the 'girl' that director church talked about was also 'revived' in the form of an AI; it would explain a lot.
Caboose: What exactly he is doing with epsilon.
Tucker: he found something under the sand.
Donut: He hasnt come back yet, so he must be doing something.
Sis: She was already mentioned, but she's bound to come back full time.
Alien stuff: a further explanation of exactly why they wanted the alien at the end of season five (non reconstruction).
I think that about covers it.

That was great. I just sat down and watched all 19 chapters back-to-back; lots of nice foreshadowing.

I did see the final twist coming, but that didn't make it less awesome.

Yes. I'd seen the first 18 chapters of this series, too, but it was still cool to watch from beginning to end.

Alas, watching it all the way from season one would require Wyoming's time thingy.

Its probably about ten hours worth of stuff.
And then if you include some of their other series, an additional hour/2 hours.

Not a character I really liked. I'm kind of glad to only see her in one of the episodes.

My guess is that he's trying to bring back Church using his [Church's] memories or something.

I don't think Caboose is doing anything specific, beyond looking for a 'play' button. But yeah, it's entirely possible that he'll accidentally end up getting all of Church's memories or something. Perhaps he'll have a virtual Church running in his head.

As for Donut and Sis: not my favourite characters. Donut hasn't been an interesting or funny character since the first couple of seasons, and Sis never was.

Spoiler your goddamn text peoples; for those who havnt yet seen the series. Sorry, had to be said.
Indeed, Sis and donut werent my favourite characters, but they were still fun at times.
Also,
Spoiler:
Something tells me that neither the Meta or Church are gone from the emp (thats right, its a motherfucking EMP, not E.M.P. hehe). Or at least for some reason, Church was protected.
Also, what Caboose is doing could be something to do with Tex; he was back at Valhalla

The EMP won't have affected Church. He's a ghost, not an AI. ;)
